Zhou Wanxiu was pushed to the ground.
She struggled to her feet, her face streaked with tears.
"Cousin Xingjian, it's me!"
"Who do you think it is?"
Lu Xingjian slowly stood up, leaning against the wall, his steps unsteady and his figure swaying.
After rubbing his temples, he said, "Get out."
Zhou Wanxiu picked up the wine jug from the ground and took several large gulps, choking and coughing uncontrollably. Mustering her courage, she shouted loudly at him:
"If you like her, why don't you marry her?"
"You just watched her get married and didn't even try to win her back, so what's with this pretense of deep affection?!"
They didn't mention that name.
Lu Xingjian stopped in his tracks, his drunkenness mostly gone.
Suddenly, a cold laugh:
"You like her?"
The word "she" was drawn out especially long.
It was as if Zhou Wanxiu had told some huge joke.
After saying that, he snatched the wine jug from her hand and smashed it against the opposite wall.
Broken porcelain shards flew everywhere.
The wine spilled everywhere.
The air was immediately filled with a rich aroma of wine.
Zhou Wanxiu cried out in fright, covering her head with her hands to avoid being cut by the flying shards.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Lu Xingjian lazily sit down on the ground again, head down, looking utterly disheveled and dejected.
Zhou Wanxiu felt a sudden, inexplicable pang of pain in her heart.
Having grown accustomed to his aloofness, composure, elegance, and cold indifference, I had never seen him like this before.
There's a sense of brokenness, like falling into the mortal world.
"Cousin Xingjian, I just want to stay by your side. Do you like me?"
Zhou Wanxiu begged humbly.
Lu Xingjian finally looked up at her, a hint of pity and sympathy slowly rising in his scarlet eyes.
He finally gave a self-deprecating laugh.
After a long while, he finally stood up again, staggered out, and sighed desolately.
"Let's go back."
Upon entering the main hall, Lu Xingjian immediately overturned the tea brought by the young eunuch and coldly ordered:
"No women are allowed to enter this place from now on!"
...
The next morning, during breakfast, Steward Li reported on the situation, mentioning that the Duke of Anguo's mansion was looking for the Duke of Yingguo to act as a matchmaker.
The British public is highly respected and holds a prestigious position among nobles.
When the late emperor appointed the empress, the Duke of Ying served as the welcoming envoy.
"The Duke of Anguo's mansion is also in contact with the Imperial Observatory, trying to pave the way for them to have their birth dates matched in advance."
Manager Li did not mention who "they" were.
But everyone knew perfectly well that it referred to Su Wanwan and Gu Ziyu.
Lu Xingjian paused, his hand holding the chopsticks, his expression somewhat indifferent.
A long silence followed.
The Duke of Anguo's mansion has considered everything thoroughly.
With the authoritative prediction from the Imperial Astronomical Bureau, Su Wanwan's reputation as a "husband-killer" was dispelled, which would be beneficial to her future social interactions.
To be fair, Gu Jia is a really good match.
He put down his chopsticks and asked in a low voice, "How badly is she injured?"
Steward Li was stunned for a moment, but when he saw Lu Xingjian give him a cold look, he immediately realized what was going on:
"It's still unclear. There's been no news from the Duke of Wei's residence yet."
Lu Xingjian had completely lost his appetite and said listlessly, "Let the imperial physician take a look."
"Assign someone capable and competent to the Imperial Observatory to match their birth charts with auspicious ones."
