Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Lin Wan sat on the velvet sofa and picked up the snacks in front of her.

In fact, she seldom went out to buy things. All her clothes were measured by a specialist and delivered directly to her wardrobe. Lin Wan could just pick whatever she wanted to wear.

Lin Wan found it a bit novel when he went out shopping by chance.

"Does this suit you?"

Jiang Nuo asked Lin Wan while holding a little black dress. The black dress was hanging on the hanger, and Lin Wan could not see its complete appearance clearly.

Lin Wan hesitated: "Let me put it on, and you take a look?"

She still remembered the principle of "Practice makes perfect" that she had memorized last night.

Jiang Nuo looked at the skirts, then looked at Lin Wan, and picked out a few more skirts for her to try on.

The curtain of the fitting room was opened and closed, just like changing clothes for a rag doll when one was a child. By the end of trying on clothes, Lin Wan just wanted to lie on the sofa, while Jiang Nuo was still full of energy.

Jiang Nuo held a very shiny luxury brand necklace around her neck for a while, then asked as if remembering something, "Wanwan, don't you have a new brother? Why haven't you heard about throwing a welcome party for Chen Yu?"

Obviously not satisfied with the chain, Jiang Nuo put it down and replaced it with another one.

Lin Wan leaned his head halfway on the sofa. When he heard this question, he sat up slightly.

"I haven't heard my dad talk about this matter, and he seems to be very busy with work recently."

The time that Lin Wan saw Lin Zhen at home was very few.

Jiang Nuo chose a necklace and asked the service staff behind her to help her put it on. Lin Wan noticed that Jiang Nuo's expression in the mirror became extremely subtle at this moment.

Jiang Nuo opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but closed it again.

"Just say whatever you want to say." Lin Wan was a little annoyed by her little actions.

Jiang Nuo touched her favorite necklace and decided to temporarily forget Lao Jiang's advice of "the more you talk, the more mistakes you make" and charge forward for love.

"I think your brother is very complicated. He looks well-behaved, but he seems to be hiding a lot of things."

Jiang Nuo paused and added, "I'm worried that he will compete with you for the family property."

She spoke very clearly, hoping that her sisters who were only interested in studying would be on guard. After all, most people adopt children of this age just to give them a reputation.

Jiang Nuo felt a little uneasy after saying this, and kept observing Lin Wan's expression through the mirror in front of him. When he found that Lin Wan didn't show any anger or impulsiveness, Jiang Nuo's facial expression relaxed slightly.

Fight for family property and reputation.

In fact, she didn't care that much about those things. She knew that her grandparents didn't like her, and she also knew that they would rather force Lin Zhen to adopt a boy who was not related to her by blood than meet her.

Simply because she is the daughter of an artist, and artists mean rebellious and untamed. They prefer people who are under their control and completely obey their orders.

Someone like Chen Yu, skilled at hiding his true nature, was just what they wanted. He didn't even need to compete with them; the two elders of the Lin family would naturally offer everything to him—to their beloved grandson.

The rows of expensive clothes in front of Lin Wan all went through several processes before being pushed in front of her, which is why they are so dazzling and charming.

And what about Chen Yu?

She wondered what kind of experience lay behind that natural disguise of obedience.

Jiuan Lane.

Chen Yu casually crushed the can in his hand and threw it into the street trash can.

With a crisp sound, it hit the target completely.

It had rained last night, and the alley was wet. Even the black electric wires tangled between the railings were dripping water, which "pat-pat-pat" fell on the water-green leaves.

"Brother Yu, that group of people came again this morning. They wanted to take away Yaya's house and even kicked Yaya's puppy to death."

The person who spoke had a childish voice with an obvious crying tone, and it seemed that he would squat on the ground and burst into tears in the next second.

In sharp contrast to his childish voice is his appearance, which makes him look particularly formidable - dreadlocks, tattoos, and shiny silver ornaments on his ears.

It seems that the strength disguised on the outside can eliminate the real weakness inside.

Huang Qiangqiang followed Chen Yu closely, staring at his expression, not daring to move his eyes.

He knew that Brother Yu was adopted by a good family. The girl standing between Brother Yu and them a few days ago was wearing clothes that were obviously not of the same quality as theirs and were obviously very expensive.

She regarded them as bullies, but perhaps the bullies were not them, but the girl's subconscious prejudice.

At that moment, Brother Yu seemed to be completely away from them.

Chen Yu rubbed the back of his neck and let out a sigh: "Where is Yaya now?"

He wore a white short-sleeved shirt and army green overalls, his short hair casually styled, and his hands in his pockets. His simple, even casual, attire still made him stand out in the crowd.

Chen Yu didn't sleep well last night.

"She's still at home." Huang Qiangqiang's voice became smaller and smaller, and it was obvious that he had no confidence in his arrangements.

If Lin Wan were here, she would definitely recognize at a glance: Huang Qiangqiang is the boy who put his arm around Xu Su a few days ago.

"Is Yaya's mother still working?" Chen Yu frowned slightly and walked into the slightly dim corridor.

The sensor light, which had been in disrepair for a long time, was no longer working properly. Even if someone walked by, it would not light up. It buzzed twice and went completely dark before it could light up.

The corridors are barely illuminated by natural light.

"Yes, she is still cleaning the windows in the hanging basket. She can't come down for the time being..." Huang Qiangqiang responded shiveringly.

Huang Qiangqiang recalled the dead puppy he saw in the stairwell that morning. In such humid summer air, his body couldn't help but shiver.

Chocolate had clearly come to his house yesterday to beg for meat, still alive and kicking, but today he was kicked to death. Yaya's house was also in a mess, with broken glass all over the floor. Even the music box that Yaya usually took the most care of was smashed to the ground and scattered.

"Okay, I got it." After listening to Huang Qiangqiang's words, Chen Yu had a general understanding of the incident.

The old residential building seemed short and cramped, with windows only at the end of the corridor. Thirteen households lived on either side of the less than twenty-meter stretch. The rooms were poorly soundproofed, and as I walked along, I could hear everything.

The two walked all the way to the end of the corridor. Huang Qiangqiang knocked on the door of room 414 and shouted inside: "Yaya, Brother Yu is here."

This shout was so loud that many people who had walked past the room poked their heads out, but they didn't dare to speak. They just looked at Chen Yu standing under the old-fashioned lampshade, the warm yellow light illuminating his facial features.

Chen Yu was obviously completely accustomed to these gazes. He lowered his eyes slightly and looked at the door in front of him.

There were footsteps in room 414, as if someone was tidying something up. About a minute and a half later, the door opened a little.

Along with the tattered dress, a pair of bright eyes appeared before my eyes. The eye sockets were completely red and swollen, and it was obvious that the woman had been crying for a long time.

"Huang Qiang, I told you not to let Chen Yu come again." Yaya scolded Huang Qiangqiang, and the gap was closed even smaller, obviously not wanting people to see her current appearance.

Huang Qiangqiang rubbed his nose and didn't dare to say anything more. Yaya was the one with the hottest temper among the group of people living in Jiuan Lane. It was only after Brother Yu moved in that someone was able to control her.

"Open the door." Chen Yu said succinctly. He turned to glance at the dozens of heads that had popped out. As soon as they made contact, they quickly retreated back inside. Once all the doors were closed, the corridor suddenly felt much larger.

"Brother Yu, just..." Yaya was still resisting stubbornly.

Chen Yu looked at her without any emotion.

Yaya forced herself to raise the corners of her lips and made a smile that was uglier than crying: "Okay, Brother Yu." She knew that Chen Yu's emotions were not directed at her at the moment.

It was obvious that someone had cleaned the house. The floor and tabletop were barely feelable, but a large piece of window glass was broken, revealing the completely rusted security window on the outside.

Yaya watched Chen Yu checking the room, and her chest felt a little tight when she breathed.

"Brother Yu, the chocolates are gone, and the music box you gave me... is gone too."

Yaya almost whispered as she was also wearing extremely exaggerated Gothic clothes. The skull necklace around her neck had been worn for half a year and was faintly rusted, with some color rubbing onto the clothes on her chest.

There was no time to comfort her. Chen Yu asked directly: "Did you take any photos of the scene?"

Yaya nodded quickly, handed over the broken phone, and showed Chen Yu the photos on it.

Huang Qiangqiang also leaned over to look at the photo. Seeing the mess on the floor, he gritted his teeth and asked, "Did they drop the phone too? He's fucking crazy. Why doesn't he go to your dad for the money he owes? The next time his mom dares to come here again, come find me."

"There are six of them. What's the use of me looking for you?" Yaya said to him coldly, and she was obviously in a much better mood.

Huang Qiangqiang's aura visibly waned, but he didn't give up and added, "Xia Zhi can protect you, so why can't I? We have so many friends here. If we come together, they'll be the ones to be scared."

He slapped himself as soon as he finished speaking. He shouldn't have mentioned that. The puppy, Xiazhi, had been with Yaya for eight years and only died this morning. He quickly slid to his knees: "Sister, I was wrong. Go ahead and scold me."

Yaya didn't pay much attention to the first half of his words: "Friend, you call those people friends? Wake up, they approached us because they can make money from Brother Yu. At this critical moment, who would be willing to take on such a mess."

There was silence in the room.

Huang Qiangqiang folded his hands in front of his chest, not knowing what he was thinking.

"Do you know those people who came to collect debts?" After looking at all the photos, Chen Yu returned the phone to Yaya.

Yaya bit her lower lip, her face pale as she nodded: "Two familiar faces, four unfamiliar faces."

"Go report the case first. Don't stay here for the next few days. Find a hotel with your aunt." Chen Yu transferred money to Yaya and said, "Don't be afraid. Everything will be fine."

It was a rather blunt comfort, but surprisingly useful.

The lights outside the window came on and the rain started falling again.

The plum rain season in the south is like this: once the plum rain season ends, the weather will get hotter and hotter. If we wait another month, everyone in the city will be living in the shadows of shutters.

The moment Lin Wan walked out of the mall, she still felt deeply doubtful about her decision to buy that backless black dress, even though Jiang Nuo repeatedly assured her that it was absolutely beautiful, and even used a series of famous idioms such as "sinking fish and falling geese", "humiliating the moon and flowers", "fair as a startled swan" and so on.

She still felt a little uneasy inside, like a child suddenly wearing her mother's jewelry necklace.

Lin Wan urgently needed to find someone to give her a more objective evaluation, or more directly, so she wanted Brother Xu Su to help her take a look.

However, just this thought made Lin Wan nervous and embarrassed.

On the way home, Lin Wan subconsciously bit her nails, trying to find a suitable and non-obtrusive way to ask Xu Su.

Rather than asking whether the clothes fit her, she actually wanted to talk to Xu Su.

Lin Wan felt a little hot and put his hand on his cheek.
