Chapter 112 Western Food is Really Greasy

Chapter 112 Western Food is Really Greasy

After hearing this, Xiao Peng didn't rush to ask what happened. Instead, he said, "Go take a hot bath and relax. I'll prepare something delicious for us to eat while we talk. Eat something hot to drive away the cold!"

Pascal was about to speak when Xiao Peng took out a towel, threw it on him, and pushed him into the bathroom: "I'm sure you'll have something delicious to eat when you come out!"

Pascal stared at Xiao Peng. After a while, he whispered, "Thank you, Xiao." Then he took the bath towel and went to the bedroom.

When he came out of the bathroom, the cabin was filled with steam, but it was not caused by his bathroom, but by Xiao Peng.

Xiao Peng changed his clothes. There was a frying pan on an induction cooker in front of him. The steam in the cabin came from the frying pan.

"Let's have hot pot today! There's nothing better than eating hot pot in stormy weather!" Xiao Peng said with a smile, "But be prepared, our food is going to be very spicy. You see, this boat is rocking back and forth in the wind and rain. I didn't put too much water in the soup to prevent it from spilling. The soup base is highly concentrated spicy soup! Don't blame me if you can't eat it!"

Pascal looked at Xiao Peng, then at the pot of red soup base. Suddenly, he grinned: "Xiao, I understand what you mean! Thank you!"

"Oh?" Xiao Peng looked at Pascal: "What do I mean?"

"Didn't you always say this? 'There's nothing a hotpot meal can't solve, if there is, then two meals'. Similar things you've also said, 'There's nothing a barbecue meal can't solve, if there is, then two meals', 'There's nothing a naked girl can't solve, if there is, then two' and so on and so forth. You said so much but in fact the meaning is only one: Don't care so much and don't be so obsessed!" Pascal said.

Xiao Peng spread his hands and said, "Actually, I just want to eat hot pot, but I'm glad you can come up with so many ideas on your own. I don't need to talk any more, let's eat and talk at the same time!"

He picked up a piece of mutton with chopsticks, dipped it in the pot, and put it directly into his mouth: "Wow, so spicy! So refreshing! So disgusting... Damn it, I really don't understand why you French people like to eat mutton! Your Charolais lamb here is so disgusting!"

Pascal also took a chopstick of mutton and tasted it. It was so spicy that he was speechless for a long time. The first word he said was, "Delicious! How can you say such good mutton is not delicious?"

Xiao Peng looked disdainful. "We're used to eating goat in our country, and it's much tastier than sheep. I'm not bragging, but any one of our country's four famous sheep would beat your crappy Charolais! You French people brag about your French cuisine all the time. When I have time, I'll take you to China and show you how to write the word 'eat'!"

"Go to China?" Pascal was stunned.

Xiao Peng rolled his eyes at him. "Fuck! You keep saying we're friends, but you don't even want to visit my hometown?"

Pascal got anxious after hearing this: "Who said I don't want to go? I'm willing to go!"

"That's fine! I'll take you to eat some real food, not my half-baked Chinese food." Xiao Peng took out a bottle of beer and handed it to Pascal.

Pascal's eyes widened: "You still think this is half-baked Chinese food?"

Xiao Peng nodded. "A good cook cannot cook without rice! Many of the seasonings we use are hard to find here. Just like the peanut oil I told you about, I had to travel all over Marseille to buy it."

Pascal shook his head after hearing this: "Everything about your Chinese food is good, except it's too greasy!"

After hearing this, Xiao Peng shook his head: "That's wrong!"

Pascal said helplessly, "Xiao, this is a well-known fact, okay? Chinese food is too greasy and unhealthy. Just look at the bottom of this hot pot, there's a thick layer of oil inside!"

Xiao Peng asked a question in return: "Xiao Pa, let me ask you something. Do you think there are more fat people in your country or in our country?"

Pascal was stunned after hearing this, then thought for a moment and said, "Now that you mention it, it's true. I've never seen a very fat Chinese person. Is this because of their physique?"

Xiao Peng shook his head. "There's a certain connection, but it's not significant. Look at those foreigners who have lived in China for a long time. Not many of them become obese as they age. The key issue here is diet. I can tell you this: our Chinese food is actually much lighter than your Western food! Ours just 'looks greasy,' while your Western food is the real greasy food!"

"Are you okay? Western food is greasy?" Pascal looked at Xiao Peng with caring eyes for the mentally retarded.

Xiao Peng picked up his beer, clinked glasses with Pascal, took a sip, and continued, "The main cooking method we use in Chinese cuisine is stir-frying. It looks greasy, but the oil is in the soup, not the vegetables. What about Western food? For example, your scrambled eggs are different from ours. We stir-fry them directly with oil, and they look greasy, leaving a layer of oil at the bottom of the plate. But your scrambled eggs? The beaten eggs are filled with milk and cheese. Which one do you think has a higher fat content? Your ancestors had no problem eating this way to survive, but if they still eat this way now, how can we not get fat?"

Many fans of Western food in China always say that Western food is nutritious and healthy, but what they never consider is that most Western food itself is high in calories.

There's nothing that can be done about it. Western cuisine originated in Europe, and Europe itself is a high-latitude region with generally cold temperatures. Take Marseille, for example. It's on the same latitude as Changchun in China. If it weren't for its unique Mediterranean climate, people would freeze to death in winter. As for Paris? It's even further north than Harbin, and London is almost on the same latitude as Mohe!

This led to ancient Europeans needing high-calorie foods to withstand the cold. Oil and sugar became the best choices. Every meal was inseparable from high-calorie foods such as butter, cheese, cream, and sugar.

Salads may seem healthier, but they actually originated because traditional European cooking methods relied solely on roasting and boiling. These two methods weren't ideal for vegetables, so they were simply chopped up, coated in oil, and eaten raw. Later, potato salad and other dishes emerged, requiring cooking before basting. Oil was still necessary, and olive oil was often used for this purpose. Later, salad dressings emerged, simply made with eggs and fat. Eating these every day was hard to avoid obesity!

Xiao Peng is not a health scientist so he cannot confirm whether Western food is healthier than Chinese food, but Western food is definitely higher in calories than Chinese food!

Xiao Peng looked up at Pascal and said, "Brother, now it's time to tell me what happened!"
