Mu Chenshuang was shocked. She turned around and stared at Fu Junheng, frowning as she asked, "When did this happen?"
Fu Junheng replied, "It was today that the Empress spoke disrespectfully to the Emperor."
Mu Chenshuang lowered her eyes and withdrew her gaze, but even so, did Feng Guche disregard the Shen family's reputation and actually confine the Empress to her quarters?
"The Empress doesn't seem like such a reckless person. What could be the reason?"
“Recently, after court sessions, the emperor has been heading straight to Yunxi Palace. Court officials who want to see him have to wait for several hours. I estimate that after a while, the emperor won’t even want to attend court anymore.”
Yunxi Palace is the palace where the Imperial Noble Consort currently resides.
"So the Empress went to offer advice and angered the Emperor. The Emperor has become so incompetent. This Imperial Noble Consort is really not simple. It seems that the mother and son have quite a lot of ambition."
If even the Empress could be confined to her quarters for offering advice, then the only person she could speak to the Emperor was the Empress Dowager.
"And what about the Empress Dowager? She knows about the Empress's confinement."
"The Empress Dowager's health is deteriorating day by day, and she no longer concerns herself with state affairs. She is currently recuperating in the palace."
Mu Chenshuang's eyes darkened.
Fu Junheng guessed her thoughts and said, "I plan to go to the palace to see the Empress Dowager."
"The Empress Dowager's health is indeed very weak, but if she follows the prescription I gave her, she can live for another three or four years without any problem. There is no need for her to stay in the palace and not see outsiders to recuperate. There is indeed a problem with this matter."
It's likely that Feng Mo Ran's people have already taken control of the court.
Fu Junheng didn't say anything more. "I'll go with you tomorrow."
"But I am currently confined to my residence by my father and cannot leave the manor."
Judging from Lord Mu's current attitude, he hasn't told her about what's happening in the palace, clearly not wanting her to get involved.
"If you want to leave, this Marquis's residence can't stop you."
"But we can't just go out like this in broad daylight."
Fu Junheng simply said, "I'll take you out tomorrow morning."
Mu Chenshuang didn't ask any further questions.
After a brief silence, Mu Chenshuang asked, "Did you see the letter I sent you before?"
Fu Junheng tightened his grip on her waist, burying his face in her neck. "Your things will arrive in another half month."
Mu Chenshuang remained silent.
After a while.
She asked, "When are you setting off?"
Fu Junheng replied, "It should take about the next few days."
The words were spoken.
Mu Chenshuang felt a tightness in her chest, an indescribable discomfort and oppression. The words she wanted to ask were stuck in her throat and she couldn't get them out.
The space fell silent.
They were so quiet that the only sound they could hear was each other breathing.
Fu Junheng didn't say anything more, and just held her like that.
Mu Chenshuang leaned against the man's chest without making any movement. After a long while, only the sound of the man's even breathing could be heard, as if he had fallen asleep.
"Fu Junheng!"
Mu Chenshuang called out softly.
All that could be heard was a low hum from the man, as if he were extremely sleepy.
Hearing the man's tired voice, Mu Chenshuang didn't ask any further questions, but simply said, "Go to sleep first!"
However, even being held by the man like this, she felt no sleepiness.
She originally thought she could accept Fu Junheng's departure honestly, but when the moment actually came, she didn't expect her heart to ache so much, as if a huge rock was pressing on her chest, making it hard for her to breathe.
She didn't know how long she slept that night before finally falling asleep.
When I woke up the next day.
When Mu Chenshuang opened her eyes and saw the decor in front of her, she instantly became alert and sat up abruptly. This was not her boudoir. Upon closer inspection, it was not Fu Junheng's Yaoguang Residence.
At this moment.
The sound of a door opening came from outside.
Mu Chenshuang glanced sideways and could vaguely see the man's tall and slender figure through the curtains. Then, the curtains were lifted by a hand as if carved from jade.
Fu Junheng looked at the woman who had sat up, his expression gentle. "You're awake."
Mu Chenshuang looked at him, "When did you bring me here?"
There was a distance between the Marquis's residence and Yaoguang Residence, and she felt nothing at all as the man led her there.
Fu Junheng sat down, reached out and picked up a strand of hair from the woman's chest, smelled it, and said softly, "It's probably around 3 AM. Since you're awake, get up and wash up."
