He gave Qian Ning a deep look, then bowed and said:
"Your Majesty, the Ministry of Revenue has submitted a memorial stating that in the past five years, there have been instances of grain, hay, salt for household registration, salt as punishment for farmers' embezzlement, as well as the transport of horse feed, wheat, paper money, and cloth, totaling 5.13 million taels of silver. This should be investigated together."
He knew this Qian Ning.
He was the adopted son of Qian Neng, the eunuch who guarded Yunnan during the reign of Emperor Xianzong.
Qian Neng amassed a fortune in Yunnan, incurring the wrath of both heaven and man. Despite numerous impeachments, he remained in power. Later, he was transferred to Nanjing to take a sinecure and retire, where his adopted son, Qian Ning, cared for him until his death.
Thanks to Qian Neng's influence, Qian Ning also inherited the position of a centurion in the Imperial Guard.
Having worked his way up in the capital for the past few years, he actually managed to gain the Emperor's favor, which shows he has some ability.
Su Wanwan's expression changed slightly.
Even the Ministry of Revenue got involved.
That's understandable, since the Ministry of Revenue was involved in supervising six out of the ten warehouses in the Imperial Household Department.
After years of collusion, how could they possibly be clean?
Lu Xingjian didn't speak, but simply drew the bow to its fullest extent, squinted, aimed at the bullseye, and released the arrow, which flew out of his hand.
Hit the bullseye.
Liu Jin nervously swallowed, then looked up to secretly observe the Emperor's expression.
When the Emperor was focused on taking aim, his jawline was taut and his expression was exceptionally stern.
Does that mean they disagree?
His heart began to pound.
If we disagree, what methods can we use to dissuade the Emperor from thoroughly investigating the ten imperial storehouses?
His gaze fell subtly on Empress Su, then swept over Yan Ge'er's face.
Empress Su and her adopted son, whom she was holding hands with, look remarkably alike.
Liu Jin narrowed his eyes slightly.
Gan Dong Wu Suo was the residence of the princes in the palace before they established their own residences and government offices.
What is the Empress's intention?
Yan Ge'er shrank back in fear.
The air suddenly felt a little tense.
Even Qian Yong'an, Qian Jie, and Qian Yan, who were standing in a row, sensed that something was wrong and became a little nervous.
Lu Xingjian casually put down the bow, his tone indifferent:
What is the Cabinet's opinion?
Liu Jin has already made arrangements with the cabinet:
"The cabinet's intention is to dispatch censors and other officials to conduct audits, and if any embezzlement or waste is found, to report it to the authorities."
Lu Xingjian picked up another bow and said absentmindedly:
"I grant your permission."
Liu Jin was overjoyed.
Five million taels of silver, physical goods worth five million taels of silver, a total of ten million taels of silver, and a large-scale audit case spanning six years was passed so easily.
The emperor's trust in him was truly beyond measure.
With such a major case underway, for safety reasons, the Emperor decided not to seriously investigate the Ten Treasurys of the Imperial Household Department any further.
Liu Jin wanted to say something more, but seeing that Lu Xingjian was too busy to pay attention to him, he wisely took his leave.
...
He Ying and Liu Qi stood not far from the side gate of the Rong Prince's Mansion, watching Yan Rong being led inside.
Liu Qi chuckled lazily: "Your wife is such a kind-hearted person, condoning such a treacherous servant. Aren't you afraid of being betrayed again?"
He Ying shook her head. "I don't understand why she did that either."
Liu Qi snorted coldly, turned to leave, his tone mocking, clearly disapproving of Su Wanwan's actions.
"Tolerating such unruly servants will only encourage other servants to follow suit. Anyway, the consequences of betraying their masters aren't serious, so let them betray them."
Crane Shadow was stunned.
He then turned to look at Liu Qi warily.
"Have you betrayed our lady?"
Liu Qi ignored her and walked further and further away.
He Ying lifted her skirt and chased after him, blocking his path: "Don't you dare get any funny ideas, or I'll make you regret it!"
As she spoke, she raised her fist, making a threatening, menacing gesture.
Liu Qi gently tapped He Ying's head with the hilt of his sword: "Why don't you try it now and see how you make me look good?"
He Ying's forehead stung from the blow, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"Will you repay me with your body, or will you give me a kiss?" Liu Qi winked and teased.
He Ying had never been teased like this before. Her face flushed red, and she spat out:
"What nonsense are you spouting?!"
She stamped her foot and pointed in the direction of Prince Rong's residence:
"You keep a close eye on them. Report any unusual activity immediately. No slacking off!"
Liu Qi leaned slightly closer to He Ying's ear, "What are you using to threaten me?"
He Ying tensed up, took two steps back in a panic, and asked warily:
"Why are you getting so close when you're just talking?"
Liu Qi narrowed his eyes, a cold smile playing on his lips. "You like me?"
Crane's image was pricked by a needle, and it instantly straightened its back:
"You're spouting nonsense! I've seen plenty of fine men out there, how could I possibly be interested in a roughneck like you?!"
Liu Qi scoffed, "That's good. I don't like bland, tasteless women like you."
He Ying's eyes reddened with anger. "Of course you wouldn't like a woman like me. You only like visiting brothels."
"I saw you coming out of Flower Squid Alley that day!"
Huazhi Lane was full of brothels and was a notorious den of iniquity in the capital.
Liu Qi's expression slowly turned cold, and he shrugged indifferently, "So what if it is?"
How could you be so shameless?!
He Ying's eyes widened, her body trembled slightly, and she clenched her fists tightly.
She didn't know why she was angry.
Liu Qi lazily crossed his arms, looking like a dead pig that wasn't afraid of boiling water:
"I'm rich, talented, and handsome. I can spend money to live a carefree life. Even prostitutes are eager to flatter me. How is that shameless?"
He lowered his voice and leaned closer, a half-smile on his face.
