Su Wanwan looked at his face with a calm expression.
"So you were being all lovey-dovey with Maggie, taking her to the hot springs, because you were forced by the border troops?"
Lu Xingjian smiled gently, his slender fingers caressing her waist through her thin summer clothes.
"Are you jealous of something that's not even on your mind?"
"Why would I take her to the hot springs? It's just a cover. Those White Lotus Cult members are skilled at assassination. If I don't take her, am I supposed to make her a target?"
Su Wanwan felt that he was avoiding the main issue.
"Are they all just rumors? If you weren't attracted to her, would you have let these rumors fly by?"
Lu Xingjian frowned: "Otherwise what? Don't let the rumors sway you, just take good care of your pregnancy."

She quickly composed herself and even smiled.
"I was just saying that casually. If you like Maggie, then take good care of her. I won't touch her."
"You promised not to make things difficult for Xiao Bin, I hope you will keep your word."
After saying that, she turned around and prepared to go back to her bedroom.
"When did I ever like Maggie?" Lu Xingjian persisted, his jawline taut.
"On the contrary, it's you who really can't bear to part with Xiao Bin."
Su Wanwan quickly turned around, staring at him sharply.
"Xiao Bin saved my life; he was like a second father to me."
"What about Maggie? Did she save you too? Did she help you selflessly for three years?"
Lu Xingjian rubbed his temples wearily.
"Don't you trust me at all?"
"Su Wanwan, I've poured my heart out to you, can't you feel even a little bit of it?"
Su Wanwan tried her best to keep her voice calm.
"So, all you mean by 'opening your heart' is treating me like someone you can joke around with occasionally?"
“When I asked you for an official position, you refused outright. But when the Ma family asked, you agreed.”
"Is this what you call being open and honest?!"
"Lu Xingjian, I've suffered enough grievances with you. I don't need your heartfelt words anymore. I just want you to let go and grant my wish, is that alright?"
Lu Xingjian turned to look at her, his face ashen.
After a long while, his voice became hoarse.
"We are husband and wife who will share the same bed in life and the same coffin in death. I will not let go."

"I'd like to see what the Ma family intends to do."
Su Wanwan was speechless.
He always has something to say.

Lu Xingjian got up and slowly walked to her side, hugged her in his arms, and gently rubbed his chin against her hair.
