Chapter 109, Disconnection
After that day, Li Donghao never appeared in front of Zhang Youyou again, not even on WeChat. At first, Zhang Youyou didn't think much of it, until her roommates and people around her mentioned him from time to time. Only then did Zhang Youyou realize that they hadn't been in contact for more than a month. It seemed that he really didn't want to bother her anymore.
It's clearly a good thing, so why does it feel so empty?
"Youyou! Zhang Youyou!"
Zhang Youyou suddenly woke up and looked at Li Yanyan beside her, "What's wrong?"
"I should be asking you what's wrong! You're just spacing out. Look, your pig's trotters are getting cold!"
Zhang Youyou glanced at the tomato and egg dish and the celery stir-fried with meat on her plate and retorted, "Do I have any pig's trotters here?"
"There are no pig's trotters, but someone's mind is practically wandering out of the cafeteria! Hey, what are you thinking about, so lost in thought?"
Zhang Youyou shook her head as she looked at the food on her plate.
After leaving the restaurant, Li Yanyan went off to her date, while Zhang Youyou, looking dejected, carried her things back to the dormitory. On the way, she ran into Li Donghao. Not only Li Donghao, but also a beautiful woman she had never seen before was with him. The two chatted happily. Li Donghao was carrying a supermarket shopping bag, while the beautiful woman walked on his right with a shy expression.
Zhang Youyou stopped and stood there, staring blankly as they approached. Li Donghao seemed to notice her gaze and looked at her. The beautiful woman who had been laughing and joking with him also looked over when she saw his strange expression. After all, he was the kind of person who had argued with teachers, and she had heard of Li Donghao's reputation because of their past close relationship. However, now that they were facing each other and neither of them was speaking, the beautiful woman didn't feel comfortable interrupting.
Neither of them noticed the beautiful woman's thoughts; they simply gazed at each other. In the end, Zhang Youyou was the first to leave.
As winter approaches, the trees on both sides are already bare, with only a few withered leaves occasionally fluttering in the wind, unable to bring any hint of spring.
Only after Zhang Youyou had walked far away did Li Donghao say expressionlessly, "Let's go."
The beautiful woman didn't know what had happened between them, nor did she want to ask any more questions. She simply remained silent on the way back.
Back in the dorm, she put her things on the table and sat down in a chair, feeling annoyed. She looked at the things on the table and found them unpleasant. The dorm was too cramped and dilapidated. It was more comfortable for her to live here by herself. Was she going to buy a house and a car here too?
When Liu Ping came out of the bathroom, she saw that the girl was absent-minded and gently patted her shoulder.
"What are you thinking about? You look so lost and disoriented."
Zhang Youyou looked at her and simply shook her head.
How could she be alright with such an obvious intention? Liu Ping pulled up a chair and sat down next to her.
"If anything happens, just tell us. We may not be able to help, but at least we can put your mind at ease!"
Seeing her smile made Zhang Youyou feel much better, but how was she supposed to explain this? Besides, they knew that she and Li Donghao were betrothed as children, which made things too difficult.
"It's nothing really, I just thought today's class was really hard, and I'm afraid I'll fail the final exam and get beaten up when I get back." Zhang Youyou made up an excuse, and Liu Ping immediately understood, but still comforted her.
"Actually, it's not too bad. Besides, there are still two months until the end of the semester. Don't worry. I see that our eldest has taken notes. We'll ask her when she gets back!"
Zhang Youyou nodded reluctantly.
Liu Ping knew she wanted to be alone, so she smiled and said, "I'm going to the gym. I'll bring you whatever you want to eat tonight!"
"No."
Liu Ping left, leaving her alone in the dormitory. The sudden silence was a bit overwhelming for her, but she quickly accepted it. However, once she calmed down, she couldn't stop recalling the image of Li Donghao walking together with that beautiful woman.
Is that his girlfriend? Are they together? Will they get married? If they do get married, will his engagement be called off? Were all the things he said before false?
A series of problems kept plaguing her, and Zhang Youyou's CPU was about to burn out.
