Chapter 089: Isn’t it enough for you to just seduce my sister?
Xiao Peng and Pascal were drinking and discussing about setting up a company when they suddenly saw a group of people with musical instruments come on stage.
There are not many electronic music nightclubs in Marseille for young people to vent, and even if there are, they are all in the newly built areas; while most of the bars in the old town are bars with performances.
In fact, the difference between Paris and Marseille can be seen from the bar band performances.
Parisians prefer jazz, a vintage, elegant, and relaxed vibe. Marseille, being close to Spain, is more popular with its lively flamenco music. This was the case with the restaurant Xiao Peng and his friends were in. While they were chatting, someone had been singing in the room.
But generally speaking, these bars have their own fixed bands, so why are there a group of people carrying instruments? At first glance, they look very professional!
When they saw them, whistles and cheers were heard in the bar, which aroused Xiao Peng's curiosity.
"Who is this?" Xiao Peng asked puzzledly.
Fabian introduced: "This is the 'Avalon Jazz Band', a very popular jazz band in the south of France."
The Maasai people’s preference for flamenco music does not mean that there is no jazz music here. Xiao Peng suddenly realized that there was a specially invited band performing!
The guitarist was holding a classical guitar. When the prelude started, Xiao Peng was stunned: "Celtic folk song?"
Environment changes people. Xiao Peng stayed in Marseille for so long that the music he listened to changed. He also became familiar with European music. The characteristic of this Celtic folk song is the three-beat rhythm, which is very common in film and television works set in the Middle-earth period, such as "Game of Thrones" and "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy".
This kind of music is beautiful but is more suitable for listening to alone in the dead of night, otherwise it always sounds a bit depressing.
"What the hell," Xiao Peng complained. "You two were the ones pouring cold water on me to begin with, and now after hearing this song I feel like the world is full of malice towards me."
"Isn't this song good?" Fabian blinked.
Xiao Peng shrugged and said, "It sounds nice, but wouldn't it be better if it were a little more cheerful? This music also depends on the context! I'm in such a good mood, why would I sing such a depressing song? I really want to pick up my suona and sing "A Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix" to cheer everyone up!"
"Don't do that!" Fabian and Pascal were shocked and said in unison.
Pascal said helplessly, "Now when I go home, my neighbors avoid me! Just imagine how terrifying your suona is!"
Xiao Peng laughed heartily. "I'm being merciful by not beating gongs early in the morning and playing the erhu late at night! Once you understand our Chinese folk music, you'll open the door to a new world! Your Celtic folk music is no match for it... huh?"
He turned his head and looked at the stage before he finished speaking.
A woman's singing voice was heard on the stage, and it was actually in Chinese!
Although her pronunciation was not standard, Xiao Peng could basically understand the lyrics she sang.
“You say this scenery is picturesque, but I see you are distracted;
Just stop listening to me and take off your disguise;
Can you hear me crying?
You are like a white horse, running away leisurely... "
Xiao Peng's eyes widened. "What kind of song is this? How can you sing a Celtic folk song in Chinese? Where's the singer?"
He found that there were only musicians but no singers on the stage.
Fabian looked playful. "Didn't you hear the introduction just now? The song is called 'Horse'. So what do you think? Do you still find it depressing?"
Xiao Peng gave a thumbs-up: "This song is so damn good! How come I can only hear the voice but not the singer?"
He was so fond of the song that he loved everyone. How could he not be excited when he heard someone singing a Chinese song in a foreign country? Even though he had never heard of the song before, he was extremely curious.
At this moment, a woman came out from the backstage while singing. Xiao Peng was surprised when he saw her face clearly: "Marin?"
It turned out to be Felix's sister, Marlene, who was singing. He looked at Fabian with a puzzled look in his eyes. Why was Marlene here? And singing on the stage?
Fabian gave the answer: "Felix's school is about to start, and Marlene was planning to go straight back to Paris, but Felix insisted on coming to say goodbye. He just happened to know you passed your driver's license, so he planned to give you a surprise. Marlene learned this Chinese song and performed it for you! How about it, do you like it?"
"I love it so much!" Xiao Peng cursed. "Where's that brat Felix?"
Fabian spread his hands and said, "Who do you think is playing the piano?"
Xiao Peng suddenly understood. He asked in confusion, "Marin must be very dissatisfied with me, right? Why would she cooperate with Felix to surprise me?"
Fabian smiled and said, "I asked Marlene, and she said that after traveling with Felix this time, she noticed a big change in Felix. Their relationship is much more harmonious than before, and Felix has grown a lot! She doesn't know why Felix has changed so much in the past few days with you, but she has to thank you! That's why this scene happened."
Xiao Peng didn't know what to say. He hadn't had many friends in Marseille for so long, and a few of his so-called "friends" had actually screwed him over and nearly made him unable to take care of himself. But now he felt the warmth of having friends.
The song ended quickly, and Marlene bowed to the customers in the audience before coming to Xiao Peng with Felix.
"Xiao, do you like my sister's song?" Felix asked excitedly.
Xiao Peng scratched his head. "I like it very much. I didn't expect Marlene to sing so well. But... Marlene, do you know the meaning of the lyrics?"
Marlene shook her head decisively: "I don't know, I just thought the song was nice and forced myself to learn it."
Xiao Peng laughed. "The lyrics of this song boil down to one sentence: 'My ex-boyfriend, you'll never have a good death.' Do you think it's appropriate for you to sing this song to me?"
Felix rolled his eyes. "Master, aren't you a master at picking up girls? You could have picked up my sister and then dumped her. Then she'd be singing this song to you!"
Xiao Peng's face was filled with gloom. "Marin, tell me the truth, is Felix your biological brother?"
Marlene was also at a loss for words: "I'm starting to doubt this too! How about you guys just close your eyes and let me beat him up for a while?"
Felix's eyes widened after hearing this and he said, "Master, save me! I have a gift for you!"
Xiao Peng was stunned. "Aren't you giving me a great gift? This is the best song I've heard in all my time in Marseille."
Felix pulled out a small box from his pocket. "Master, your diving watch is broken, isn't it? I'll give you a new one! Try it on and see if you like it."
Xiao Peng looked at the small box in Felix's hand but didn't reach out to take it. Instead, he looked up at everyone. After a long silence, he said, "Fabian, where is the most luxurious nightclub in Marseille?"
"Ah? What are you going to do?" Fabian was stunned.
"Let's go have a good time and not leave until we're drunk!"
