Chapter 1: Octopus and Jellyfish Fight

Marseille is a beautiful port city in southern France, famous for its beaches and sunshine. Many people think that Paris is the most popular tourist city in France, but in fact, Marseille is the city that receives the most tourists in France, with millions of tourists flocking to Marseille from all over the world every year.

This also includes a large number of Chinese tourists who come here to dive, swim in the sea and appreciate the lavender.

At midnight, a young Chinese man appeared at David Beach, carrying diving equipment. After warming up, he put on his diving equipment, turned on his headlamp, and dived directly into the seabed.

His name is Xiao Peng, and he is not a tourist, but an employee working here. His job is to dive into the seabed and clean up the garbage on the seabed. He is commonly known as the "sea cleaner"!

David Beach is a popular tourist attraction in Marseille, welcoming numerous visitors daily. These tourists often leave a large amount of trash, sometimes even personal belongings, in the ocean. Xiao Peng's job is to clean up the trash on the seabed.

This job is not as simple as you think. We need to receive tourists during the day. If we clean up the garbage, it will easily have an adverse impact on the beach, so this job needs to be done at night.

Night diving is a demanding profession, as safety is not guaranteed. Therefore, this job requires at least a PADI Level 3 certification. Generally, a Level 2 certification is sufficient for amateur divers; Level 3 certification is rare. And wouldn't a Level 3 certification be better for them to become diving instructors? Why would they want to clean up the seafloor? It's exhausting and unprofitable!

Xiao Peng also wanted to be a diving instructor, but Marseille lacked everything except instructors, and they only trusted locals. So he could only focus on garbage collection, though he occasionally had the opportunity to work part-time as a diving instructor, specializing in Chinese tourists who didn't speak French.

This job wasn't as easy as one might imagine: Marseille is located in the Mediterranean Sea, and the waters are crystal clear. However, the quality of the foreigners isn't as good as the media boasts, and there's a lot of trash on the seabed. Every time Xiao Peng goes to the sea, he's busy for a long time!

What's that saying? Never turn your hobby into a job! Xiao Peng used to love diving, but ever since he started this job, he's become terrified of the ocean.

"Oh..." Xiao Peng sighed inwardly after throwing the broken sunglasses with one lens missing that he had just picked up into his storage bag at the bottom of the sea.

When cleaning up the seabed garbage, the most important thing to pay attention to is glass garbage, because it can easily scratch tourists! His immediate boss Pierre is an out-and-out bastard, and he doesn't want to cause him any more trouble because of this matter.

Xiao Peng looked around the seabed with a headlamp. It was not an easy task to find a piece of glass lens on such a large beach.

"Hmm?" A small reflection in the distance caught Xiao Peng's attention. It was a reef area with slightly deeper water. Xiao Peng swam over curiously and found a piece of glass lens stuck in the crack of the reef.

If he had known this was the case, he wouldn't have come. How could any tourist go to the reef area? However, he still picked up the lens and put it in the storage bag. After all, it was his job requirement.

Just as he was about to swim back, he suddenly noticed a large white plastic bag floating in the water.

Who is so wicked? Throwing such a large plastic bag into the ocean? If he didn't recycle such a large piece of plastic waste, he'd be out of a job if anyone saw him!

He quickly swam towards the plastic bag, but he didn't expect that the 'plastic bag' was floating faster than him!

Xiao Peng felt something was wrong. He didn't sense any undercurrent nearby. Why was the plastic bag floating so fast?

He used the diving light to shine on the plastic bag, and when he saw it clearly, he almost cursed!

Wow! What the hell is this?

Xiao Peng suspected he was hallucinating! The white object in front of him wasn't a plastic bag, but a jellyfish, and an octopus was entangled with the jellyfish! It looked more like a fight!

No matter whether it is jellyfish or octopus, they are both very common in the ocean, but the combination of these two looks abnormal no matter how you look at it!

When have you ever heard of a jellyfish and an octopus clashing?

This octopus is the common octopus commonly found in the Mediterranean. It is not called this because it is too common, but its scientific name is "common octopus". In China, it is generally called true octopus.

And that jellyfish looked unusual! According to biological knowledge, the jellyfish Xiao Peng saw was a monster!

The jellyfish's umbrella is about one meter in diameter, and its tentacles are even longer, about seven or eight meters. This size isn't considered large for a jellyfish. The largest known jellyfish is the Arctic jellyfish, which has an umbrella diameter of nearly three meters and tentacles that can reach up to forty meters long. Even the Echizen jellyfish, a species often used for jellyfish skin in China, has an umbrella over one meter long and tentacles over ten meters long.

But here's the problem: these large jellyfish generally belong to the orders Cercostomata or Rhizostomata. This particular jellyfish, however, clearly belongs to the order Cubozoa based on its shape. The biggest difference between Cubozoa and other common jellyfish is that while the umbrella of a typical jellyfish is round, the umbrella of a Cubozoa is cubic, with a quadrilateral edge.

But the largest umbrella-shaped body of a cubic jellyfish is only the size of a palm. How could there be such a huge creature with an umbrella-shaped body more than one meter in diameter?

All species of cubic jellyfish are extremely poisonous to humans! For example, the Australian jellyfish, ranked number one among the "World's Ten Most Poisonous," is a species of cubic jellyfish. A human being struck by one can be fatal within thirty seconds to five minutes! Another terrifying aspect of cubic jellyfish is their tendency to actively attack their prey. If the Australian jellyfish's size were magnified, this giant cubic jellyfish could potentially poison even a blue whale.

But what about that octopus? Not only did it survive the poisoning of the monster jellyfish, it even seemed to have the upper hand in the fight!

This is so fucking unscientific!

When you encounter a ruthless guy like this, it's best to run away! Curiosity kills the cat—this is really not just a slogan! Xiao Peng turned around and swam towards the shore without a second thought!

As a result, after swimming for a few strokes, Xiao Peng felt a stinging pain in his back!

Even though he was in the sea, he felt cold sweat running down his face.

As an old water lover, Xiao Peng certainly knew that the stinging sensation on his body was caused by a jellyfish attack!

That's a cubic jellyfish! It's deadly!

At this moment, the octopus that was fighting the jellyfish also swam over and sucked directly onto Xiao Peng's diving goggles, and coincidentally broke Xiao Peng's breathing tube.

"It's over!"

Xiao Peng only felt his eyes go dark and then he quickly lost consciousness!
