Chapter 1498 Female Cabinet Member

Chapter 1498 Female Cabinet Member

The capital of the Faroe Islands is called Tórshavn – the name of the city is Tórshavn.

Of course, there is also a port here, and their name 'Torshavn' translates to 'the port of Thor's god of thunder'.

When Xiao Peng arrived here, the rain had subsided a lot. After landing at the airport, they went through a series of complicated and strict registration procedures. A group of officials even called France, the Netherlands, Daxia, Germany and other countries to inquire about the identities of Xiao Peng and others.

All this didn't stop until a woman in her thirties arrived.

The woman gave Billy a warm hug and introduced him to Xiao Peng: "This is Connie. Connie, this is my good friend Xiao I told you about."

Connie warmly hugged Xiao Peng and the others and said, "The car is waiting outside. How many people are there?"

Xiao Peng turned around and said, "Hua Chong, refuel and return to the Luna. We can't leave the helicopter here."

Hua Chong nodded and said, "Boss, don't worry, I'll take care of it..." He paused and said, "Be careful when you return to Paris."

They all consciously didn't ask Xiao Peng why he was going back to Paris, but they all knew it must be something serious, otherwise Xiao Peng wouldn't have been so impulsive to go back. So Hua Chong expressed his concern.

Xiao Peng smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'm the most capable person when it comes to doing things."

Bruch on the side covered his face with his hands. These words sounded extremely untrustworthy.

Xiao Peng and his companions left the airport and got on a pickup truck, finally setting foot on the land of the Faroe Islands.

The Faroe Islands have a fascinating history. Located between Iceland, Norway, and the United Kingdom, they are considered a shipping crossroads.

Originally uninhabited, this island was visited by a group of Irish monks who sailed across the ocean in the sixth century AD and became its earliest inhabitants, treating it as a paradise. Unfortunately, this prosperity was short-lived, as the Vikings soon arrived and occupied it, turning it into a vassal state of the Earl of Orkney. Having finally escaped Scottish rule, it became a Norwegian territory.

So how did it become part of Denmark? The answer is: it came from nowhere.

In 1397, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway formed the Kalmar Union, binding the three nations together. Queen Margaret I of Denmark, the eldest of the three royal families, became the unanimous queen of all three nations. Denmark could represent the three nations in matters of sovereignty, diplomacy, and military affairs, without compromising the interests and status of the other two nations. At that time, the Kalmar Union was an extremely powerful force throughout Europe.

From that time on, Denmark began to gradually increase its jurisdiction over the Faroe Islands, and the Faroe Islands gradually became a territory under the actual jurisdiction of Denmark.

However, such an alliance did develop very well in the early stages. As time went on, people's minds began to change. Denmark thought that since the Kalmar Union was under its control, there was no need for Sweden and Norway to exist. Later, Denmark launched a brutal massacre in Stockholm, Sweden, which also marked the complete dissolution of the Kalmar Union.

At that time, Norway was relatively weak compared to Sweden and Denmark, so they chose to form an alliance with the more powerful Denmark. As a result, Denmark looked down on them and directly declared Norway a province of Denmark.

This angered Norway, so it joined forces with Sweden to beat up Denmark and divided up a lot of Danish land.

But in fact, the worst-off country is not Denmark, but Norway.

Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands originally belonged to Norway, and even though Norway was defeated at the time, it refused to return these places to Norway.

Norway was too weak at the time, just like Bactria in World War I, which was the victor but ended up being the defeated nation – a weak country has no say, and they had no choice but to swallow the bitter fruit. So Denmark took Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands.

In fact, if we calculate the area of overseas territories today, the second largest country in Europe is Denmark. Although Iceland has become independent, Greenland and the Faroe Islands are still under the name of Denmark. These two places together with the Danish mainland have an area of more than two million square kilometers!

Why did Denmark insist on holding onto these three places? Their strategic significance was immense, essentially guaranteeing access to sea routes from North America to Europe. At the beginning of World War II, Denmark was quickly occupied by Germany, and Britain wasn't idle either. The moment Denmark was occupied, they quickly dispatched troops to occupy Iceland and the Faroe Islands—places they had long coveted.

It’s a pity that they didn’t get any benefits from either of these two places.

They are not the only ones who are jealous of these places. The Americans are also very jealous. As soon as Denmark was defeated in World War II, they couldn't wait to run to Greenland and announced that Greenland would be under their "trusteeship".

Iceland is so close to Greenland, how could they give in if the British occupied it? So the British occupied Iceland for less than a year before the Americans drove them out, and we also "administered" it. As we were governing it, Iceland became independent.

The British saw this was not going to work. So, while occupying the Faroe Islands, they staged a fake "referendum," supposedly allowing the Faroe Islanders to decide whether to join the UK. The result was disastrous, and the British had no choice but to leave the Faroe Islands in disgrace.

After World War II, the Faroe Islands held another referendum to declare independence, which frightened Denmark: losing the Faroe Islands would mean losing access to the North Atlantic. So they claimed that the referendum was invalid because the Danish Parliament had no standards.

This incident frightened Denmark enough that they granted the Faroe Islands a high degree of autonomy, which is why Bill said, "Self-government is inferior to traditional parliament." But even that didn't work, so they simply closed off the Faroe Islands. There are only two air routes to Iceland and Denmark. All schools teach only Danish and Faroese, no other languages...

But even so, there is still a strong call for independence in the Faroe Islands: people here have no worries about supporting themselves.

After all, the fishery resources here are so abundant, and the total population of all the islands in the Faroe Islands is less than 50,000, and Tórshavn alone accounts for half of them. How can they not feed themselves?

Without exaggeration or slander, if the Faroe Islands truly became independent, they could reach the standards of a developed country simply by relying on their fishery resources! They have the capital to become independent.

Xiao Peng received bad news as soon as he arrived in the Faroe Islands: Denmark was hit by bad weather and the plane couldn't take off, so they would need to wait in Tórshavn. However, the good news was that they didn't have to worry about accommodation - they could just stay at Connie's own hotel.

Damn, what kind of female cabinet member is this? Is she trying to attract business for her own family?
