It was already dark when the convoy arrived outside Dongzhimen.
Steward Li came over and asked:
“Miss Su, the Danyanlou and Chongyilou in front are both properties of the Imperial Household Department. Danyanlou’s braised goose feet are a specialty, while Chongyilou serves traditional Nanjing cuisine. Would you like to dine at one of them?”
Su Wanwan paused for a moment. This Steward Li was really shrewd; he had dug a pit for her to fall into.
They didn't give her the option to refuse at all.
"Steward Li, please enjoy your meal. We'll head back to the Su family now."
Su Wanwan didn't like to show her face in public, nor did she want to have any more contact with Lu Xingjian.
Steward Li returned to Lu Xingjian's carriage, somewhat hesitant:
"Master, what do you think of this?"
The Emperor's invitation to dine was a way of giving Miss Su a way out.
Unfortunately, they simply wouldn't take the bait.
Lu Xingjian glanced at Su Wanwan's carriage without showing any emotion, and said in a low voice:
"Whatever she wants."
Just as Su Wanwan's carriage was about to start, she heard a warm voice from the roadside:
"But Miss Su? What a coincidence, my wife was just talking about you."
He Ying was completely bewildered: "Madam Yu?"
She had witnessed Madam Yu's enthusiasm before; she was quite difficult to deal with.
The girl was worn down by the teasing and agreed to buy all of her Yunnan jade goods in exchange for a few days of peace and quiet.
I thought I wouldn't have any contact with her after I came to the capital, but I didn't expect to run into her again today.
Su Wanwan smiled and nudged her, "It's up to you to handle this time."
He Ying got off the carriage with a trembling look in his eyes. Not long after, he returned with a look of utter despair, followed by a middle-aged beauty dressed in colorful embroidery.
