Chapter 125, The Past
For Zhang Youyou, Li Donghao was special, so special that she didn't want to face him. It wasn't that she was awkward, but simply because too many people liked him, and he had brought other girls home before.
That was the last thing Zhang Youyou wanted to mention.
Back then, she was still very clingy to him, always bothering him under the guise of studying, and he would always answer patiently. She thought this kind of life would continue until she came of age, but she never expected that he would bring other girls home.
At the age when she was just beginning to experience romantic feelings, she didn't care even though she knew many people liked her, because he had never mentioned other girls at home, nor had he ever brought anyone home. But that day, everything changed.
As usual, Zhang Youyou and Li Dongshuo went home together. On the way, Zhang Youyou was thinking about how to ask questions today. When they got home, they saw the maid bringing juice and fruit upstairs. Li Dongshuo asked her in confusion. The maid said that Li Donghao had brought his classmate home. Zhang Youyou, who was laughing and joking with Li Dongshuo, immediately fell silent. Her eyes unconsciously turned to the entrance hall, where there was a pair of women's white sneakers.
The two exchanged a glance, and Zhang Youyou clenched her fist, feigning politeness as she asked, "What classmate? Male or female?"
The maid was also seeing the young master bring his classmates home for the first time, and she couldn't hide the smile on her face.
"It's a female classmate. The two of them are studying upstairs. Young Master Donghao asked me to bring some fruit up!"
Li Dongshuo threw his schoolbag onto the sofa and waved it off nonchalantly, leaving Zhang Youyou frozen in place.
Lee Dong-seok, completely oblivious to her odd behavior, said with a gossipy grin, "I never thought my brother, that taciturn guy, would actually have a day when he'd see the light. He's truly my brother, so charming!"
As he spoke, he turned to Zhang Youyou and said, "See, I told you my brother couldn't possibly be single. Those guys in our class actually wanted my brother's phone number. What a pipe dream!"
Zhang Youyou didn't hear a word he said; she just wanted to know what the girl that Li Donghao was able to take home looked like.
While Li Dongshuo was still rambling on, Zhang Youyou headed straight for the second floor. Before she even reached Li Donghao's room, she encountered a maid coming out of the room, and Zhang Youyou stopped her.
"What about them?"
They had watched Zhang Youyou grow up and knew her status in the Li family, so they didn't hide it from her.
"They're doing their homework!" The maid looked around, then leaned close to Zhang Youyou's ear and whispered, "They look very close. If you ask me, I think Young Master Donghao might have fallen for her!"
Zhang Youyou felt as if someone was grabbing her chest, making it hard for her to breathe. Not wanting anyone to notice, she waved her hand to dismiss the maid.
She was the only one left in the entire second-floor corridor. Zhang Youyou wanted to knock on the door, but she was afraid of being recognized, so she picked up her schoolbag and went back to her room. She took out an exercise book from the bag and went straight to Li Donghao's room. As usual, she knocked twice and then turned the doorknob.
"Brother Donghao, I have a question I can't answer..." Zhang Youyou adjusted her tone outside the door and entered as usual, but saw two people with their heads close together. Li Donghao's arm was draped over the back of the chair where the girl was sitting, and from the doorway, it looked like he was almost holding her in his arms.
If what the maid said downstairs and in the hallway was a lie, then this is now the undeniable reality, whether she believes it or not, it's right before her eyes.
The two looked over at the same time upon hearing the sound. The girl even moved away from his embrace as if to avoid suspicion. Li Donghao also withdrew his hand. The three of them were in two different directions. Zhang Youyou smiled awkwardly, said "Sorry to bother you" and left, not forgetting to close the door behind him.
Her long-suppressed emotions suddenly collapsed. Zhang Youyou quickly returned to her room and locked the door. Afraid of being overheard, she even hid in the bathroom, turned on the shower, and let her tears fall with the warm water.
The unrequited love that hadn't even sprouted died.
From that day on, she stopped asking Li Donghao any questions and rarely contacted him until he went to university and left home, at which point Zhang Youyou gradually recovered.
