Mu Chenshuang and Consort Li returned to Fengyi Palace.
"Your Majesty the Empress!" Consort Li bowed. She looked at the Empress's reaction, which showed no surprise at her return, which only made her more uneasy.
The Empress looked at Consort Li and asked, "Consort Li, how have I treated you on a daily basis?"
Consort Li nodded and replied, "Her Majesty the Empress has always treated me well."
The Empress stood up and walked to Consort Li. "Since you know that I have treated you well, I will give you a chance to tell me the whole story. Who exactly instigated you to frame me?"
The moment the words were spoken.
Consort Li felt her mind go blank for a moment, and knelt on the ground in panic, saying, "Your Majesty, I do not understand your meaning. Even if I had the courage of a bear and the gall of a leopard, I would not dare to frame Your Majesty."
The Empress looked down at Consort Li with disdain, her gaze carrying an invisible sense of oppression.
"Dare not? Consort Li, I find you quite daring."
A sharp shout startled Consort Li, causing her shoulders to tremble.
"I'm giving you one last chance. If you confess, I can guarantee your life. But if you remain obstinate, no one can protect you then."
Consort Li lowered her head, her hands clenched tightly, trying to calm herself down, but her palms were still sweating.
Consort Ling's guess was correct; the Empress had immediately suspected her, and her previous words to her were indeed a test.
But does the Empress truly possess evidence, or is she merely bluffing?
"Your Majesty, I truly do not understand your meaning. I am but a lowly concubine; how could I possibly have the ability to cause Consort Rong to miscarry, let alone have the audacity to frame Your Majesty?"
Consort Li suppressed her inner fear and finished saying those words.
The empress lowered her eyelids slightly, a fierce glint in her eyes.
"Consort Li, was it Consort Rong who framed you for miscarrying your child?" Mu Chenshuang suddenly asked.
Consort Li tensed up. "I don't know why Princess Weiyang would say such a thing. I accidentally fell. It has nothing to do with Consort Rong."
Mu Chenshuang ignored Consort Li's answer, walked to Consort Li's side, reached into her sleeve and took out a piece of clothing for a child that was missing half, along with the doll, and threw it directly in front of Consort Li.
Upon seeing these two items, Consort Li's eyes widened suddenly, and her mind went blank for a moment.
"The stitching on the clothes on this doll is exactly the same as the stitching on this baby's clothes. What's more, the missing half of the fabric on this doll is exactly the same piece of fabric on this doll. You must have heard someone say that if you make a doll out of a baby's clothes and let it wear it, then the baby's resentment will attach itself to the doll, making the person being cursed even more miserable, tormented by the baby's spirit every day, and unable to conceive again for the rest of their life."
"So, Consort Li, do you dare to say that you didn't make this doll?"
Mu Chenshuang pressed him with a low, cold tone.
Consort Li knelt on the ground, her head bowed, her breathing heavy, her fingers clenched so tightly that her nails seemed about to pierce her palms.
She remained silent in the face of Mu Chenshuang's questioning.
"Still not admitting it even now?" the Empress demanded angrily.
"Consort Li, who are you waiting for if you don't speak?"
Compared to the Empress's angry aura, Mu Chenshuang's cold and flat tone was even more terrifying and unsettling.
