After the ritual was completed, Monk Jingshi put down what he was holding and looked down at Luo Fei's pale face inside the barrier.
He clasped his hands together, softly chanting Buddhist mantras, his face showing even deeper compassion, yet also a profound, insightful weight:
“Amitabha. Young benefactor, your obsession... is truly as deep as an abyss.”
The monk Jingshi's gaze seemed to pierce through the veil of death, revealing that intense will, the burning resentment and injustice within Luo Fei's remnant soul.
Luo Fei seemed to linger there, unwilling to leave, and even more so, he wanted to use the power of the Pure World Monk to help him take revenge and seek justice.
"It is my duty as a monk to help the souls of the dead, but it is not the right way to carry out killings."
The monk Jingshi's voice was deep and clear, as if responding to Luo Fei's silent plea, or as if admonishing himself.
He neither agreed nor refused. Instead, he slowly bent down and sat cross-legged, extending his broad, warm palm to gently grasp Luo Fei's already cold and stiff hand.
The moment their palms touched, a powerful surge of supernatural energy spread out.
"All phenomena are empty in nature, but cause and effect are infallible. Now, with a compassionate heart, I trace back the flow of karma."
"Namo Amitabha Buddha..."
The monk Jingshi lowered his eyes, and golden Buddhist light suddenly flowed around him.
An invisible, gentle yet incredibly powerful spiritual force surged upstream along Luo Fei's cold limbs.
The monk Jingshi remained seated in the same spot, but his spirit seemed to break free from the constraints of his body and slowly floated out of it.
Then his spiritual body transformed into a golden stream of light and plunged into Luo Fei's unyielding obsession.
"Buzz—"
The world spins! Sensory deprivation!
When Monk Jingshi opened his eyes again, he was already in a place filled with the smell of rust and engine oil.
"This is..."
Monk Jingshi looked around. The huge metal frame was rusted by the constant erosion of the rain. The sky outside was dark. This must be an abandoned factory in the western district of Tiancheng.
A rough voice suddenly came from behind: "Luo Fei, hurry up and deliver this batch of nutrients to 'Pangolin'."
"This batch of goods is indeed a bit too much, it will take some time."
Looking back, the speaker was an old cripple who limped over, pushing a heavy metal box. His face wore a smile more painful than a grimace as he spoke:
"Luo Fei, why don't you give it a try? This time there's a lot of goods, but the reward is also high, enough for you to live on for half a year."
Upon hearing this, Luo Fei immediately became suspicious.
He knew that "Pangolin" was a notorious black market dealer, and getting involved with such a person would never bring any good.
So he spoke first, saying firmly, "You know I've always been a legitimate deliveryman, I never deliver anything illegal."
A hint of wariness flashed in Luo Fei's eyes; he didn't want to fall into an abyss for the sake of temporary gains.
The old cripple burst into laughter, his laughter filled with mockery:
"The higher-ups are giving you the job because they think highly of your abilities, so stop complaining."
Immediately afterward, the lame man glanced at the steward who was watching them, then changed the subject, his expression turning serious as he reminded him:
"Luo Fei, if this shipment isn't delivered, not only will you lose your job, but you might also face hefty fines for breach of contract."
The old cripple chuckled strangely: "Don't forget, you're not the only one in your family. If you don't work, others will go hungry."
Luo Fei felt conflicted after hearing what the old cripple said.
He simply couldn't afford the penalty for breach of contract, and his family really needed the money to make a living.
After much hesitation, Luo Fei gritted his teeth and accepted the box; he had no choice but to compromise.
"That's right!" The old cripple nodded silently.
Luo Fei picked up the box, his body emitting a faint blue light. After testing its weight, he confirmed that he was capable of delivering all the goods to their destination.
This unique ability is also his means of survival.
As the old cripple spoke, his gaze remained fixed on Luo Fei, and a glint of energy flashed in his eyes from time to time.
Clearly, the cripple is also an awakened being, and has been maintaining some kind of superpower.
Luo Fei didn't notice the old cripple's actions, but instead turned to look around.
There are far more employees in the factory today than he had imagined.
Ten trucks bearing the logo of "Sky City Relief" were busy unloading goods, with law enforcement and the Thunder Bureau standing guard alongside them.
Even the official personnel of Tiancheng were mobilized, and with such tight security measures, Luo Fei felt that this batch of goods was unlikely to be illegal items.
The reason they needed Luo Fei to deliver goods was because Luo Fei possessed a unique teleportation ability, which allowed him to deliver goods to a location without anyone noticing and without leaving any trace.
Even if someone were to investigate backwards, they wouldn't find anything.
Moreover, this wasn't the first time Luo Fei had collaborated with them; it was just that the goods being transported were different each time.
Luo Fei also understood that although the goods might not be illegal, there was definitely something fishy going on.
Although he had a vague feeling that something was wrong, it wasn't something a deliveryman was in charge of; he only needed to collect the money and deliver the goods.
Just as Luo Fei was preparing to carry out the delivery mission according to the plan already arranged by the old cripple.
A faint but urgent child's voice suddenly echoed in his mind:
"Big brother, save me..."
Luo Fei felt a chill run down his spine, thinking he was hallucinating. He shook his head, trying to dispel the strange sound.
