Chapter 399 If I Die One Day

Su Wanwan woke up the moment her fingertips touched her brow.

Unable to hide her joy, she said, "You're awake."

Xiao Bin looked at the tears welling up in her eyes and was about to speak when Yan Ge'er, who was lying on the small bed not far away, sat up, rubbed his eyes, and called out, "Mother."

Without waiting for Su Wanwan to get up, he ran over barefoot from the bed and snuggled into her arms.

She glanced at Xiao Bin warily.

Xiao Bin's eyes dimmed slightly.

Heart constriction.

After not seeing him for several years, Yan Ge'er has grown up a lot and I no longer recognize him.

I will never again snuggle in his arms and call him "Uncle" in a childish voice like I did when I was little.

"Yan-ge'er, call him Uncle. Do you still remember your Uncle Xiao?" Su Wanwan instructed gently.

Yan Ge'er called out reluctantly.

"Mother, Uncle Xiao has woken up. Let's go back to see Father. I miss him so much."

The air suddenly became quiet.

After a long silence, Xiao Bin said, "You should go back now."

"We'll leave when it's light."

Yan Ge'er refused, insisting on leaving right now.

He felt a strong sense of crisis and didn't want his mother to be with Uncle Xiao for even a moment longer.

After the imperial physician examined Xiao Bin and confirmed that his condition had improved, Su Wanwan breathed a sigh of relief and left with her child.

"Shall we go see Father?"

On the carriage back, Yan Ge'er looked longingly at Su Wanwan.

Xiaoyuan Garden was brightly lit, and the sounds of string and wind instruments filled the air.

Lu Xingjian was drinking with Gu Ziyu and Qian Ning.

The room was filled with the aroma of wine.

Before the table, a scantily clad young woman from the Western Regions, dressed in red, was holding a pipa and displaying her graceful dance moves.

Every gesture she makes exudes charm.

Su Wanwan stared at the girl in red, her body stiffening.

The girl danced all the way to the table, picked up the wine glass with her lips, and presented the wine to Lu Xingjian.

This is an intention to personally feed the drink.

Yan Ge'er stared wide-eyed at the scene and called out, "Father!"

Lu Xingjian and the others then noticed them, raising an eyebrow and smiling, "What brings you all here?"

Su Wanwan: "I'm sorry to have disturbed your enjoyment."

Gu Ziyu and Qian Ning felt a little awkward and got up to say goodbye.

But before leaving, Gu Ziyu glanced at the girl in red and offered another explanation:

"This was presented by Ma Angjin, the former General of Yansui, who hoped to be reinstated and participate in the pursuit and suppression of bandits."

No wonder the girl looked somewhat like Maggie; even her clothes and style were modeled after Maggie.

This is clearly pandering to Lu Xingjian's tastes.

"Did the Emperor agree?" Su Wanwan asked.

Gu Ziyu looked at Lu Xingjian but did not speak.

If it were another border general, it would be easier to handle.

But it happened to be Ma Ji's brother, Ma Ang.

This was practically jumping on Su Wanwan's taboo.

Lu Xingjian had Ma Ang's sister perform a dance here, which probably meant he was planning to accept her offer.

Lu Xingjian was already half drunk, and he just lazily said, "Let's call it a day."

He came over, holding Yan Ge'er's hand with one hand and Su Wanwan's shoulder with the other, and headed towards the main courtyard.

His breath was filled with the rich aroma of alcohol, and Su Wanwan frowned slightly.

Yan Ge'er was also in a state of great shock.

He initially felt sorry for his father.

He went to great lengths to get his mother to come and see his father.

I never expected my father to be so happy.

That woman was dressed so scantily, she was practically clinging to her father!

If he hadn't spoken up in time, Father would have been face to face with her and drinking the wine she fed him!

That's outrageous!

Yan Ge'er felt a lump in his throat.

Both parents have people they like; let them find their own happiness, and we won't interfere anymore!

He doesn't want that!

Yan Ge'er clung to Lu Xingjian and Su Wanwan, and even after they finished washing up and went to bed, he told them three stories and still couldn't bear to fall asleep.

Lu Xingjian yawned widely and patted Yan Ge'er's little bottom.

"You brat, go to sleep. Your mother and I are tired."

Su Wanwan gently scolded him and moved his hand away:

"Take another picture, and the child looks even more energetic."

Yan Ge'er then secretly breathed a sigh of relief and closed his eyes.

If his parents don't fight and are getting along well, he won't have to be a pitiful child that no one wants.

Lu Xingjian took Su Wanwan's hand and left.

He quickly closed the bedroom door upon entering, pinned Su Wanwan against it, and kissed her chin for a while.

He was slightly out of breath, and his throat felt a little sore.

"You didn't stay with Xiao Bin, but you still remember to come see me?"

Su Wanwan said, "It's because Yan Ge'er misses you."

"And what about you?"

Su Wanwan: "We've come at an inopportune time; we're sorry to have disturbed your enjoyment."

Lu Xingjian's hands were restless as he teased in a low voice, "Jealous?"

"Now you know what kind of life I lead every day, right?"

He picked her up and carried her to the bed, threatening her in a low voice:

"If you continue to associate with Xiao Bin, I will listen to music and look at beautiful women every day."

Su Wanwan wasn't in a very good mood, after all, she still minded Ma Ji quite a bit.

He knew all too well how to upset her.

"Whatever makes you happy."

Lu Xingjian kissed her tenderly for a long time, "Wife, why are you not happy?"

“I have no interest in that woman; I just brought her here to annoy you.”

"Wanwan is the most beautiful woman in the world. I wouldn't even want a celestial being."

Su Wanwan grabbed his hand that was pulling at her belt, "Ah Shou."

"If you have another child, will you abandon Yan Ge'er?"

Lu Xingjian raised an eyebrow slightly and began to take off his clothes. "How could this be?"

Su Wanwan wrapped her arms around his neck, "If one day..."

Lu Xingjian reached out and covered her mouth, taking a deep breath. "There are no 'ifs'."

"None of that will happen."

Su Wanwan's eyes were filled with complicated emotions. "If I die one day, will you still treat Yan Ge'er well?"

The late emperor's mother died early, and Emperor Xianzong later had many favored concubines who bore him many sons.

As a result, the late emperor's position as crown prince was not so secure, and he was almost deposed.

As a mother, she always wants to plan for her son's long-term future.

Lu Xingjian kissed her lips. "Don't even think about abandoning me."

"Wanwan, you can't get rid of me."

Su Wanwan didn't say anything more.

Lu Xingjian, however, was a bit irritable and made a scene.

Just as things were getting heated, Su Wanwan suddenly fainted.

Lu Xingjian was startled and quickly pinched her philtrum. Just as he was about to call the imperial physician, Su Wanwan slowly woke up and stopped him, saying, "No need, I'm fine."

Lu Xingjian was filled with regret. "I was too excited. Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"

"It's alright." Su Wanwan's voice sounded a little weak.

Lu Xingjian sensed something was wrong.

There have been many times before when things were even more chaotic, but she has never fainted halfway through doing something like this.

But he asked the imperial physician who had taken Wanwan's pulse, and she said her body was normal and there were still a few pills left.

There has been no significant progress in tracking down the people who went to seek medical treatment for Liu Qi.

"I'm a little tired." Su Wanwan said lazily, not wanting to move.

"You should get some sleep." Lu Xingjian scratched his head, having lost the will to continue his work.

Su Wanwan fell asleep quickly.

I woke up feeling much better the next morning.
