Chapter 106 Estonia
Xiao Peng was dumbfounded. "I have to admit, I can see you've done a lot of preparation, but don't you think this so-called 'evidence' is unreliable? Most of it is just 'guesswork' and 'inference'. Are you so sure there's treasure on the seabed based on this patchy 'evidence'?"
Moreau asked in return, "But isn't underwater salvage based on guesswork?"
Xiao Peng looked at Pascal, who nodded. "Everyone knows there are treasures on the seabed, but not many people actually engage in underwater salvage, and most don't persevere because of this. 99.9% of shipwreck treasure recovery is a matter of luck; it depends on whether God blesses you."
"What about the remaining 0.1%?" Xiao Peng asked puzzledly.
Pascal replied: "The remaining 0.1% are shipwrecks like the Estonia, where everyone knows there are at least 40 kilograms of gold on board but no one can salvage it."
"40 kilograms of gold?" Xiao Peng's eyes turned into money symbols: "What's going on?"
Pascal coughed twice and pointed at Moreau: "I think you should deal with the current situation first!"
"Oh oh oh." Xiao Peng looked at Moro: "So...what do you want to talk to me about?"
Moro hesitated for a moment and then said as if he had made up his mind: "Mr. Xiao, I want to ask you for money!"
"Huh?" Xiao Peng laughed as if he had just heard a huge joke. He exchanged glances with Pascal and burst into laughter. "Dude, are you sure?"
Moro, however, looked serious. "Mr. Xiao, I'm not mistaken. Alan stole my intelligence and went to salvage it, and you served as his observer. The sudden appearance of this jewel proves that my findings were correct. I don't know how you salvaged it, but it's directly related to my intelligence, so I need to get the compensation I deserve."
Xiao Peng suppressed his smile. "Moro, did I ever tell you that these jewels were found in the Scandola Reserve? And did I ever admit that I salvaged these jewels? Since you were able to find this place, you must have investigated me and should know that I don't have any underwater salvage equipment. All your excuses for asking me for money are just your own guesses. What right do you have to ask me for money?"
At this point, Xiao Peng slapped his forehead and said, "I remember who you are! You were the one who smashed Alan's head with a wine bottle at the dock, right? Let me give you a warning, my fighting ability is not comparable to Alan's. If you dare to use the same tactics against Alan, I can throw you right into the sea!"
Moro followed Xiao Peng's finger and glanced at the sea, which was about a kilometer away. "Are you going to throw me into the sea from here?"
Xiao Peng blinked. He knew he had exaggerated a bit. He coughed twice and said, "I'm not going to throw you over in one go! I'm going to throw you all the way over!"
Pascal shook his head: "Moreau, go ahead. I've seen him fight twice. Believe me, I've seen him fight twice. He has the ability."
After hearing this, Moreau remained silent. Xiao Peng stared at him, afraid that he would make any sudden move. He was not afraid of Moreau, but he was afraid that Pascal would be attacked.
As a result, Moreau's next move left Xiao Peng and Pascal dumbfounded: he suddenly started crying.
Xiao Peng believed that he was crying from the bottom of his heart. If he was just pretending, his acting skills would win an Oscar!
"Hey, buddy, what are you doing?" Xiao Peng was speechless. "You're trying to act pitiful in front of me? I'm not buying it!"
Pascal took out a tissue and handed it to him: "Xiao, after all, this is the child of my grandfather's colleague. Listen to what he says. Moro, what's going on?"
Moreau looked at Pascal and said, "I'm divorced! That bitch divorced me and took everything! She took the house, the kids! She even wanted to take my dog! That's my dog! She hates that dog!"
Xiao Peng blinked. "So you're so angry because your ex-wife took your dog away?"
Pascal coughed twice: "Xiao, this joke is not that funny."
Morrow looked up at Xiao Peng. He probably would have jumped up and fought Xiao Peng to the death if he hadn't been defeated. After a while, he calmed down: "He wants to take my angel Cathy away."
Xiao Peng scratched his head and whispered to Pascal, "Is his dog called Cathy?"
Pascal coughed twice: "Xiao, that should refer to his daughter."
"Oh, oh, I'm sorry!" Xiao Peng said, "Moro, if you divorce, why don't you just fight for custody? How come she'll become your wife?"
Moreau sighed, "I have no income."
Xiao Peng suddenly realized: "I understand, you are just like those people who buy lottery tickets, dreaming every day that you will get rich, wanting to make a fortune all at once to improve your life!"
Moro was silent for a moment before saying, "That's exactly what I thought at first, but I changed my mind later! Every shipwreck represents its own history, and finding a shipwreck worth salvaging through my own hard work is a sense of accomplishment that can't be easily expressed in words."
Xiao Peng thought for a moment: "Does this mean you have information about other shipwrecks?"
Moro didn't deny it. "I do have information on a few ships, but I'm sorry, Mr. Xiao. After what happened with Alan, I've learned my lesson and won't make the same mistake again."
Xiao Peng sat back in his chair: "Moro, tell me about the 'Estonia' that Xiao Pa mentioned just now."
"You want to salvage the 'Estonia'?" Moro shook his head after hearing this. "Give up that idea. Finland, Sweden, and Estonia have issued a joint statement prohibiting the salvaging of that ship. Although many people know there are at least 40 kilograms of gold on board, no one is willing to salvage it."
"I just need you to tell me the information about this ship." Xiao Peng said lightly.
Moro shook his head. "Everyone knows the 'Estonia' passenger ship disaster is the deadliest maritime disaster since World War II. It sank in the Baltic Sea southwestern Finland in the early morning of September 28, 1994, killing 852 people. But there are too many suspicious points about this disaster. Over 500 of the victims were Swedish, yet the Swedish government has banned the recovery of remains and instead hired a Dutch salvage company to attempt to cover the entire ship with concrete."
"Concrete?" Xiao Peng was stunned after hearing this.
Moreau explained, "Covering the ship with concrete is simply an effective way to prevent the leakage of radioactive materials. Many people suspect that this is because the ship is carrying nuclear materials, while others say it is transporting weapons. Another theory is that a former Soviet officer was on the run and was hunted by the KGB, causing the shipwreck. The claim of 40 kilograms of gold is because it belonged to the officer's family property. But no matter what, want to salvage this ship? Three countries are watching! It's impossible!"
