The fatigue from being busy and running around these past few days has just kicked in, and I'm feeling a bit sluggish.
"real?"
He was simply terrified of being deceived by Su Wanwan.
Su Wanwan was somewhat helpless. She rewarded the imperial physician and then asked Heying to send him away.
Then she took his hand and placed it on her abdomen.
"I don't know either, that's what the imperial physician said." The blame was first shifted to the imperial physician.
"oh."
Lu Xingjian replied blankly, seemingly absent-minded, and didn't mention Maggie again.
Why doesn't it seem like there's much joy?
Su Wanwan was puzzled by his reaction.
He acted strangely when the news of Maggie's pregnancy came out.
Do you also think this isn't his child?
Su Wanwan felt a little choked up, and her expression wasn't very joyful. She calmly changed the subject.
"The matter of offering a bounty for the White Lotus sect members was something I decided on my own initiative."
Many White Lotus followers are now imprisoned, and if they make too much noise, they could easily be accused and impeached.
She needed to tell Lu Xingjian first.
Lu Xingjian's face was serious: "We need to change the carriage and lay out more soft mattresses."
Su Wanwan: ? ? ?
She paused, then said:
"I mentioned the matter of the Grand Canal Commander to the Earl of Pingjiang, but it might not be of any use. However, if he is truly capable, you might as well meet him."
She acted first and informed him later.
The selection of regional officials is no child's play, and she certainly dared not and could not make decisions on her own.
However, the canal transport system was established under the leadership of the Marquis of Pingjiang, and several Marquises of Pingjiang served in the canal transport system.
Given the family's scholarly tradition and the accumulated knowledge over generations, recommending the Earl of Pingjiang for the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Canal was not considered unusual.
Lu Xingjian: "Walk slowly on the road, we can always rest for another night."
Su Wanwan: "..."
She pursed her lips and sat down next to him. "Were you even listening to me?"
Lu Xingjian nodded casually and instructed He Ying, who had just returned, "Bring a soft cushion over."
Then he said to Su Wanwan, "Why are you in such a hurry? Slow down and be gentle, don't bump into anything."
Su Wanwan looked at him with complicated emotions.
Suppressing her excitement, He Ying brought over a soft cushion.
Your Majesty's pregnancy came at just the right time!
Whether it was the unauthorized imprisonment of Maggie or the matter of the illegitimate child, it could all be covered up.
This is the emperor's legitimate son.
It's far more legitimate than the nameless, unclaimed fetus in Maggie's belly!
Lu Xingjian took the cushion and carefully laid it on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), then helped Su Wanwan sit down again.
He noticed the soreness in Su Wanwan's eyes, and his tone softened considerably:
"I'm not blaming you, but you're now in a double life, so you need to be extra careful."
Su Wanwan looked at him for a while, then smiled slightly, "I'm not that delicate."
As long as it's not a case of being paranoid.
Lu Xingjian felt a little uncomfortable under her gaze, and his smile carried a hint of shyness.
"I was just nervous."
This was a side of Lu Xingjian that Su Wanwan had never seen before.
He has always been aloof and unhurried.
Even when he was young and innocent, or when he was weak and vulnerable on the brink of death, he never showed any shy or bashful expression.
Her feelings were complicated.
She said softly, "Maggie's pregnancy is unstable, and she's in a bad mood. You should go and see her."
Lu Xingjian lazily raised an eyebrow slightly, "I'm not a doctor."
“She’s bleeding, you should be more restrained.” Su Wanwan lowered her head and gently placed her hand on her lower abdomen.
The word "moderation" stimulated the man's somewhat numb nerves.
Lu Xingjian paused for a few moments before extending his slender fingers to lift her chin, a slight smile playing on his lips, his eyes carrying a hint of meaning and mockery.
"What does her bleeding have to do with me?"
"Is it alright?" Su Wanwan asked in a nonchalant tone.
Lu Xingjian snorted coldly.
It can't be said that they are completely unrelated, after all, he was the one who took Maggie around.
Maggie herself bears more responsibility for her restlessness and meddling.
"What could possibly be the connection?"
He sat down lazily. "I've been so busy lately, I haven't had time to spend with you. It's one thing that you don't understand me, but you keep overthinking things."
Thinking about Yan Ge'er's matter, Su Wanwan wanted to find an opportunity to ask him as soon as possible, so she sent He Ying to take Yan Ge'er downstairs and packed her things to prepare for the journey.
Lu Xingjian went out and made some arrangements. When he returned, he stopped Heying, who was packing her things.
"Let's rest today and continue tomorrow."
Su Wanwan couldn't have been happier; she happened to have many questions to ask him.
When the night was deep and quiet, the two took a bath and rested.
Su Wanwan had been unable to contain herself any longer, looking at him anxiously, hesitant to speak.
Lu Xingjian's thin lips brushed against her ear, and he lowered his voice:
"Yan-ge'er looks so much like me, how could you still try to fool me? Do you really think I'm a fool?"
Hearing the child's nickname from his mouth, Su Wanwan felt a pang of sadness and tears welled up in her eyes instantly.
"You found him?"
"Hmm." Lu Xingjian frowned slightly, paused, and gently wiped away the tears on her face with his fingertips.
"He's been settled in; it's time to settle our scores."
"How were you settled?" Su Wanwan was more concerned about the child's whereabouts and safety.
"Want to know? Answer my questions honestly first." Lu Xingjian knew how to manipulate people, and he glared at her coldly.
"Um."
Su Wanwan was extremely well-behaved at this moment, like a docile little lamb.
Like a flower with dew on its branch, shy and delicate.
Lu Xingjian pressed his nose against hers, narrowed his eyes, and scrutinized her. His voice was taut and cold, yet also tinged with anger.
