The Zhongzhou soldier's voice trembled slightly, clearly terrified by the sudden attack.
"Waaah—"
The sharp and drawn-out sound of the Central Plains air raid siren came from afar.
Upon hearing the alarm, the Zhongzhou officer hurriedly poked his head out of the SUV. He watched in astonishment as the flames that had exploded in the sky gradually dissipated, and couldn't help but think to himself:
'Luckily I ran fast.'
'The Central Plains defense line is equipped with anti-aircraft guns; even if war breaks out, the Eternal Flame Alliance couldn't possibly fire that far off course.'
'Was this just a test of the air defense range?'
However, it was getting more and more dangerous outside the defense line, so he quickly finished the procedures and went back to ask his father to promote him to regimental commander, which would be much safer.
Thinking of this, the officer quickly turned to the driver in the driver's seat and urged him:
"Hurry! Get out of this dangerous area and back to the defensive line."
"Yes, sir." The driver didn't dare to be negligent in the slightest and stepped on the gas again.
The officer glanced down at the information in the booklet; the return route would pass through area B33.
There was only one team in this area. Once he registered this team, he could go back and report, and then he would return to the defensive line and never have to come out again.
"Let's take a look at area B33 on the way."
"yes."
The SUV quickly moved away from the area near Li Yu and headed towards another area.
Before long, the off-road vehicle arrived at area B33.
The officer looked up and saw a large group of people migrating in the distance.
He immediately became certain that the last team was definitely this one.
As they drew closer, the officer was surprised to find that the area in front of him was filled with a dense mass of people.
The number of people in the team exceeded his expectations, and there were even two extremely disgusting-looking beasts in the team.
Strangely, there was only this one team in the entire B33 area, and there wasn't even a single lone refugee nearby.
The officer simply assumed that the troop had dispersed the refugees they encountered along the way, which was why the area had become so deserted, and he didn't take it to heart at all.
After all, even ghosts exist in Zhongzhou, so all sorts of strange and unusual things can happen.
The SUV, just like before, blocked the way in front of the group.
A soldier got out of the vehicle first, walked around, and respectfully opened the door.
The officer shook his head, tucked the booklet under his arm, and got out of the car with an air of arrogance.
He first glanced at the two enormous and deformed beasts in the crowd.
The two strange beasts had rotten skin and exposed white bones, and looked like they should have died long ago, but they were still able to stand and walk.
'It seems there are awakened beings here who can control alien beasts,' the officer thought to himself.
Then, he casually glanced at the group of people in front of him.
They all had dull, lifeless eyes, red and devoid of any light, as if they had been ravaged by some terrible infectious disease.
Moreover, everyone walked with a limp, which looked very strange.
The officer was startled upon seeing this. He quickly pulled a mask out of his pocket, put it on, and subconsciously took a step back, creating a slight distance between himself and the group.
At that moment, all he wanted was to finish quickly and get away from this group of people.
So he quickly spoke, following the prescribed procedure:
"According to relevant regulations, it is now necessary to register large groups of people in advance."
In the very center of the crowd, a little girl lying on the back of the strange beast sat up curiously. She seemed to hear voices from the front of the group.
Her red eyes stared straight ahead, her face full of confusion, clearly not understanding why someone was blocking her way.
The officer's gaze swept over the little girl, completely ignoring her.
He stretched out his hand and pointed instead at the burly man in front of him, who was over two meters tall and exceptionally strong, and shouted loudly:
"Hey! You must be their boss, right? Come over here and register."
The burly man looked bewildered, clearly not understanding the situation.
Seeing this, the officer nodded again and said firmly, "That's right, I'm talking to you! Stop dawdling and cooperate with us."
The burly man walked over with heavy, unsteady steps, his right hand gripping a huge axe, the blade stained with dried, dark red blood.
His massive body was like a moving hill, and although his muscles had lost their former vitality, they were still as solid as a rock.
However, on his left arm, a piece of peeled flesh was abruptly exposed, looking particularly gruesome. With each step the burly man took, the precarious chunks of flesh on his body trembled, as if they might fall off at any moment.
The officer also noticed that a large chunk of flesh was missing from the burly man's shoulder, and couldn't help but grimace; it looked incredibly painful.
Clearly, this group of people had just experienced an extremely fierce battle.
Looking at the others, they were in similar situations to the strong man, with injuries to varying degrees, and some even had clearly visible bullet holes.
However, his job was only to register in advance. Who these teams fought along the way, and whether they could successfully reach the defensive line, were not his concerns.
Outside of this Central Plains defense line, they do not interfere with or intervene in the fighting between other groups.
"You lot are at best a group of refugees." The officer didn't even bother to ask any questions before readily assigning the group their status.
He looked down and wrote the number 33 in the blank next column of the booklet.
After finishing writing, the officer looked up, expressionless, at the burly man before him, and asked in an impatient tone:
What's your name?
After asking the question, he picked up his pen and waited for an answer, but after a while he didn't hear anything.
He frowned and looked up, only to see the burly man standing there dumbfounded, and even the group of people behind him were standing there motionless.
The group of people stared at him with bloodshot eyes, like a bunch of idiots.
The officer looked at the burly man in front of him with suspicion: "Aren't you the leader? What's your team leader called?"
Still, no one answered; there was complete silence.
"Can't you understand this? I'm asking who your team leader is?"
The scene remained silent, as if time had frozen.
"This is unbelievable! You don't even know who your leader is?"
The officer was getting extremely impatient. He dreaded encountering refugees who couldn't even speak properly. These people were probably unheard of even in Zhongzhou, and communicating with them would be too much of a hassle.
If it weren't for someone actually investigating, he would have finished writing the booklet before even setting off.
Thinking this through, he stopped asking and casually scribbled something down in the booklet:
'Red-eyed, Team 33, a group of refugees'
