Chapter 1730 A Person Worthy of Respect
Wherever she went, Catherine never forgot to mention that she was a "member of the Yazov family" and she had good reason for it.
In the hearts of the Russian people, at least in the hearts of most Russians today, Yazov is a true hero.
Putting aside his merits and demerits, one thing is certain: he dedicated his entire life to the former Soviet Union and Russia.
Nowadays, when people talk about the collapse of the Soviet Union, they tend to blame Gorbachev and Yeltsin, saying that they ruined the Soviet Union. In fact, the Soviet Union had already been facing various problems since the 1970s and 1980s, and the series of radical reforms implemented by Gorbachev after he came to power only accelerated the collapse of the Soviet Union.
In fact, just before the Soviet Union's collapse, an event occurred that, if successful, could have saved or delayed its dissolution. This event became known as the "August 19th Incident" in Russian history. This event actually succeeded, but it only lasted three days! Speaking of it now, it still brings a sense of regret and confusion.
After observing Gorbachev's reforms, then-Soviet Vice President Yanayev sensed the dire consequences of these policies. Taking advantage of Gorbachev's vacation in Crimea, he staged a coup, declaring him unable to perform his presidential duties due to health reasons. He then appointed acting president and established a State Emergency Committee to exercise full state power, initiating a six-month state of emergency.
The committee consisted of eight people, including him, the then Soviet Prime Minister Pavlov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Defense Council Baklanov, Defense Minister Yazov, Interior Minister Pugo, KGB Chairman Kryuchkov, Chairman of the Soviet Peasants' Union Starodubtsev, and Chairman of the Soviet Union Industrial State Enterprises and Joint Corporations, Construction, Transport and Post and Telecommunications Association Tiziakov.
Essentially, all the top leaders of the Soviet Union at the time, except for the president, stood together to oppose Gorbachev's reforms and save the Soviet Union. And since these eight people were the heads of almost every industry, what could they not accomplish?
They quickly took control of the entire country, including the army, the KGB and a series of other state power organs, and began to exercise state functions.
But they made a fatal mistake, which was not to arrest Gorbachev.
Having been stripped of his power, Gorbachev naturally refused to sit idly by and wait for death. He used various channels to make his voice heard, even going so far as to stand on a tank and give a speech in the streets, mobilizing the people to overthrow the Emergency Committee.
In fact, the Soviet people's morale had already been lost during that period - the media at that time was basically controlled by the West, and a group of "Soviet public intellectuals" who received Western funding were desperately promoting the idea that "democratic countries are good" every day. The Soviet people at that time were eager for the Soviet Union to disintegrate quickly and fall into the arms of the West, so the Soviet citizens at that time began to take to the streets to overthrow the Emergency Committee.
In fact, they still had a chance to save the situation at that time by suppressing the riots.
But let's be honest, regardless of the merits or demerits of those eight individuals, from an outsider's perspective, they were all patriots to the Soviet Union. The then-Defense Minister ordered the soldiers to lay down their weapons and refrain from shooting at civilians, abandoning resistance. Among the eight, Pugo and his wife shot themselves, and the remaining seven were imprisoned and charged with treason, though none of them pleaded guilty. By the time they were pardoned and released, the Soviet Union had already vanished into history.
In fact, the seven people all fared well after their release. After all, after the Soviet Union collapsed, ordinary people realized, "Oh my god, life is worse than before!" Only then did they begin to appreciate their kindness! To appease the people, the Russian authorities at the time also treated these people very well.
Among them, Yazov had to have the best outcome.
Yazov was a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, rising through the ranks thanks to his bravery and numerous military exploits. During the August 19th Incident, he ordered the army not to fire on civilians, preventing widespread bloodshed. Upon his release from prison, he enjoyed immense popularity among the people—but no one dared to employ him.
This isn't surprising, given his immense prestige. If President Yeltsin had appointed him, he would have feared losing his position. However, after the Great Emperor came to power, Yazov enjoyed considerable respect. Today, Yazov can be considered a Russian equivalent of Yue Fei.
From an outsider's perspective, a person who can contribute his entire life to the country deserves respect no matter which country he is from.
By then, respecting Yazov does not mean respecting Yazov’s great-granddaughter!
And if Yazov knew that his descendants kept referring to themselves as "Yazov family" when they went out, he would be in great pain. Xiao Peng was helping him educate his family.
But after Ekaterina knew his thoughts, she must have thought: Who do you think you are? What right do you have to teach me?
"Hey, don't sleep anymore!" It was around 1:30 in the morning when the car arrived at Yarsale Village. After they parked the car in the underground parking lot of the guesthouse, Xiao Peng woke up the two women who were sleeping there.
The two women were pretending to be asleep at first. They had just experienced that and now they were in a car with two strange men - one of whom was the ferocious and terrifying Xiao Peng. How could they sleep peacefully?
What if these two people also covet my beauty? What if they throw me out of the car? They are both pretending to be asleep.
But after listening to Xiao Peng and Ka Xin's conversation, they felt relieved: these two people had no ill intentions towards them. Even if Xiao Peng was so fierce, he was just trying to scare them. With this reassurance, coupled with the bumpy ride, they fell asleep.
"Huh?" Ekaterina and Eugenia rubbed their eyes and sat up.
Xiao Peng said, "We've arrived at Yarsale Village. Aren't you going back to Noyabrsk? Hurry and find a car to go back."
"What about you?" asked Ekaterina.
Xiao Peng replied, "Of course, we're looking for a place to sleep. The Reindeer Festival doesn't start until eight o'clock! Alright, alright, I won't waste my time talking to you. Let's get going!"
He didn't care whether they agreed or not, and immediately kicked them out of the car. Then he and Kashin went to the guesthouse to find a room to rest. However, the Nenets woman at the guesthouse told them: "There are no rooms left!" The last room was booked yesterday evening.
Rooms here all need to be reserved. Xiao Peng and his friends had come on a whim, and had no idea there was such a rule. What should they do now? Should they stay in the car for the night?
Alas, it seems that this is the only thing I can do.
Just when Xiao Peng was hesitating whether to go back to the car, he suddenly saw Ekaterina and the others walking towards him.
Seeing them, Xiao Peng frowned slightly and said, "Aren't you going back? Why are you following me here?"
"I heard you don't have any rooms?"
