Chapter 655 The Infant Spirit Returns, the Ghost Arrives in Kangcheng

"Lord Li Yu!"

Luan Ya hurriedly struggled to his feet despite the pressure, bowed deeply, and said:

"May we go together to investigate? Perhaps... perhaps we can offer some experience in dealing with ghosts."

Luan Ya's words were half true and half false. On one hand, he wanted to see Li Yu's methods for clearing away the thick fog and ghosts.

On the other hand, he does indeed possess a method for dealing with such sudden ghostly crises.

Li Yu didn't stop walking, but just glanced at Ma Yuanbai casually.

Ma Yuanbai, who had been standing quietly to the side, immediately understood and casually remarked to Luan Ya and the others:

"Come on, follow me."

He then turned around and quickly followed Li Yu with Heisha and the others.

Luan Ya dared not delay and immediately led the bewildered Jin Cheng squad to follow closely behind.

The group of people in the council hall quickly left the city lord's mansion and soon arrived at the north side of Kangcheng, climbing the north city wall.

The cold rain, mixed with the biting wind, swept over us. The Kangcheng warriors guarding the city walls were already on high alert, their expressions solemn as they gazed into the distance.

When Luan Ya and Jin Cheng's team arrived at the top of the city wall, they gasped in shock when they saw the view in the distance, their faces turning deathly pale!

Beyond the thick white fog, on the northern highlands, a chilling wind howled.

Countless ghosts, like a torrent bursting its banks, carrying overwhelming resentment, swept towards Kangcheng with the intent to destroy everything!

Its sheer size and ferocity far surpassed any ghost they had ever seen before!

Before that terrifying horde of ghosts, a disheveled but still orderly army was fleeing for its life!

The soldiers in the ranks were vaguely visible, wearing the standard armor of the Central Plains Legion, but almost all of them were wounded, and their banners were tattered.

Even more striking was the general at the very front of the procession, wielding an ice crystal spear and riding a black steed. He was leading the way, radiating an astonishing chill that seemed to rival the sinister aura of the pursuers behind him.

"Look at those flags, it's the army from Zhongzhou! They're being hunted down by ghosts!" Zhang Wen exclaimed in shock, her finger trembling as she pointed.

"My God... so many ghosts!" The members of the Jincheng Squad were terrified.

Seeing this, Luan Ya felt a chill run down his spine and, disregarding all etiquette, immediately turned to Li Yu and shouted urgently:

"Lord Li Yu! Quickly! Order the city gates closed! Activate defenses! Prepare for battle!"

"Such a massive horde of ghosts, if it were to breach the city, the consequences would be unimaginable! We must first bring the Central Plains forces into the city to defend it! Otherwise, it will be too late!"

However, Li Yu turned a deaf ear to the commotion around him and Luan Ya's shouts and suggestions.

He simply stood quietly on the city wall, his gaze passing through the thick fog to the forefront of the ghost tide, a knowing glint in his eyes.

Li Yu could already sense that, amidst the overwhelming aura of ghosts, the joyful emotions of the little infant spirit were also clearly transmitted back.

At the same time, he also recognized the leader who was leading the way, exuding a chilling aura and the unique pressure of a Star Lord—the Crown Prince of the Northern Border, Xiao Zhan.

He was very surprised when he received the call earlier, never expecting that Xiao Zhan would fill the last vacancy among the Twelve Star Lords and become the Seventh Star Lord.

Xiao Zhan also informed him that they had successfully captured Zhou Zhenbei's son, Zhou Xiaopeng!

Xiao Zhan arrived in Kangcheng in such a way, bringing such a "grand gift".

I never imagined that Zhou Xiaopeng would fall into his hands! Li Yu's gaze gradually turned cold.

The remaining troops and the ghost army that had rushed from afar moved with incredible speed, and in the blink of an eye, they were close to Kangcheng.

Soon, everyone on the city wall could clearly see the terrifying ghost.

Above the ghost's head, the little infant spirit was riding a golden-red arrow, guiding Xiao Zhan along the way.

The little infant spirit is currently riding on the arrow that Li Yu sent to meet the little infant spirit after receiving Xiao Zhan's call, to ensure that Zhou Xiaopeng could be brought back safely!

Seeing that Li Yu did not respond, Luan Ya looked at her again with concern.

Xiao Zhan rode in from afar, followed closely by Jiang Feng and the remnants of the Third Army Corps.

Behind them swirled, chilling white mist, within which countless ghostly spirits struggled and ran wildly.

As the distance to Kangcheng continued to shrink, the ghosts became increasingly active, emitting shrieks.

The white mist even slowly swallowed up the Zhongzhou soldiers at the back of the column, gradually overtaking Xiao Zhan and rushing to the front of the column, wanting to rush into the thick fog surrounding Kangcheng as soon as possible.

They thought the thick fog outside Kangcheng would hold them off for a while, but to their surprise, with a "whoosh!" a golden-red streak of light broke through the fog first.

Even the four battalions and spider cavalry inside the thick fog made way, allowing Xiao Zhan to easily lead the ghost army through the fog defense line.

The little infant spirit rode on the arrow, excitedly shouting "Aba aba," and flew straight towards the city wall where Li Yu was.

"Lord Li Yu! Make a decision quickly! The ghosts are about to rush over!" Seeing that Li Yu was still not moving, Luan Ya was so anxious that he almost jumped up.

In his view, Kangcheng was about to face utter destruction!

Although the little ghost leading the group looked small, its yin energy was definitely the heaviest among the ghost army!

Luan Ya couldn't understand why the city lord could remain so calm in the face of such a terrifying crisis. Had he been scared out of his wits?

At this rate, Kangcheng will not be able to discuss any cooperation with them, and it will probably change hands again today!

With such a terrifying number of ghosts occupying Kangcheng, it will probably be much more difficult for Zhongzhou to regain control of Kangcheng from the mindless ghost army than to negotiate with Li Yu!

What made Luan Ya even more desperate was that after passing through the thick fog on the outskirts of Kang City, those ghosts seemed to have received some kind of nourishment, and their speed and size increased dramatically again!

The hideous ghostly figures bared their fangs and roared as they tried to break free of the last vestiges of the mist and rush straight towards the city wall!

"It's over!" Zhang Wen almost fell over again. She couldn't figure out how the people in Kangcheng could survive under such a massive attack of ghosts.

Only Luan Ya retained a sliver of composure, glancing unintentionally back towards the Kangcheng Monument. Perhaps that was the only place where their squad could survive the onslaught of the ghost army.

Just as the members of Jincheng's team were ashen-faced and on the verge of despair.

Li Yu finally moved.

He slowly raised his hand, but instead of pointing at the ghostly army below the city, he gently caught the energy arrow that flew back.

The little infant spirit riding on him lightly jumped onto his shoulder, affectionately rubbed against his cheek, and then proudly pointed its little hand to the huge "ghost legion" outside the city, as if showing off how large the army it had brought was.

Then he pointed to Xiao Zhan, who was galloping towards him on horseback, and gestured in a babbling manner.

A faint smile curved Li Yu's lips. His gaze swept over the disheveled yet determined Xiao Zhan outside the city, the remnants of the Central Plains army behind him, and the silent yet massive army of ghosts. Finally, he spoke, his voice echoing across the city walls:

"Open the city gates."

"???"

Luan Ya and the entire Jin Cheng team froze on the spot, their minds blank, almost thinking they were hallucinating.
