Chapter 33
Their eyes met, and at the junction of light and darkness, Lin Wan saw Chen Yu's eyelids tremble twice.
His gaze fell on Lin Wan's face, stayed for a moment, and then gradually moved downwards, straightforward and naked.
The air seemed to suddenly become thinner, and Lin Wan's fingers stiffened slightly, her knuckles turning slightly white against the fabric of her dress.
When he raised his eyes again, they were full of teasing.
"Half an hour has passed, and now you..."
When Chen Yu looked at her, the tone of Tang Wanlin's voice rang in Lin Wan's ears again and again.
"Make a three."
Lin Wan uttered these three words softly. Although the sound was short and small, it was so heavy.
Lin Wan covered her face with her hands. She tried to please Tang Wanlin, begging her to give her a little love and care.
When she was little, Lin Wan even wished she was stupid enough so that she could not understand the expression on Tang Wanlin's face and freely dream of being loved.
She asked herself to put a lasso on him, so she would put a lasso on Chen Yu and show him.
A base and undisguised desire.
She walked towards Chen Yu barefoot, one step, two steps.
Lin Wan couldn't explain why she did that, she just did it. Chen Yu looked slightly surprised.
She hung the tie loosely around Chen Yu's neck, and her fingertips stroked across his neck, causing a shudder.
Chen Yu bit the cigarette and looked down at her movements.
"I didn't expect my sister would do something like this."
The cigarette reached his fingertips, and the word "sister" was full of irony.
Lin Wan cornered Chen Yu, looked up at him, and then quickly looked away.
"Yeah?"
She answered casually, ignoring his slightly sarcastic tone.
Chen Yu bit the cigarette and raised his hand when Lin Wan's face was closest to him.
Lin Wan subconsciously wanted to dodge, but he wiped away the wet stains on her cheeks.
Chen Yu's hands seemed to have calluses and looked a little rough.
He lowered his eyes and stared at her. They were so close that Lin Wan could see Chen Yu's Adam's apple rolling slightly.
Lin Wan's hands froze for a moment, and after a pause, she continued her previous thought. She grabbed the two ends of the tie and tied them in a knot.
The buttons she had unbuttoned were still hanging loose, and her skin was so pale it was blinding.
Lin Wan wrapped one hand around Chen Yu's tie, and with the thumb and index finger of the other hand, pinched the cigarette between Chen Yu's lips, slowly pulled it out, and then extinguished it in the trash can next to him.
She pressed her thumb down hard, and there was a slight "hiss" sound, like a very light sigh, accompanied by white smoke rising, and the last spark was extinguished.
Lin Wan stared at the lipstick mark on Chen Yu's shirt and slowly pulled back her hand that was tugging at his tie. Actually, she didn't use much force; Chen Yu almost couldn't wait to move closer.
Tang Wanlin, look.
It is not difficult to trap Chen Yu.
Chen Yu's once neat shirt was now covered in wrinkles. Lin Wan tugged at the corner of his shirt, unsure whether the wrinkles were natural or something she had created.
——But, it doesn’t matter anymore.
In the darkness, in a dark corner where the cold white light of the bathroom could not reach, Lin Wan raised her face and met Chen Yu's lips.
Amidst the smell of disinfectant, Lin Wan could vaguely smell the bitter taste of burnt food on his fingertips, which became stronger as his lips and tongue intertwined.
I could faintly hear the sound of guests laughing and chatting in the distance. And closer, the faucet in the sink seemed to be loose, and water was still dripping down.
All the noise quickly collapsed, almost disappearing. All that remained in my ears was the soft clacking of lips and teeth, and the unbearable gasps in my throat.
The floor was cold, and Lin Wan stepped on Chen Yu's leather shoes.
Their breaths intertwined, and I didn't know how long it took.
In the slightly confused atmosphere, Lin Wan felt Chen Yu move. He reached out and put his arm around her waist, with some force.
Lin Wan wasn't even sure if there would be any marks left there when he woke up tomorrow morning.
One step, two steps.
Lin Wan was forced to retreat backwards until her lower back hit the sink, and the wetness seeped through her clothes to her waist.
Chen Yu wiped the sink dry with a tissue and put Lin Wan on it.
Lin Wan still held Chen Yu's tie in her hand.
Lin Wan sat on the sink and the two continued to kiss.
The saliva slid down from the corner of his lips before he could swallow it. Chen Yu stared at the reflective wet stain, his pupils shining black.
There were sudden footsteps outside the door, and the sound of conversation was getting closer and closer.
Finally, at some point, Lin Wan heard someone talking. She was so frightened that she didn't know what to do. Her fingers tightly grasped Chen Yu's sleeve.
She barely pulled her mind away from the splendid sensory experience, gently bit Chen Yu's tongue, and pushed the man who was almost pressing on her away.
Chen Yu stared at her with his dark eyes, with some dissatisfaction in his eyes.
Lin Wan placed her hands on Chen Yu's shoulders, her clear eyes seemed to contain a pool of spring water.
"Take me away." Lin Wan's lips were close to Chen Yu's ear.
As the voices got closer,
Chen Yu's body froze for a moment. Then, he lifted her up and held her sideways, one arm passing through Lin Wan's knees and the other around her waist.
Lin Wan was as obedient as a cat, resting her head on Chen Yu's chest. The lines of her shoulders, which had always appeared straight and firm, softened.
She was practically curled up, clinging to the almost false warmth.
Lin Wan listened to Chen Yu's rapid heartbeat, without a trace of joy in her heart.
She made her decision.
Chen Yu threw Lin Wan onto the bed, and her warm body instantly sank into the bed, even the black fishtail skirt was covered with white sheets.
Lin Wan's foot hit Chen Yu's shoulder. Chen Yu grabbed Lin Wan's calf.
She likes to see Chen Yu wearing a white shirt and thinks that white shirts suit him best.
The white shirt fell to the ground, covered with a light dust.
There are new green leaves growing by the window, and the summer evening breeze is blowing through the green buds.
The two of them did not cross the line.
Finally, Chen Yu put on the shoes that Lin Wan had just dropped.
Just like Cinderella, Lin Wan looked at the man half-kneeling in front of her, putting on her shoes calmly.
If it were the summer of a year ago, Lin Wan would never have imagined that things would develop like this. She really didn't know Chen Yu's true character.
If Chen Yu didn't speak, Lin Wan would have thought a year ago that he was shy and unfamiliar with the environment, so he didn't dare to speak.
A year later, Lin Wan finally understood: Chen Yu didn't speak because he was impatient; or, he simply felt it was unnecessary.
Lin Wan watched as her feet were being caressed in the palm of someone's hand, and she slowly put on her high heels.
At the end of the Cinderella story, the prince and princess lived happily together and had a happy life.
A happy life, what an alluring word it is.
Everyone is pursuing happiness, but everyone misses happiness.
People who can barely make ends meet pursue survival, poor people mostly crave money, those who have some money begin to desire power, and when they have power they hope to realize their self-worth.
According to Maslow's theory of needs, people often develop new desires after reaching a certain stage.
In the eyes of others, someone like Lin Wan could barely be called a wealthy lady, and the inheritance would be enough to provide her with a comfortable life for the rest of her life. It was hard to understand why she was so persistent in pursuing so-called love.
Isn’t it the most important thing to live your life to the fullest?
However, no one can live their life without a trace of emotion. Countless people who pursue money often start to pursue so-called true love at the end of their lives.
True love, what a ridiculous word.
"Sister, you did a great job."
Chen Yu's kisses fell on Lin Wan's waist, soft and dense, with a burning breath.
Lin Wan came back to her senses and stroked his hair. She liked to hear people compliment her.
Sometimes, she would even do something she was unwilling to do just for the praise of others.
This discovery startled her, and Lin Wan unconsciously thought back to the past. It was the same thing all over again.
Including my recent almost reckless emotions that barely qualify as love.
She covered her face with her hands in shame.
It was only at this moment that she finally understood the purpose of all her past actions, including studying, going abroad, and playing the piano. All of them were aimed at gaining recognition from her family's elders.
Even if I only heard one word of praise from them, there was not a single word.
After Jiang Yuexing's death, Lin Wan had asked this question countless times in her studio.
"Why, I got first place in the exam? But no one praised me, even just a word."
As for the reason behind her so-called sneaking out of the country, perhaps disappearing for a while like this could give those who ignored her a chance to reflect a little.
In the past, I was stupid and hopeful. I tried hard to please others, but in the end I ended up like a clown and never got what I wanted.
She is so stupid.
Obviously, she can control her own life, but she relies on guessing other people's preferences and expects so-called care.
Lin Wan reached out and pushed Chen Yu away.
The moment she recognized herself, she realized that, apart from Chen Yu's appearance, he was obedient and partial to her.
In fact, she had never really known Chen Yu. She was completely unaware of his past and even his current situation.
It is her subjective idea to wishfully think that having a younger brother is a good thing.
Apart from the physical contact, he had little doubt that he was actually a stranger.
Does he really exist?
Perhaps it was just my wishful thinking. After all, I was a little too attached to my family's love.
Therefore, he imagined a younger brother. Lin Wan lowered his eyes.
She was almost unable to distinguish what was the real world.
Chen Yu raised his head, the moonlight sprinkled on his face, and the half-bright and half-dark face gave him an inexplicable sense of beauty, like a siren singing on the sea.
Lin Wan touched his face. Chen Yu was real, and she could feel his breath.
Then why, I know nothing about him.
"Lin Wan." Chen Yu called her name.
Lin Wan responded to him sleepwalkingly, Chen Yu knew almost everything about her, but why did she know nothing about him.
Even the fact that he was not an orphan was only revealed from Tang Wanlin in such a humiliating way.
Her own self-righteous speculations were like confetti falling from the sky, pressing the humiliation firmly upon her.
One year and fifty-three days had passed since the first meeting with Chen Yu. This was the first time that Lin Wan had truly looked at Chen Yu.
——Not as an element, nor as a single character who can say "I like you" at any time.
Why hadn't I realized this before?
I treated everything as a task in a game. Specific actions would cause specific reactions from the characters, which would then affect me.
She has always only cared about the part that affects her, but never cared about the person.
What kind of person is that person, and why would he behave like that after what she did.
Lin Wan knew nothing. To her, the world was like a huge plane.
With this thought in mind, Lin Wan looked at Chen Yu again. The different perspective allowed her to see Chen Yu clearly and completely.
A young man with lust in his eyes, a person who conceals things at every step, a person who habitually hides his personality under a gentle appearance, and a person who always claims to like him.
Lin Wan integrated all the pieces of the personality puzzle, but was still unable to piece together a three-dimensional Chen Yu.
In his own eyes, he seemed to be just an overly thin and flat character.
She reached out and patted the space beside her, motioning Chen Yu to sit on the bed next to her.
Chen Yu didn't move, but narrowed his eyes slightly and looked at Lin Wan.
Lin Wan responded to his gaze calmly.
She felt that just now, she seemed to have crossed a huge hurdle, a hurdle that had troubled her for almost half of her life.
She finally freed herself from the self-pity, self-reproach and narcissism.
Lin Wan began to try to look at the people and things around her comprehensively, and she freed herself from the cage she had locked herself in.
She is not as miserable as she imagined. Others have the right to dislike her, so why should she trap herself in an iron cage of self-humiliation and self-admiration?
Lin Wan looked at Chen Yu, as if seeing him for the first time.
Finally, the adjective that came to her mind was no longer the label-like adjective "as gentle as bamboo."
He was half-kneeling in front of her, his hands on his legs, his eyes red and his expression extremely restrained.
In her eyes, Chen Yu's expression didn't seem to change much, but his Adam's apple rolled slightly against his tense neckline. The rise and fall of his chest was deliberately lengthened and slowed, as if every breath was resisting an invisible pressure.
What kind of person is he, and what kind of person am I?
"Chen Yu, what kind of person am I?" Lin Wan asked him, withdrawing her hand from his face and propping herself up against the bed sheet.
The party that night was so long that it seemed like it would never end.
"I should be a very strange person. Unkind, but occasionally very enthusiastic." Lin Wan tapped his chin with his index finger in thought.
Chen Yu looked at her expression for a long time, then stood up and sat down next to Lin Wan, where she had just pointed.
"You're not weird," he said. "You're just a little too eager."
