Chapter 1510 Aubervilliers
Aubervilliers is a city in the 93rd department of Paris, situated on the banks of the Canal Saint-Denis. It boasts a sizeable wholesale market for Chinese merchants. Roughly one-tenth of the city's population is Chinese businesspeople.
However, it is undoubtedly one of the most unsafe cities in the 93rd arrondissement, the worst in Paris. Crime occurs daily, with robberies, thefts, arson, and burglaries averaging dozens, if not hundreds, of cases daily. Crime is particularly prevalent against merchants and customers in the Chinese wholesale district of Aubervilliers. In recent years, thousands of local Chinese took to the streets to protest against crimes against them.
But it's useless. It's still useless until now. The security here is still terrible.
Billy was quite cocky. "Idol, driving this car here is the smartest thing to do. I've only been to Aubervilliers once, and my car's windows were smashed. No one should have their windows smashed in this little junky car, right? Look, this Canal Saint-Denis, the section in Aubervilliers is called the 'River of Floating Corpses.' We find countless corpses floating in this river almost every year. Just the week before we left Paris, three bodies were found in the same week! You can imagine how bad the safety here is."
Bruch frowned: "Aren't there any police here?"
"Yes!" Billy said. "There are even special police patrols! But what good are they? The crime rate here is too high, and many of them are minors. Even if they are caught, they are quickly released. For example, the guy who smashed my car window was caught, but it turned out that was the fifth time he was caught in a week! Besides, the French police, you know, are lucky to have a one in ten thousand case-solving rate! Idol, what are we doing here?"
Xiao Peng was originally looking out the window at the canal, thinking about something. After hearing this, he said, "Billy, it's still not too late for you to go back now. Do you really want to come with us?"
Billy smiled and said, "Of course!"
Xiao Peng said: "Then let's go over there!"
Upon hearing this, Bruch sped up the car and drove along the river for half a day before arriving at a factory area next to the canal.
This was originally a freight terminal on the Saint-Denis Canal, but it looked like it had been abandoned for a long time. The buildings were dilapidated and covered in graffiti and gang slogans.
Bruch drove deeper into the dock and stopped in front of the innermost building.
This is a three-story red brick building that looks like an office building at the docks. The doors and windows of this building are completely sealed with bricks and cement, making it impossible to enter. There is no sign of anyone living there.
"Is this the place?" Xiao Peng asked after getting off the car.
Bruch nodded: "Yes, here it is."
"Where to enter?" Xiao Peng asked after looking around.
Bruch was about to answer when the cover of a nearby well suddenly flipped up from the ground. Ilka stepped out and said, "Master... Mr. Xiao, here!"
Xiao Peng walked to the well. Billy curiously came over and took a look down. It turned out to be a staircase leading to the underground. There was a light inside illuminating a path. He asked curiously, "What is this place? Is it dangerous in there?"
No one answered Billy. Bruch led the way down the stairs, followed by Xiao Peng. Ilka looked at Billy and saw him following behind Xiao Peng. Billy hurried down as well. As soon as he got down, Ilka pressed a button on the wall, and the manhole cover snapped back on.
Only then did Billy discover that there was a hydraulic rod under the manhole cover to control it.
This underground passage must be at least a century old, right? How could such a device exist? It's just a simple hydraulic lever, but who would install something like that on an underground passage cover?
Billy couldn't figure it out.
Although there was light in the passage, it was a closed space and the smell was very unpleasant. Billy covered his nose and followed the others.
"Where the hell is this place?" Billy felt like he was going to go crazy if he didn't speak up.
Ilka replied, "This was the hideout of the French underground resistance during World War II!"
Xiao Peng, who had been silent the whole time, was also shocked when he heard this: "Ilka, what are you talking about? Did France have a resistance organization during World War II?"
Billy chuckled and said, "It's not much, but it's there... So what's going on now?"
As soon as he finished speaking, they reached the end of the road. Turning the corner, they saw a space of about ten square meters, about two meters high, and completely empty.
Ilka said, “The resistance probably lived here back then.
Xiao Peng complained, "It seems the French are not resisting anymore. How many people can live here?"
Ilka bent down and walked in. Everyone then discovered that there was another staircase leading upwards. After climbing the staircase, they found themselves in a building.
There's more graffiti on the walls and trash on the ground, but you can tell there's been traffic here. The surrounding windows are sealed, but there are lights and everything, so it's bright.
Billy looked around and asked, "Is this the interior of the building that was blocked off when we parked?"
"Yes," Ilka replied.
Xiao Peng looked around and asked, "Where is Yilka?"
Ilka said, "Mr. Xiao, it's on the second floor. The stairs are this way."
Xiao Peng went up the stairs to the second floor with a gloomy face. The atmosphere was oppressive and frightening.
There is a corridor on the second floor, with abandoned rooms on both sides. Doors and the like have long disappeared. The door of the room opposite the corridor has not been removed, but there are all kinds of messy graffiti on it.
Ilka said, "That's the room!"
Just as Xiao Peng and his companions were about to walk over there, they suddenly heard a creepy wailing sound.
Billy took a step back in shock: "What's that noise?"
Screams continued to be heard, accompanied by pleas. Judging from the sound, it was not the voice of one person, but the voice of many people!
Xiao Peng listened and when he reached the door, he took a deep breath to adjust his mood and nodded to Bruch. Bruch pushed open the door and several people walked into the room.
"What the hell is going on?" Billy was shocked when he went in and saw the situation inside: there were many people lying on the ground in a mess, all tied up tightly, including men and women of all races!
What surprised Billy the most was that two of them were still wearing police uniforms, which were now in tatters.
The one who caused their miserable state was actually Kasim! He was now whipping these people with a belt, and the screams were the sounds coming from those being whipped.
Seeing Xiao Peng coming in, Kasim stopped what he was doing.
There was also a man in a white coat in the group of people. Xiao Peng walked straight up to him without saying a word. Just as the man was about to speak, Xiao Peng kicked him, and the man rolled out like a bowling ball!
Originally, the people in the room thought that their savior had arrived, but after seeing this kick, everyone shut their mouths - damn, how could this person be even more ruthless?
