Chapter 101, Gratitude
Zhang Youyou didn't receive a reply from Meng Xiao, but instead received a call from Li Donghao, who asked where she was. After learning that she was in the dormitory, he told her to come downstairs, and he would wait for her downstairs.
Zhang Youyou hung up the phone, put the chair back under the table, and took her bag downstairs.
As soon as she stepped out of the dormitory, she saw Li Donghao standing by the car, looking at her. In that instant, Zhang Youyou felt as if there were only the two of them in the world, gazing at each other from afar.
Seeing her standing there blankly, Li Donghao curiously walked over, waved his hand in front of her eyes, and laughed, "What are you thinking about?"
Zhang Youyou then came to her senses and followed him blankly.
Actually, she wasn't thinking anything of it. It was just that the scene reminded her of a time when she failed an exam when she was a child. She didn't dare tell her parents or Grandpa Li. The teacher asked her to call her parents, but she didn't dare to mention it. In the end, Li Donghao noticed and went to the school as a parent. After understanding the situation from the teacher, he didn't scold her. He even waited for her to get out of school. That's how he stood at the school gate. She saw him as soon as she came out. At that time, Li Donghao was only a teenager, but he was already mature and steady.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Zhang Youyou secretly glanced at Li Donghao and quickly turned her head away. She glanced at him again and turned her head away once more. When she glanced at him for the third time, Li Donghao finally couldn't help but ask her what was wrong. Zhang Youyou shook her head, pretending to be clueless. Li Donghao was speechless.
When the two arrived at the hospital, Ms. Jiang's son was still receiving an IV drip, but he looked much better today.
"You've arrived!" Teacher Jiang, who hadn't slept all night, looked extremely tired, but still forced herself to stand up and fetch them chairs, only to be stopped by Li Donghao.
"Don't mention it, we just came to take a look!" Li Donghao said.
"Jinhang is all better now. The doctor said he can be discharged after this IV drip is finished." A hint of relief finally appeared on Teacher Jiang's tired face. Then she said to the child lying down, "Jinhang, this is the lady who brought us here yesterday. Quickly thank her!"
The child turned to Zhang Youyou and said, "Thank you, sister!"
Zhang Youyou stood by the bed and looked at him, saying, "You're welcome. Only if you stay healthy can your mother be at ease!"
"Yes, I will!"
Zhang Youyou smiled and patted his head.
Teacher Jiang glanced at his IV drip bottle, and seeing that it was about to run out, immediately ran out to call the nurse. The nurse came in, looked at his name, and said that there was no more medicine and he could be discharged. Teacher Jiang thanked her and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"I'm going to get discharged!" Li Donghao said. Teacher Jiang took out her medical number and thanked him. Li Donghao smiled and took his ID card and medical card to get discharged. Only Teacher Jiang, Jin Hang, and Zhang Youyou were left in the ward. Jin Hang was weak because of his illness and didn't want to talk. Zhang Youyou and Teacher Jiang also didn't have much to say to each other. For a moment, the ward was eerily quiet.
After completing the formalities, Teacher Jiang helped Jinhang sit up. The mother and son put on their coats and, seeing Li Donghao return, got up, took their things, and followed him. Zhang Youyou walked at the back. When Li Donghao turned around, he saw her standing at the door. Li Donghao walked back and pulled her along. Zhang Youyou looked at his profile with curiosity and realized that his profile was so cold and hard, separated by an insurmountable sea.
They escorted Ms. Jiang and her son home. Once home, Ms. Jiang helped her son to his room to rest, while she poured tea and water to thank them, but Li Donghao and Zhang Youyou refused.
Li Donghao was alright, after all, they had known each other for many years and could be considered half colleagues. It was Zhang Youyou who made Teacher Jiang feel a little awkward because of the previous unpleasantness, but Zhang Youyou didn't seem to care at all.
"Alright, it's good that the child is alright. You've been working hard these past few days, so get some rest!" Li Donghao said, winking at Zhang Youyou. Zhang Youyou immediately came to his side and said to Teacher Jiang before leaving, "You still haven't paid me back the money I borrowed from you!"
