Chapter 742 Conferring of Buddhist Status, Unexpected Changes

This journey to the west, though said to be fraught with eighty-one tribulations, was, for these five powerful individuals, nothing more than a transnational expedition lasting over a decade.

After all, the weakest among them was a Celestial Immortal, while Yang Jian and Zi Shou were among the most powerful beings in the prehistoric world.

Along the way, the strongest demons were either the mounts of powerful figures from the Chan or Jie sects, with the strongest being Kong Xuan's younger brother, the Golden-Winged Roc.

As for the other demons, almost none of them could escape Fahai's suppression, and some were even directly destroyed by Fahai.

And so, after a long journey of fourteen years, the five finally arrived at the Great Thunder Temple on the Western Mountain.

This day was the only time in recent years that Vairocana Buddha was filled with smiles.

Despite the many twists and turns and hardships along the way, including the fact that Tang Sanzang had to be replaced midway due to his demonic possession, the journey was ultimately completed successfully.

After the titles were bestowed upon these individuals, this immeasurable calamity officially came to an end.

The Buddhist community flourished as a result of the success of this westward journey.

Subsequently, Vairocana Buddha first conferred upon Fahai the title of Sandalwood Merit Buddha.

Immediately afterwards, Sun Wukong was also bestowed the title of Victorious Fighting Buddha.

As for Ao Lie, the Dragon Prince of the West Sea, he was bestowed the title of Guangli Bodhisattva of the Eight Heavenly Dragons.

Finally, it was Yang Jian and Zi Shou's turn.

Just as the Great Sun Buddha was about to confer Buddhahood upon Yang Jian and Zishou, Yang Jian suddenly stepped forward without hesitation and shouted, "Let's forget about the Buddhahood conferment! Besides, we won't accept it!"

His voice echoed in the air, carrying a resolute attitude.

Upon seeing this, Zi Shou immediately nodded in agreement, his face also filled with determination.

Yang Jian's words instantly darkened the face of the Great Sun Tathagata, and his eyes turned icy cold.

As his aura spread, the surrounding temperature dropped sharply, as if the entire space was enveloped by his chill.

The Great Sun Tathagata said in a cold voice, "The journey to the West was decided by several sages. Since you are the chosen ones to go on this journey."

"After you complete your journey to the West, you will be destined to become a member of Buddhism and enjoy the Buddhahood of Buddhism."

However, Yang Jian was not intimidated by the aura of the Great Sun Tathagata. His eyes became even more determined, and he retorted without backing down, "Sorry! I, Yang Jian, will only ever be a disciple of the Chan Sect in this life."

"I will never betray my sect like some people have done!"

After he finished speaking, his gaze sharpened as he stared directly at Guanyin, Manjushri, Samantabhadra, and the others.

Upon hearing Yang Jian's words, Guanyin, Manjushri, and Samantabhadra's expressions immediately turned solemn, and a barely perceptible killing intent flashed in their eyes.

Zi Shou felt the same way. He said without hesitation, "I can only be a member of the Jie Sect. I am not worthy of a Buddhist position!"

These words resounded like a thunderclap within the Great Thunderclap Temple.

The words of Zi Shou and Yang Jian were like a sharp sword, piercing straight into the heart of Mahavairocana.

His once calm face instantly became ferocious and distorted, and an uncontrollable rage erupted from the depths of his heart.

The Great Sun Tathagata stared wide-eyed at Zi Shou and Yang Jian, his voice filled with anger and authority: "Hmph! Today, you have no choice!"

His voice echoed in the hall, as if the whole world was trembling.

Immediately afterwards, the Great Sun Tathagata waved his sleeve without any mercy, and a powerful force swept over like a storm, heading straight for Zi Shou and Yang Jian.

His intentions were crystal clear—to first imprison these two arrogant fools, and then deal with them slowly.

However, just as Vairocana Buddha made his move, a cold and mocking voice suddenly rang out in the Great Thunder Temple: "I never thought that Buddha, who talks so much about benevolence and morality, would also resort to coercion."

"They really are a bunch of hypocrites."

The voice was as if it came from the deepest hell, cold and piercing, sending chills down one's spine.

As the voice faded, a black light suddenly flashed in the hall.

As the light faded, a group of people with different appearances, cold expressions, and extremely fierce looks appeared before everyone.

They were either bathed in blood, shrouded in black mist, or exuding murderous intent; each of them emanated a terrifying aura.

The person in charge is particularly noteworthy.

He was incredibly handsome, yet exuded an air of evil. Dressed in a magnificent black outfit, he resembled a king of darkness, radiating an aura of power that was impossible to ignore.

Upon seeing this, the Buddha's face instantly showed surprise.

But this surprise lasted only a moment. The next instant, he changed his expression and quickly regained his composure. However, beneath that calm face lay endless anger.

"Tang Sanzang!"

The Great Sun Tathagata roared angrily, his voice echoing throughout the entire Great Thunderclap Temple like thunder.

"You have now fallen into the demonic path, and I have not yet settled this score with you. How dare you lead a group of evil and heretical people to break into my Great Thunderclap Temple!"

"Today is the perfect day. For the sake of all living beings, I will leave you demonic people here forever!"

Having said that, Vairocana Buddha sat upright on his lotus throne, raising one hand slightly.

Suddenly, a dazzling golden light emanated from his palm, within which a huge swastika seal appeared and disappeared.

As the Buddha Vairocana moved, the swastika became clearer and clearer, eventually fully revealed, shimmering with a breathtaking golden light.

With a wave of his arm, the swastika seal, like a meteor, with unparalleled power, pressed straight down on Wutian.
