"Oh……"
A very soft, cold laugh escaped from Zhou Zhenbei's throat.
He stopped looking up at the strange activity in the sky and slowly withdrew his gaze, his figure quickly disappearing into the sound of rain.
The world was shrouded in gray, with raindrops forming an almost impenetrable curtain.
At the same time.
In the western suburbs of Jincheng, there is an almost abandoned old-style martial arts training ground.
Rainwater washed over the rusted steel frame and the broken ground.
In the open space in the center of the training ground, a figure stood like an iron javelin.
Despite the raging winds and torrential rain, it remained steadfast.
He was none other than Wu Caijun, the third general of Zhongzhou, a fierce and ruthless general known for his bravery and fierceness.
Wu Caijun was only wearing a faded old-fashioned combat uniform, and his tall body remained motionless in the torrential rain.
There was no energy fluctuation around him, and he simply let the cold rain soak him from head to toe.
Her black hair clung tightly to her forehead, and water streamed down her angular face and neck.
But he seemed oblivious, simply tilting his head back slightly, closing his eyes, and feeling the force of the raindrops hitting his face.
This isn't asceticism; it's more like a... silent catharsis.
Or perhaps it's a silent dialogue with some memory deep within oneself.
"Report!" A questioning voice came from not far away.
Wu Caijun waved casually, the movement so small it was almost imperceptible.
Two guards wearing simple raincoats noticed this and immediately brought over the officer that Zhao Deyang had sent.
Without saying a word, they turned and retreated to the edge of the training ground, like two stone statues.
Looking at the figure in the rain, a strange look flashed in the officer's eyes.
But he dared not be negligent in the slightest, and quickly stood at attention and raised his hand to salute.
"General Wu!"
Wu Caijun did not respond immediately.
Instead, he suppressed all the violent energy deep within his heart.
A few seconds later, he slowly straightened his head and opened his eyes.
His body trembled slightly, and all the rainwater that had soaked his clothes was instantly shaken into the finest water mist, which exploded into a hazy white halo around him.
Wu Caijun turned his head to look.
His gaze fell on the lieutenant, and beneath his calm eyes lay a highly oppressive scrutiny.
He recognized the other party as Zhao Deyang's subordinate at a glance.
"snort."
A soft hum, devoid of any discernible emotion, sent a slight shiver down the officer's spine.
"Zhao Deyang sent you here, it can't be anything good."
Wu Caijun's voice was as unpleasant as two stones rubbing together.
It's not a question, it's a statement.
It carried with it a sense of understanding and even certainty.
The lieutenant swallowed hard, trying to remain calm:
"General Wu! I have been ordered to come and deliver a message from General Zhao Deyang!"
"speak."
Wu Caijun spoke succinctly, not even suggesting that the officer find shelter from the rain before continuing the conversation, as if the torrential downpour was the most suitable backdrop for the moment.
The officer took a deep breath and clearly repeated all of Zhao Deyang's words about Li Yu going to the Changshengmen headquarters and asking Wu Caijun if he was interested in "meeting an old friend and settling an old score".
When the words "old scores" were mentioned, the officer keenly noticed that a spark seemed to flash extremely faintly deep in Wu Caijun's flint-like eyes, causing him to feel a pang of fear.
After the officer finished speaking, the rain began to pour.
The air between them seemed to freeze, colder than the rain.
Wu Caijun remained silent, only staring at the lieutenant.
His gaze seemed to pierce through the lieutenant and reach directly to Zhao Deyang, who was "playing chess" behind him.
After a long pause, he managed a slight twitch at the corner of his mouth, which was hardly a smile; it was more like a cold sneer.
"Zhao Deyang...he certainly knows how to pick his timing and his people."
His voice was deep:
"You want to use Li Yu as an arrow to stir up a hornet's nest, and you also want to drag me into it to keep him in check?"
"They even have the audacity to say they want to help me settle old scores? They've got some nerve."
He took a few steps forward, his military boots splashing water as he stepped into the puddles.
That restrained aura, like a dormant volcano, subtly rose as he moved, causing the surrounding rain to give way.
“Go back and tell Zhao Deyang,”
Wu Caijun's voice suddenly turned sharp, each word like a hammered nail:
"I have no interest in playing chess with him. I remember the mess of the Changsheng Sect better than anyone else! When it's time to settle it, I'll do it myself; I don't need him to remind me."
The officer was forced to take a half step back by the sudden burst of oppressive force, his face turning pale.
But Wu Caijun's tone immediately shifted, his intimidating aura subsided slightly, replaced by a deeper emotion.
He looked up at the heavy rain in the sky, his gaze seemingly piercing through the layers of rain and distance.
"but……"
He muttered to himself, his voice so low it was almost drowned out by the rain:
"Someone actually dared to go there and confront them head-on... That's much braver than many big shots who are holed up in Jincheng, living a life of debauchery."
Wu Caijun withdrew his gaze and looked back at the lieutenant. His eyes had returned to calm, but the roughness and hardness remained undiminished.
"Alright, I've seen the person. You've delivered the message. Go back now."
He immediately told them to leave.
"Yes, sir!" The officer dared not say more, saluted again, and turned to leave the training ground quickly.
He came with a mission, but left even more uneasy.
General Wu's reaction did not seem to follow General Zhao's expected script entirely.
Once again, only Wu Caijun remained in the training ground, standing in the torrential rain.
He slowly raised his hand, watching the rainwater gather in his palm.
