Chapter 1063: Careful Thoughts

Chapter 1063: Careful Thoughts

Xiao Peng's 'vacation' life was going on in an orderly manner, while other people on the island were going crazy. Do you really think this is a paradise?

Even though there are delicious food and drinks here, Paula and the others can't stand it. They urge Xiao Peng to make a raft and leave here every day - you treat this place as heaven, but we treat it as hell!

Actually, the "wood drying" thing was just Xiao Peng's excuse for being lazy. He originally wanted to tell them there was a life raft, but then he thought: making a raft would be a great experience, right? Okay, let's start making a raft!

It just so happened that the seasonings he brought were almost used up, and his vacation was about to end!

Making a raft is actually a very difficult task. Moving such heavy wood to make it is really difficult for ordinary people and the combination of "one man and two women" to make a raft.

Xiao Peng's "super strength" perfectly solved this problem.

He made a raft there himself and asked Paula and Montraser to prepare food and fresh water: the rain had obviously decreased during this period, so they had to filter the dirty groundwater and then boil it; as for food, they prepared smoked fish and cassava balls.

There are enough fishery resources here, and Xiao Peng used a fishing method he learned in Africa, which was taught to him by the Sheler fisherman named "Yubu".

At that time, Xiao Peng gave him a secretary bird in exchange for releasing it. Yub felt a little embarrassed and taught Xiao Peng and his friends the traditional fishing method.

In fact, this fishing method also reflects the life attitude of the African people - they live very casually.

The only tool they use in their traditional fishing method is stone!

The Shelers throw rocks into the sea, creating a "simple dam" about shin-high. During high tide, the water overflows the rocks, while during low tide, the rocks trap the fish that approach the shore during high tide, allowing them to be slain with a spear. While building a "dam" takes several days, the dam itself can be used to secure a catch for years.

Just like Yub, his daily "work" basically just involves taking a walk around his own circle of rocks.

Africans may be poor, but they rarely go hungry...which is why their cooking methods are so simple. There's an interesting saying, and one Xiao Peng strongly agrees with: the more abundant food resources a place has, the harder it is to develop excellent cooking techniques.

Africa is a representative example of such a place.

Speaking of spearing fish, it is actually a technical job. It all comes down to the three words "fast, accurate and ruthless". "Fast" and "ruthless" are actually not difficult to achieve. Basically, an adult can achieve the strength and speed of throwing a javelin to spear fish. The most difficult part is "accuracy".

This "accurate" does not only refer to the accuracy of javelin throwing. Accuracy can be achieved through training: draw a target in front of you and shoot it from a high position. Ordinary people can do it after practicing for three to five days.

The real technical difficulty in spearing fish is the location of the fish.

What the human eye sees as fish in the water is not actually the true location of the fish.

Anyone who's taken high school physics knows that light refracts in water. While knee-deep water might not seem deep, the fish are actually farther back. At this depth, the easiest place to spear a fish is about 20 centimeters from its tail. The deeper the fish is in the water, the further back you should place the spear.

In fact, this technique of spearing fish is one of the oldest fishing techniques of mankind. Even now, many places still preserve this fishing habit. For example, in Taiwan, the South Pacific and Africa, you can find fishermen who use spears to fish. However, there are still slight differences in comparison.

The targets of spear fishing in the Formosa region are basically sailfish or swordfish. Their fishing boats all have a high bow, and the spearfishermen stand on the bow holding a three or four meter long spear to look for targets - such spears are more stable when thrown out; and the spearfishermen in the South Pacific island countries and Africa also stand on the bow to look for targets, but the spears they use are only about one and a half meters long. The spearfishermen over there throw the spears, while they hold the spears high and dive directly into the sea from the boat to spear fish, using their own body weight to exert force!

Of course, not everyone can spear fish like that – judging the fish's position and the accuracy of the spear require long-term training. Compared to this, spearing fish while standing in a dive is really easy.

Paula and Montraser stood in the water, spearing fish with their spears. Their prey was more often crabs and lobsters, even if the fish were right at their feet. Their chances of landing a fish were about once every ten or so shots. Crabs and lobsters were much easier to catch, by comparison.

Paula caught a lobster, threw it off the spear and threw it to the shore, complaining, "Oh, it's a lobster again! I used to dream of sleeping with a lobster in my arms, but now I almost vomit when I see a lobster!"

Her complaints were not without reason: because of the need to prepare food, all the fish had to be used to make smoked fish, and the most popular foods they ate now were lobsters and crabs - there were plenty of these two things here.

This thing is delicious, but you can’t eat it every day!

Eating delicacies every day is actually the same as going hungry every day, both are basically suffering!

Montrase nodded and said, "I'm going to sleep with fruit in my arms when I get back! I've had enough of these cassava leaves!"

Paula nodded and continued searching for her target with her spear raised. As she searched, she said, "Is that monster still a man? He's not a gentleman at all! He even made us work! Look at me, I have calluses on my hands now! I'm going to get a manicure when I get home. This is too ugly!"

After hearing this, Montraser thought for a moment and said, "Actually, I've been thinking about this question lately - do we really have to be with those losers like Alvaro? Wouldn't it be better to stay with this monster? Look at the lives of Alvaro and his friends and then look at our lives. There's a world of difference!"

After hearing this, Paula said, "That's what you say, but have you thought about it, Montrasse? We can rely on him on this island, but what about our original lives? Money is the most important thing! Without it, everything is useless! I've secretly contacted Mayer. As long as we can ensure his safety and let him go back, he will give us 200 million Uruguayan pesos alone! What kind of life can we live with this money? Is that kind of wealthy life something a barbarian like this can give us? Remember what we said? Men are all idiots! Use them when you can! And throw them away when you're done!"

Montrasse nodded after hearing this. "You're right! But I really feel safe with him! When I get back, the first thing I'm going to do is hire a yellow bodyguard!"

"You still want a sleeping service?"

“That’s a must!”
