Chapter 19

Chapter 19

It should have been just an ordinary winter night, with a dull sky and sunshine. One month before the first exam, everything seemed to have suddenly become slack.

Like other high schools, Jiangzhong has a radio club that plays music and sends greetings to classmates through an old speaker in the evening.

This was very common, and all the students were used to it. Even if they were walking down the street and suddenly heard black rap on the radio, the most explosive and dark kind, most people would think it was extremely normal.

After all, youth always has some restless factors burning in the blood, waiting to break free from the constraints and wanting to show itself in front of everyone in a fierce and aggressive manner.

And on this day, someone confessed his love through the campus radio - it was a passionate girl.

That was Lin Wan memorizing the political exam points on the rooftop. The cold wind blew across his cheeks, as if it could leave deep scars.

She was holding her breath while studying, when suddenly a clear voice of a girl appeared in her ears, telling her love with a desperate momentum.

The girl said, "Chen Yu, I have liked you for a long time. I know that my confession will end in vain. You don't need to know who I am, what I look like, or anything about me."

The girl paused for a moment, as if someone rushed in and tried to stop her from doing anything chaotic.

The noisy sound of electric current spreads through every corner of the campus. I believe that everyone who is doing anything at this moment will stop what they are doing at this moment.

Witness the girl's youthful recklessness, either actively or passively.

Someone's accusing voice was faintly heard, and the girl said the last words.

"Chen Yu, I really like you."

The microphone was hung up, and after a long and sharp sound, the power was completely disconnected.

Lin Wan was holding a book on the rooftop, pursing her dry lips.

That evening, the punishment for this incident came down quickly. Chen Yu was required to stay at school for a week, and his parents were asked to take him home to give him proper guidance and help him adjust his mindset.

The girl who confessed was asked to suspend classes for three days and go home to reflect on her behavior.

Public opinion on campus immediately became heated, with all sorts of rumors flying everywhere. Some even bet that the two might have actually had a relationship.

Young hearts are restless.

That night, Chen Yuzhui followed Lin Wan back home. He seemed to enjoy following her.

Lin Wan rented a small house near the school to prepare for the exam. Chen Yu didn't want to go back to the Lin family, so he followed her to the exam preparation room.

The river has a history of nearly eighty years, and the residential buildings next to it are of similar age, extremely old, and have a damp smell.

Chen Yu said he didn't want to go home. Lin Wan tried to persuade him, but he said that even if he went home, there was no one at home.

So Lin Wan agreed. After all, there were extra beddings in her room, so it was no problem for Chen Yu to spend a few nights on the floor.

She took him through the snack street, which was filled with the smell of fireworks. The bright soft yellow lights were particularly dazzling in the cold winter night.

After passing the snack street, there will be a long night road with only a few street lamps emitting cold light.

Chen Yu's hand passed through Lin Wan's tightly held backpack strap and touched Lin Wan's cold hand which was tightly grasping the backpack strap.

Lin Wan's fingers gripped the straps of her schoolbag harder and harder, and she couldn't even explain why.

"Sister." Chen Yu called from behind.

Lin Wan responded.

"I'm scared." Chen Yu replied with a certain bewitching tone.

What are you afraid of? Those rumors?

Lin Wan thought of it immediately.

Chen Yu's voice was a little hoarse, not sure if it was because of the cold wind or fear.

He moved gently but with full force as he stuffed his hand into Lin Wan's.

His hand was warmer than Lin Wan's, and the heat was closer. Logically speaking, Lin Wan should have quickly moved away and immediately draw a clear line between herself and Chen Yu.

But perhaps that winter night was simply too cold, and the brief warmth was too deceptive.

Just the fingertips touching doesn't mean anything - it's just, holding hands.

Lin Wan loosened the bag she had been holding tightly all the way.

The cold wind blew past the two of them, swaying the trees and causing the shadows on the ground to change.

In the darkness, they were almost holding hands.

Lin Wan came to his senses at that moment, quickly withdrew his hand, and tried his best not to be greedy for that touch of warmth.

She might be crazy.

The girl's nails were trimmed to a full, round shape; they didn't hurt when they brushed against her palm, but rather itched. In the shadows, Chen Yu's Adam's apple rolled, and he looked at his newly separated palms, his expression rarely showing aggression.

The fingers separated and the distance between them increased.

"How's your preparation for the math competition going?"

Lin Wan picked up a random topic, hoping to dilute the strange and ambiguous atmosphere. After she finished speaking, she buried most of her face back in her scarf.

"fine."

The two shadows kept intertwining, separating and intersecting on the cold and hard road surface as they passed the eighth street light.

"But I thought you would ask me other questions." Chen Yu said.

"Hmm? What's the problem?" Lin Wan's face was still buried in the scarf.

"For example, ask me what I think about confessing my feelings to that girl." Chen Yu stared at Lin Wan's expression.

Thoughts? Lin Wan's previously steady heartbeat suddenly faltered, and he felt like he was being thrown high into the air.

"If I tell you, sister, will you let me live with you for the next seven days?"

His voice paused, and he took a deep breath, which collided with the cold air and formed a small white mist.

"Sister, I want to live with you."

Lin Wan's grip suddenly tightened. Chen Yu pulled her hand up and pressed it against his face.

The back of Lin Wan's hand was cold, but Chen Yu didn't care.

"No." Lin Wan said calmly.

The old door lock made a "click" sound, and the rusty iron door was pushed open from the outside, making a creaking sound.

In the dim light due to insufficient voltage, Lin Wan walked into the room with Chen Yu.

The floor of the house was made of raw cement, not even tiles, and looked cold and hard. There were only a few rooms: a living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom.

Lin Wan doesn't want to live in the dormitory, but wants to live close by, so this is the best choice.

Chen Yu put down his schoolbag in the small living room and began to tour the room without Lin Wan's guidance.

After Lin Wan found the bedding, he went to wash up and then started studying.

There was only one desk in the room. If Chen Yu wanted to do his homework, he had to bring a plastic stool and squeeze on the desk with her.

The two of them were just writing their respective topics in a room with unstable heating.

Because the space was narrow, their elbows accidentally touched each other. As soon as they touched and separated, the rough fabric of the school uniform made a slight sound when it rubbed against the elbows, and the thick clothes even rubbed their skin a little painfully.

Lin Wan tightened his grip on the pen and tried hard to control his gaze so as not to look at Chen Yu.

Yu Guangzhong and Chen Yu seemed unaware, their bony hands continuing to hold the pen and write mathematical formulas on the draft paper.

Lin Wan's heart tightened a little, and he didn't know what emotion he was feeling.

After waking up, Lin Wan did not get up immediately. He was surprised that he suddenly dreamed about the previous events.

To be honest, that time was not comfortable, but it was good enough.

After sleeping in his underwear, Lin Wan sat up with a slight backache. This bed was too hard, rock-hard, and the thin mattress barely provided any cushioning.

Outside the window is a vast expanse of blue sky, very light in color with a hint of gray. The room faces east, and you can see a vast expanse of ocean and beach.

Liuchuan was a small town with no formal hotels. There were a few cramped inns with poor locations and a poor environment. So, after comprehensive consideration, Lin Wan followed Chen Yu into a rather dilapidated two-story building—Chen Yu's former home.

The two searched for the stairs at home for a long time, and finally found out that in order to save space, the family did not build stairs according to common sense, but placed a ladder in the corner for people to go to the second floor.

After a quick wash, Lin Wan made some simple arrangements for what he would do on the first day.

First she needed a pair of pajamas and a brand new mattress.

On the way here, she saw a lingerie store. She thought, "Maybe they sell pajamas. I'd go check it out." The photography crew would arrive in two days, and they'd still have to clean and decorate the house. She could also buy some tools while she was there.

Or maybe just hire a part-time worker? Lin Wan immediately rejected this idea, as it would be bad for the company's image.

After making a simple shopping list of food, tools, and pajamas, making sure nothing was left out, Lin Wan knocked on Chen Yu's door.

Chen Yu hadn't gotten up yet. He was lying lazily on the bed, looking different from usual.

"Xiao Yu, I've made a list." Lin Wan raised the small piece of paper in her hand: "Would you like to go buy some with me first?"

The note fluttered in her hand like a fluttering white butterfly.

Liuchuan was much quieter than Jiangcheng. There were no bustling crowds of people or the constant stream of car lights. Instead, there was a certain kind of reassuring tranquility.

The town was not big, so they walked there.

The two walked one after the other, and Chen Yu still liked to walk behind Lin Wan.
