Chapter 1161: First Test for Drunk Driving

Chapter 1161: First Test for Drunk Driving

Xiao Peng's original evaluation of the Dutch police was that 'they can't handle big things but small things are more important than anything else', but Xiao Peng never expected that they had reached this point!

Xiao Peng told them that he had been kidnapped and murdered. What did the Rotterdam police do? They sent a team of police to the scene to conduct an on-site investigation, and then asked several traffic police to give Xiao Peng a DUI test.

When William and the others arrived, Xiao Peng was standing there with his eyes closed and his head raised.

This is not about Xiao Peng's image, but it is a part of the DUI test.

The so-called 'DUI' test is when the police ask the driver to perform a series of actions to test whether the driver is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

First, they will take out an object, such as a pen, and place it in front of the subject's eyes. The subject will be asked to look at the pen. The police will keep moving the pen up and down, left and right to see if the subject's eyes react sensitively.

Then they will ask the driver to walk in a straight line, with his hands on both sides of the body, and then take the left foot first, with the heel of the right foot touching the toe of the left foot, and then move the left foot forward until the heel touches the toe of the right foot, and so on. After nine steps forward, turn around and walk back in the same way.

After completing this test, the subject is asked to stand on one leg in a goose-step posture and count "thousand" in his mouth, that is, "1001, 1002, 1003" and so on until the police say stop.

They use the word 'thousands' because it takes almost exactly one second to count the words, and it's a simple way of keeping track of time.

After doing all this, the person is asked to put his feet together, put his hands on both sides, close his eyes and tilt his head back, and estimate thirty seconds in his mind. When he thinks thirty seconds have passed, he says stop. The police compares the time estimated by the subject with the actual time, and then uses a series of questions to determine whether he has passed the DUI test.

When William and the others arrived, Xiao Peng was doing the last test there. When he saw William, Xiao Peng showed a helpless expression.

Although William was more of a mascot in the Netherlands and had no jurisdiction, he was still the king after all! The Dutch police couldn't afford to ignore him. Even the police chief came out when they learned of his arrival.

"King William? Why are you here?" The Rotterdam police chief ran out. He was not a two-meter tall man like Bao Wu. On the contrary, he was only a little over 1.7 meters tall. Such a height was rare in the Netherlands.

William obviously knew him. "Director Fred Westerbeck, I'm curious, why didn't you investigate this matter yourself?"

"Big thing? What big thing?" Westerbeck looked confused.

William pointed at Xiao Peng and said, "This is the billionaire Xiao Peng, known as the 'Salvage King.' He was just kidnapped at gunpoint. Three of his bodyguards were shot, and seven of the criminals were killed! And you're actually conducting a DUI test here after such a case?"

Westerbeck was also stunned after hearing this: "Such a thing happened? How come I didn't know about it?"

William's face was dark. "You're asking me? This is Mr. Yangzhou, the Daxia ambassador to the Netherlands. He came here specifically to understand the situation. What's the situation now?"

Westerbeck blinked, and Xiao Peng didn't know whether to laugh or cry when he saw the cute expression on his face.

The Rotterdam police are a magical place - or rather, the whole of Rotterdam is magical.

Many people have a misunderstanding about the Netherlands, that is, the Netherlands is "very free". In fact, the Netherlands has the strictest laws in the whole of Europe. In Europe, strict police control means extremely poor relations with the people.

In the Netherlands, police classify the public's aggressive and violent behavior towards police into more than 30 categories, ranging from the lowest "verbal insult" to "murder". In the first half of this year, there were 808 violent incidents against police in Rotterdam, second only to the 851 in The Hague.

The Rotterdam police are not easy to deal with either, they have done a lot of weird things.

To give a simple example, during the global pandemic, riots broke out across the Netherlands due to dissatisfaction with the Dutch authorities' curfew policy. What did some men in Rotterdam do?

Defend the barber shop!

They were worried that the barbershops would be damaged because of the riots, so they all went to sit inside the barbershops to protect them. There were more than a dozen people sitting in each barbershop to prevent anyone from causing trouble.

Although Xiao Peng couldn't understand why they wanted to protect the barber shops, their presence did protect the barber shops and even eased the riots at the time.

This was supposed to be a good thing, right? They were helping the Rotterdam police solve the problem, but after the riots ended, the first thing the Rotterdam police did was to take these "barbershop defenders" to court, claiming they had violated the curfew and demanding a fine.

Rotterdam also has a particularly cool experimental law: under this law, Rotterdam police can confiscate expensive-looking clothes and watches on the street from people who don't look like they have the money to buy luxury goods.

Their reason is: There are many young drug trafficking gangs in the western part of Rotterdam. Many young people have no income, but they wear luxury watches, drive luxury cars and wear jackets worth thousands of euros. Where does their money come from?

If the person under investigation cannot prove the origin of their luxury goods such as watches, the police have the right to confiscate these items because they are "ill-gotten gains."

What if those people who show off their wealth on the Internet go to Rotterdam? Haha.

But to be honest, when Xiao Peng learned about this regulation, it was hard not to associate it with the word "stupid".

The Netherlands does have legal casinos, and they're state-run! If you encounter such an investigation, all you need to do is say, "It was my luck at the casino," and the police will be completely clueless.

Moreover, this law could easily lead to racial discrimination.

In the eyes of many police officers, it is normal for a white person to wear expensive clothes and carry luxury bags. The people who are investigated are often ethnic minorities...

When Westerbeck learned that even the Daxia ambassador had arrived, he knew things were not going well. He quickly coughed twice and said, "What's wrong with you? Why are you still taking a DUI test after such a serious incident? Is Mr. Xiao's DUI test okay?"

A policeman nodded: "No problem, the possibility of drunk driving and drug driving has been ruled out."

Westerbeck hurriedly said: "Mr. Xiao, we can now investigate your kidnapping case. Please follow me!"

Xiao Peng breathed a sigh of relief, finally able to get down to business, but at this moment a policeman stepped forward and stopped them.

He held a document in his hand and said to Xiao Peng, "Before that, please sign this first."

"What?" Xiao Peng almost laughed out loud after just one look.
