After all, the only ones who could repel the Netherworld Guards under the Soul Master were those ghosts who had previously tried to save him, the so-called Light Faction.
Seeing the centurion and the group of ghosts praying devoutly to the gods, Li Yu's doubts deepened:
"Have you seen that deity?"
"Shh!" The centurion, his face filled with terror, immediately stopped Li Yu:
"How can mortals see the gods?"
"Asking such a question is extremely disrespectful. The gods are all-knowing. If they hear you and punish you, you'll be in deep trouble."
"Is it that serious?" Li Yu exclaimed.
He wondered how this deity's behavior differed from that of the Soul Master behind the Underworld Guard.
They are all just unquestionable powers.
The centurion, with a look that seemed to say, "Your understanding is insufficient," earnestly advised:
"As a high-level beast, it is normal that you do not understand because you have never received the blessings of the gods, just as I have never seen a high-level beast like you, nor have we ever had the fortune to see the gods."
"But since the gods created humankind, it's likely that high-level beasts were also created by the gods. It's always good to have reverence and be careful."
Li Yu suddenly changed the subject, asking tentatively:
"Since you know about gods and their servants, the Light Faction, do you know who drives those bandits?"
"It is the lord of darkness and evil!" the centurion declared resolutely, his face filled with resentment.
"It is the source of all evil in that abyss, the lord of evil, who has completely brainwashed and corrupted the poor compatriots on the other side of the rift!"
Let them become the fallen! Let them turn their backs on the light, become mere pawns, and raise their swords against their own blood relatives!
They are trapped in a cold, endless abyss, never having seen the light, nor understanding the holiness and greatness of the gods!
Li Yu: "......"
He silently looked up and glanced at the equally dark underground environment around him, wondering if the centurion had ever seen the light either.
"But the gods are on our side!" The centurion suddenly roused himself, the bedsheets billowing violently around him.
"The gods have bestowed upon us treasures and sent servants of light to drive away the evil spirits and protect us."
"This is the proof!" The centurion suddenly raised his hands, holding a rusty, chipped shovel high as if he were raising a holy sword!
Long live the gods!
The surrounding ghosts, as if ignited, all raised their precious, broken 'treasures'—
A broken plastic comb, a cracked ceramic cup, and a twisted wire.
The ghosts followed suit, chanting in unison with fervor:
Long live the gods!
The centurion, like a faithful servant of God and a most fervent preacher, spoke with impassioned fervor:
"The gods, with their supreme power, built this magnificent rock wall to keep evil spirits away and protect our peace!"
"But the gods have more important things to do, so they will leave on the day of their departure. Without the gods' power to maintain it, the rock wall will open briefly, and those evil spirits and bandits in the darkness will take the opportunity to enter!"
"Bringing slaughter, plunder, and endless violence!"
The centurion brandished his small shovel as if it were a holy sword, his voice rising to the highest register:
"But things are different now! With servants sent by the gods to help us, we are no longer afraid!"
"Light will surely dispel darkness! Divine grace endures forever!"
"Wow!"
The ghosts throughout the city cheered wildly.
Light will prevail!
Long live the gods!
Li Yu watched the blind revelry quietly until the ghosts fell silent again, then he posed a pointed question to the centurion:
"Since the gods want to protect you, why don't they just step in and help you eliminate the evil spirits?"
The surrounding ghosts fell silent instantly, the clamor ceased abruptly, and all eyes focused on the centurion.
The centurion showed no surprise, as if he had already thought about and answered this question countless times and already had the answer in his heart.
A sacred radiance, a mixture of compassion and reverence, appeared on his face, and his voice became deep and infectious:
"Because God sees all humans as His children, even if some children are blinded by evil spirits, fall into darkness, and commit numerous sins, God still loves humanity! He cannot bear to completely destroy any lost soul."
"This is the great mercy of the gods! Possessing benevolence and compassion, embracing all of humanity with great love, and showing kindness and pity for humankind!"
The centurion's voice was like an aria, full of self-pity, as he raised his arms and shouted:
"The divine will not abandon anyone who is deceived! It will forgive and embrace all lost sheep!"
"Waaah... Gods..."
"It's so touching, the gods are truly great."
"I also want to become a servant of the gods."
The nearby spirits were all moved by the centurion's noble words.
Li Yu stared blankly at the centurion. No wonder he could become the leader of these ghosts; he really knew how to talk. It was a waste of his talents to stay in this remote area.
"How stupid." The Nightmare Beast's voice suddenly came from the mental sea.
It looked at the absurd thoughts of the ghosts before it, and their blind worship of the gods. A greed welled up in its eyes instead.
The Nightmare Beast mimicked the tone of the Pure World Monk, saying:
“Li Yu, look at these pitiful souls who are being deceived. Rather than letting them live in absurd fantasies, why not just ‘exorcise’ them? That would be a good deed.”
Reminded by the Nightmare Beast, Li Yu's lips suddenly curled up slightly, as if he had thought of an even more interesting method.
A ritual to deliver the deceased? No.
Since they so yearn for light and so firmly believe in the divine...
