His moist eyes held a hint of inquiry.
"You believe me?"
Lu Xingjian ignored the question and met her gaze calmly.
When did they contact you? Why didn't you tell me?
Su Wanwan felt a lump in her throat, and her eyes immediately reddened. She lowered her head to hide it, but tears rolled into the porridge bowl.
“When I went back to the Su family before.”
Who would have thought that it would almost be the last time they saw each other?
Lu Xingjian paused for a moment, then gently patted her back.
They've somehow managed to bring up the Su family again.
He remembered that he was busy with the imperial examination that day.
Later, the two quarreled because she agreed to make Yanruo a concubine.
He didn't know why, but he felt very depressed.
Wang's words echoed in his ears:
"She didn't really trust you either."
Su Wanwan didn't say much, she just quietly looked at the bowl of porridge mixed with tears.
I have absolutely no appetite.
She was restless and kept waiting to see the Su family.
Lu Xingjian looked at her, a hint of worry flashing in his eyes, and changed the subject.
"Ziyu was seriously injured yesterday while saving you and is still recuperating in the front yard."
Su Wanwan was startled, but when she looked up, she met Lu Xingjian's eyes.
She fainted at the time and was unaware of what had happened.
Her heart pounded, and the words that were about to come out were: "Then shall I go and see...?"
Lu Xingjian stared at her face. "Do you want to see the debt of gratitude you owe me for saving your life?"
Su Wanwan glanced at him and then spoke her mind.
"I should go see it out of courtesy."
"But if you're unhappy, I won't go. Please thank him for me."
Lu Xingjian has always been against her having contact with Gu Ziyu.
She decided not to provoke him.
Moreover, the emperor's gratitude should be quite valuable.
Lu Xingjian looked at her without saying anything.
There was a hint of sadness in his eyes.
Su Wanwan felt that there was absolutely nothing wrong with what she said.
He seemed a little unhappy.
What's the reason for my dissatisfaction?
She was preoccupied with the Su family and had no time to care about his feelings.
Lu Xingjian ate his breakfast slowly.
After a while, seeing her expression become dazed again, he simply said:
You'd better not see him again.
"He's disgusting. He even spied on us when we were being intimate last time."
Su Wanwan was pulled back to her senses by his words, and felt a little embarrassed:
"He probably bumped into it unintentionally. But then again, the responsibility still lies with you."
People often come to the outer courtyard.
He insisted on being intimate regardless of the consequences, refusing to even close the window, and then blamed others for peeping.
She shouldn't have gone to the other hospital to be with him.
Lu Xingjian scoffed coldly: "He's the one who's shameless."
Su Wanwan was unhappy to hear this, but after holding back for a while, she still said:
"If you say he saved me, why say these things?"
They showed not a shred of gratitude.
Lu Xingjian paused in his chopsticks, his brow furrowing slightly.
"He just can't stand to see us doing well, and now he won't let us say anything?"
These words gave Su Wanwan a headache, and a surge of anger rushed to her head.
"I think he shouldn't have saved me; instead, he offended you."
"Is it because I didn't die that I'm preventing you from marrying someone new?"
These words were quite offensive, but he didn't get angry.
He ladled another bowl of porridge and placed it in front of her, saying casually, "Eat."
Su Wanwan suppressed her anger and gulped down the porridge.
I don't know what it tastes like.
This argument was just a distraction, and they temporarily stopped worrying about the Su family.
Seeing that she had finally eaten something, Lu Xingjian felt a little relieved.
It's no wonder he was called a villain.
The people from the Su family were stepmother Yang, cousin Su Wanying, and younger brother Su Chengsi, all of whom were injured.
Su Wanwan glanced behind them a few times and found no one else. Her heart was throbbing with pain, and she felt like she couldn't hold on any longer.
The voice trembled:
"Where is Father? Where is Yan-ge?"
Yan Ge'er was the childhood name of the younger half-brother.
Su Wanying still had scratches on her face, and tears rolled down her cheeks.
Su Chengsi's forehead was bruised and swollen, and he wiped away his tears.
Yang forced a smile, but her eyes were red-rimmed.
"Master and Yan'er were hit by the falling roof beam. Yan'er died on the spot, and Master's leg was broken..."
Su Wanwan was struck dumb.
As for what Yang later said about escaping by hiding in an underground passage, she didn't listen to a word of it.
"Impossible, impossible..."
She murmured, completely flustered and disoriented, and stood up to walk outside.
Su Wanying rushed to pull her away, but couldn't, and finally stopped herself from speaking.
This terrified a group of palace servants.
They didn't dare stop Su Wanwan and quickly went to invite Lu Xingjian.
Lu Xingjian stopped Su Wanwan at the gate.
Where are we going?
"Don't stop me!" Su Wanwan glared at her with bloodshot eyes.
Lu Xingjian didn't indulge her. He picked her up and went into the study in the front yard.
Su Wanwan punched and kicked: "You lied to me!"
"Let go! I need to find someone! I need to find someone!"
Lu Xingjian pinned her hands behind her back, his expression serious: "Who are you looking for?"
Su Wanwan looked at his face, which was covered in tears and filled with sadness and despair, and her body went limp.
"I want Yan-ge'er."
"Can you bring him back?"
Lu Xingjian froze, his eyes wide with shock, and he cupped her body, which was as soft as mud, in his hands.
I don't know who this Yan Ge'er she's talking about is, that he's so important to her.
But he still agreed.
"good."
Something's really wrong with her.
The Su family is mostly unharmed, so why is she so heartbroken and desperate?
