Madam Yu was chatting with Madam Wen, Madam Xing, and Madam Yang, while Yun-jie and Wan-ying were talking to Miss Wen.
While listening to her older sisters chat, Xuan'er stretched out her chubby little hands and stood on tiptoe to try to pick a February brocade flower.
Miss Wen saw this scene, but instead of pretending not to see it, she squatted down and asked Sister Xuan with a smile.
"Do you like this flower?"
Xuan-jie nodded: "Sister Wen, can you pick one for me?"
Miss Wen said, "I also have a pot of February Brocade at home. Would you mind if I gave it to you later?"
“These are flowers from the palace. It would be inappropriate for us to take them without permission.”
Yun'er's face immediately turned bright red, and she felt extremely embarrassed. She pulled Xuan'er aside and instructed her:
"Thank you so much for reminding me, Sister Wen. You mustn't pick any more flowers."
If people were to accuse their Miss Yang of being ill-mannered, their reputation would be ruined.
Seven-year-old Xuan tilted her head, blinked her big eyes, and looked a little hurt.
"Can't I pick them?"
Su Wanwan appeared and smiled:
"If you like it, Sister Xuan, how about I give you this pot of February Brocade?"
Xuan'er rushed over happily: "Sister Wan!"
Su Wanwan smiled and touched her little face, then said to Miss Wen, who was bowing to her with a restrained expression:
"Miss Wen is such a kind-hearted and gentle girl."
Miss Wen was just a young girl who had just come of age, and she was so excited to receive praise from the Empress that her face turned bright red.
"Your Majesty flatters me; I am unworthy of such praise."
Su Wanwan nodded and exchanged pleasantries with Madam Yu and the others who came over.
