Chapter 698 Mother and Son Reunion

"You may all leave." Feng Xilan strode into the main hall with her head held high and spoke indifferently. The maids and servants who had been serving her immediately withdrew respectfully.

Having been confined to her quarters for nearly half a month, the Empress was in a daze and didn't even react when she heard Feng Xilan's voice.

She raised her head blankly, her back to Feng Xilan, without even turning around.

It wasn't until she heard hurried footsteps leaving the main hall, followed by steady, slow footsteps approaching her, that her eyes suddenly lit up, and she realized what was happening.

Empress Shen Biyun quickly looked up and turned around. When she saw that the person who came was indeed her son Feng Xilan, whom she had been thinking about day and night, her expression changed from initial shock to surprise, and even gratitude brought tears to her eyes.

A few steps away from the Empress, Feng Xilan stopped in her tracks, unable to believe that her mother had become so thin in just half a month. Her cheeks were slightly sunken, making her eyes appear larger, yet they also revealed a deep sense of frustration and sorrow.

"Mother." Feng Xilan felt a lump in her throat and spoke in a hoarse voice. Then, abandoning the composure and demeanor of a crown prince, she quickly walked towards Shen Biyun.

Seeing this, Shen Biyun, whose eyes were brimming with tears, quickly opened her arms and embraced her son.

During these days, while Shen Biyun was under house arrest, her biggest worry was her son. She was afraid that her mistake would implicate Feng Xilan, so she was constantly tormented by regret and could not eat or sleep.

Seeing that Feng Xilan was alright, Shen Biyun finally breathed a sigh of relief, but the next moment, the hatred in her eyes for the Imperial Noble Consort intensified.

If it weren't for this Imperial Noble Consort, she wouldn't be in this situation where she needs to be confined to her quarters, and she almost implicated her son. But her son, Feng Moran, is the only one who enjoys the Emperor's favor.

The only consolation for Shen Biyun now is that at least she still holds the position of Empress, and Feng Xilan still holds the position of Crown Prince. This is the foundation for their confidence to turn things around.

"How did you get here?" Shen Biyun affectionately touched Feng Xilan's face, as if to make sure he had been doing well these past few days. "Are you feeling any better?"

Hearing Shen Biyun express concern for his health, Feng Xilan felt another pang of pain in his heart. It seemed that his mother was the one who needed more care right now.

With red eyes, Feng Xilan held Shen Biyun's hand and gently comforted her, "Mother, I'm fine, but you've lost a lot of weight."

"Mother is alright. Seeing you makes me feel much better." Shen Biyun smiled and nodded. Seeing her filial son, she felt comforted and knew that her insistence was not wrong.

Once Shen Biyun and Feng Xilan had calmed down a bit, they sat down at the table.

Feng Xilan lowered his voice and said, "Your Majesty, I have a few words I would like to say to you."

He remembered clearly the advice Mu Chenshuang gave him that day.

"Go on," Shen Biyun said, her loving gaze sweeping over Feng Xilan's face. She felt that something about him had changed; he had become more composed, but he no longer had that sharp, assertive air about him.

"Father has not yet lifted Mother's confinement, so I dare not ask him rashly. I am only here to visit Mother today and will be leaving in less than an hour."

Feng Xilan explained helplessly, and upon hearing this, Shen Biyun's gaze indeed darkened, and her disappointment was almost palpable.
