Chapter 14

Chapter 14

Until Lin Wan left the ward that day, Chen Yu didn't say anything useful. He just squinted his eyes and looked gentle.

Lin Wan was helpless and went downstairs to the infusion hall to find Jiang Nuo. Jiang Nuo was leaning against a chair with a look of despair on her face, and the infusion tube was connected from her arm to the iron rod.

——Zhou Wangjing was also sitting next to him.

Lin Wan walked over and was responsible for sending the completely exhausted Jiang Nuo home after the infusion was completed.

Chen Yu has not been discharged from the hospital yet, so Lin Wan had to put the red wine he bought in the underground wine cellar. Their relationship may only end here.

The senior year of high school started early, the weather was still summer, and the temperature remained high.

Despite the scorching heat, Lin Wan carried his schoolbag.

After school started, Lin Wan and Chen Yu met even less frequently. Apart from occasionally greeting each other in the corridor on the third floor, they had almost no other communication.

Her life was back on track in an instant. Studying and going home were the only two things she needed to do.

On the one hand, Lin Wan felt fortunate, but on the other hand, she was conflicted—perhaps, she should experience more, explore more within herself, and discover more enthusiasm and passion...about youth and so on.

But she can't stop, and she won't stop.

Her life has always been like this since she was a child, and it seems difficult to make any substantial changes.

She often felt like a traveler who was constantly on the road. After determining the direction, she would rush on, regardless of wind or rain, and would not dare to slack off or pause for a moment.

Lin Wan didn't even dare to imagine whether the end of the journey would be as beautiful and free as she imagined.

Or maybe it's just a new cage.

On September 21, as night was about to fall, during a brief blue moment, Lin Wan, after asking his math teacher a question on the fourth floor, saw a group of students making a fuss on the first floor.

She lifted the sweaty hair from her forehead with one hand and held the test paper in her left hand.

"Together", "Together".

It seemed as if someone was confessing their feelings. Lin Wan, who had just solved a difficult problem, looked down from the upper floor. The young people, their faces flushed with enthusiasm, surrounded the man and woman in the middle, shouting at the top of their lungs.

The boy in the middle was tall and thin, standing with his back to Lin Wan, so his face couldn't be seen clearly. The girl was also mostly blocked by the boy, and she looked petite.

Lin Wan had never been very interested in such things. That day, he stopped as if possessed by a ghost, looked for only two or three seconds, and then returned to the classroom.

She has signed up for the IELTS speaking test in October and should prepare well.

She had sneaked out before evening self-study to ask questions, and now when she ran back most of her classmates had returned. A few were chatting, while most were concentrating on studying.

Lin Wan tiptoed back to his seat. The electric fan above his head was spinning non-stop. Even with the newly installed air conditioner, the air in such a crowded classroom was still turbid.

After finishing the day's homework and doing some brief pre-study, Lin Wan began to memorize the vocabulary for the IELTS exam.

After reciting nearly three groups, the bell for evening self-study rang, and she took the bus home. Chen Yu lived in the school dormitory after school started, and she went a different way from her.

It seems like it's just another dull day.

However, for the first time ever, she saw Lin Zhen's car outside the school gate.

Unconsciously clenching the word cards in his hand, Lin Wan greeted them calmly, opened the door, and saw another figure in school uniform.

Lin Wan subconsciously took a step back.

——It’s Chen Yu.

It was really rare. She got in the car with gritted teeth. Just as she was wondering what day it was, she got a general idea from the conversation between the two.

Someone had confessed their love for Chen Yu today, and it had become public knowledge, so frantic that the head teacher had called the parents. Lin Wan suddenly recalled looking down from the fourth floor before evening self-study. It turned out that one of the protagonists was Chen Yu.

It's just a coincidence.

Why do so many girls like Chen Yu? They are all little brats who may not even have a clear definition of "like", but they can shout out their love with passion and devote their most selfless and pure emotions to others without reservation.

Not sure whether it was smart or stupid, Lin Wan thought expressionlessly.

On the way home, Lin Wan could always feel Chen Yu's gaze. He looked at her in the dark, as if he wanted to say something.

Lin Wan didn't look back at him.

Now that I think about it, Chen Yu must have tried many times to establish effective contact with me again during my senior year of high school, but during that time, I was so focused on my future and visa that I ignored the olive branch he extended to me.

Lin Wan never slacked off during any holiday, even during the Spring Festival. He sat quietly at his seat preparing for the exam.

She had to make preparations for both scenarios. If she couldn't go abroad, she would apply to the school farthest from here, far away from the Lin family.

At that time, Chen Yu was gentle and soft, and would knock on her door at night to give her hot milk.

A smooth hand handed over the steaming milk. When Lin Wan received it for the first time, she was actually a little frightened and confused.

But as he gave her more and more gifts, Lin Wan got used to it. Later, Chen Yu also showed her a lot of care, but one day, it all came to an abrupt end.

During that time, Lin Wan had just completed her visa application and was anxiously awaiting the admission result from the UK. She did not delve into Chen Yu's sudden cold attitude.

But from then on, the relationship between the two became colder day by day.

Looking back now, she realized she hadn't really had much serious communication with Chen Yu. They'd only gotten to know each other briefly the summer he'd first arrived, and since then, they'd been just casual acquaintances. Even though there were many unfinished business that summer—but ending it without a result was also a kind of ending.

Lin Wan always told herself to look forward, but she couldn't help looking back. She thought that maybe it was the emotional repression during her senior year of high school that caused Chen Yu to have such strong and confusing feelings for her, making the subsequent development of events completely different from her imagination.

Once again in July, Chen Yu celebrated his second birthday at the Lin family.

Lin Wan received her university acceptance letter as early as May - the same university that Xu Su wanted to apply to, thus fulfilling her wish to study in the UK.

She was very relaxed this summer vacation. After a simple study, she lay at home and played the game she wanted to play before.

It was a leisurely day, but Lin Wan felt inexplicably anxious.

She happened to think of Chen Yu's birthday, or because she happened to want to add some wine to her juice.

After drinking from the cup for a long while, Lin Wan decided to give this bottle of wine to Chen Yu today. After all, he had forgotten about it for a whole year. If he forgot about it any more, he probably wouldn't be able to give it to Chen Yu in his lifetime.

It just so happened that Chen Yu was underage and couldn't drink alcohol last year, but today he turned 18 and had the opportunity to try the expensive red wine of his choice.

But it can’t be too much, Lin Wan thought dazedly, and picked up the red wine and went upstairs.

I don't think I added much alcohol? Lin Wan took two hesitant steps back and picked up the white bottle at hand: 40% vodka.

hiss.

It seems quite high.

Lin Wan thought quietly, feeling only a little dizzy, and it shouldn't be a big deal.

Because he was worried about spilling juice on the carpet, Lin Wan put down his wine glass, walked upstairs with the bottle in both hands, and knocked on the door of Chen Yu's room.

It seemed like they hadn't talked face to face like this for a long time. Lin Wan touched the hair by his ear uncomfortably.

Chen Yu's attitude was obviously a little distant. A few months ago, he was admitted to the junior class of a university in Beijing because of a math competition he won.

Coincidentally, the two of them were suddenly standing on the same level.

Chen Yu looked at the girl in front of the door, her soft black hair hanging in front of her forehead, and the books on the desk fluttered in the wind. He didn't say anything.

"Your birthday present." Lin Wan shook the wine in her hands and told him in her happiest voice at the time.

As she spoke, she naturally squeezed past Chen Yu and into his room.

Of course, Chen Yu didn't even think about stopping her. He looked at Lin Wan, who was obviously a little too excited, and his fingertips kept tapping the edge of the door frame.

He stared at Lin Wan's movements with some surprise.
