After examining Su Wanwan, the imperial physician shook his head with a grave expression:
"If I don't take good care of myself, I'm afraid I'll be left with a lifelong disability and be lame for the rest of my life."
Gu Ziyu's expression immediately changed:
"Dr. Zeng, you must cure her! I'll do anything for you, even be your slave!"
Physician Zeng glared at Gu Ziyu.
"What nonsense are you talking about? If you serve me like a slave, wouldn't the Duke of Anguo want my head?"
However, Physician Zeng still found it quite useful.
Gaining a favor from the eldest grandson of the Gu family will make things much easier in the future.
Gu Ziyu looked anxious and embarrassed, unsure of what to say.
Physician Zeng stroked his beard, not wanting to make things difficult for him, and said with a smile:
"As long as you follow the doctor's advice to rest well and strengthen your exercise, there shouldn't be any problems with recovery."
"Just make sure you rest in bed for the next two weeks and don't put any weight on your injured leg, understand?"
Gu Ziyu nodded vigorously beside him.
Physician Zeng rolled his eyes at him and looked at Su Wanwan with a stern face.
Su Wanwan gave a wry smile.
Today's self-inflicted injury came at a high price.
My leg was almost ruined.
Unexpectedly, Lu Xingjian left the palace and arrived so late.
But at least he came.
She had already hinted that there was something wrong with the tea, so would Lu Xingjian expose Empress Xia's tricks to her face?
I'm afraid he'll consider our marital bond and let it go lightly.
Su Wanwan was very obedient: "Doctor Zeng, I will try my best."
Gu Ziyu glared at her, his tone a little fierce:
"What do you mean 'try your best'? Even if the sky falls, you still need to take good care of your leg, understand?"
Su Wanwan looked at his slightly angry face and didn't know what to say.
In this palace, they were all just servants; how much choice did they have?
How can we bring down those high-ranking and cunning nobles without paying a price?
The two of them just looked at each other, speechless for a moment.
Physician Zeng was engrossed in writing a prescription and paid no attention to them.
When Meng Yue saw the door being pushed open and Lu Xingjian standing there, he felt utterly overwhelmed.
Meng Yue coughed lightly, reminding him:
“Miss Su, it’s inconvenient here with so many people. You should go to the Qianqing Palace to recuperate.”
Su Wanwan turned her head to look at him and saw Lu Xingjian outside the door.
Behind him lay the silent, desolate night, with the autumn wind and rain rustling softly.
The room was brightly lit and warm, like two different worlds.
He was still wearing a dark-colored robe, almost blending into the darkness behind him.
The pale face was illuminated by the room's lights, half in shadow and half in light, making it appear exceptionally unapproachable.
She pursed her lips, her expression momentarily uneasy.
Lu Xingjian had been staring at her, so he naturally noticed this slight change in her expression and narrowed his eyes slightly.
Everyone in the room quickly stood up and bowed.
Su Wanwan also struggled to stand up from the chair.
It was indeed against the rules for a palace maid to run to the guards' duty room to take shelter from the rain, and it could easily implicate others.
Lu Xingjian walked straight up to her, picked her up without expression, and turned to leave.
Su Wanwan did not struggle.
She simply looked over his shoulder at Gu Ziyu inside the house.
Gu Ziyu stared coldly at their departing figures, then smiled brightly at Su Wanwan when she saw her gaze.
That smile looked especially heartbreaking.
He didn't even have the right to stop them from leaving.
Su Wanwan felt extremely guilty.
She shouldn't have agreed to their marriage at the Empress Dowager's birthday banquet.
They dragged Gu Ziyu into this bottomless quagmire.
Lu Xingjian lowered his eyes and glanced at her gently, a shadow covering his pupils.
The chill intensified throughout my body.
The raindrops pattered against the umbrella overhead.
His body heat occasionally transferred to her.
Su Wanwan felt a chill creeping down her spine.
Even though she was being held in his arms, it felt like there was a galaxy separating them.
"Your Majesty, you don't need to worry about me."
She racked her brains, but could only come up with this sentence.
Lu Xingjian paused slightly, his jaw tightened, and his voice was icy and extremely sarcastic:
"Who are you to me? It's none of my business."
Su Wanwan froze, struggling for a moment before saying, "Then you can just leave me here."
Lu Xingjian's hands were like iron hoops, firmly supporting her. His tone was even colder, with a hint of disdain.
"Then tomorrow morning, a dead body will be found on the imperial throne, and I will be condemned as a tyrant."
Su Wanwan paused, her expression growing increasingly somber and distant.
Turn your face outwards and try to avoid touching Lu Xingjian with your body as much as possible.
If he despises her so much, why did he come looking for her?
He was so affectionate with Empress Xia just now, but he's so cold and aloof when he sees her.
Meng Yue, who was holding an umbrella behind him, felt his heart leap into his throat.
The atmosphere is terrifying.
He was already getting soaked in the rain, but the cold, hard atmosphere between the two men made the hairs on his body stand on end.
Even though it was the Emperor holding Miss Su, a very intimate gesture, the two looked like enemies.
The Qianqing Palace was extremely large.
Solemn and majestic, like a terrifying monster standing in the darkness.
If Lu Xingjian hadn't been holding her, Su Wanwan wouldn't have had the courage to approach the palace.
Having lived in the palace for over ten years, she had never been here before.
Several emperors died here, including the late emperor.
She was placed on a tatami mat in a small room.
Lu Xingjian sat down on the other side of the couch.
There was a small table between the two people.
Lu Xingjian looked at her coldly, his tone reproachful:
