Chapter 13, Inspection
However, once they actually arrived, Zhang Youyou realized she had been tricked. This wasn't a park at all; it was clearly a construction site!
"What are we doing here? Moving bricks?" Zhang Youyou and the butler grandpa stood on either side of the grandfather. Zhang Youyou held onto the grandfather's arm to prevent him from bumping into anything, unaware that Li Donghao was following behind them.
"Are you moving?" Li Donghao's voice came from above.
Zhang Youyou looked at the rows of brick walls taller than herself and shook her head stiffly. Li Donghao couldn't help but rub her head.
"This is a project the company is handling, and Grandpa came to take a look," Li Donghao explained, gently patting her to make room for him. After all, he was young and strong, and it was best to leave the task of helping Grandpa to him. As for Zhang Youyou, it would be good enough if she didn't trip over something.
Zhang Youyou pursed her lips and followed them forward. However, judging from the appearance, it did not seem to be a residential area. After asking a few questions, Zhang Youyou learned that a large library was to be built here, and a large stadium was also to be built nearby. Zhang Youyou pursed her lips, not understanding urban planning.
"Youyou, after graduation, do you want to go back to your hometown or stay here?" Grandpa poked his head out and asked.
Zhang Youyou looked at the cordoned-off area and shook her head. "I haven't decided yet."
Grandpa then turned his gaze to Li Donghao, "And what about you?"
"I don't know either. Maybe I'll stay at the university, or maybe I'll go help out at a company." He hasn't finished his doctoral studies yet, so he doesn't dare to draw any conclusions.
Grandpa said with exasperation, "Then you two can stay here!"
The two looked at their grandfather at the same time, their heads full of question marks. Unfortunately, the grandfather did not answer. He just walked around and looked at things. The butler made a phone call, and soon someone came out, gave each of them a safety helmet, and led them over.
As Li Donghao helped his grandfather, he reminded Zhang Youyou to be careful. Zhang Youyou snorted in dissatisfaction and said that she was not that stupid. Both the grandfather and Li Donghao laughed.
The person in charge simply showed them around the perimeter and explained the current situation. Although the grandfather was old, he was in good spirits, upright, and still exuded a commanding presence. He looked at the busy workers and told the person in charge beside him that in addition to ensuring the quality of the construction site, they should also pay attention to safety. The person in charge readily agreed.
Returning from the construction site, Zhang Youyou felt a dusty smell on her. Her grandfather asked if she felt uncomfortable. Zhang Youyou nodded. Her grandfather patted her head and said, "You only stayed there for a short while and you already feel uncomfortable. Look at those workers. They are surrounded by dust every day. Without them, there would be no skyscrapers or smooth roads. So, don't discriminate against anyone. Everyone is a part of the development of this society."
Zhang Youyou hadn't expected to be lectured just for coming out to check on a construction project, and silently lowered her head. Li Donghao glanced at her in the rearview mirror and smirked.
Although the Li family was well-off and doted on her, they did not skimp on the proper education she received.
Because Li Donghao and Zhang Youyou had classes on Monday, Grandpa and the housekeeper went back on Sunday afternoon, but they still ate lunch at home.
The two accompanied the grandfather to check out of the hotel, then took them home so they could take a shower, while the two of them went to the supermarket to buy groceries.
"I never imagined that Grandpa would still have to go to the construction site to inspect things at his age," Zhang Youyou said with heartache, sitting in the passenger seat.
“Grandpa mainly came to see you; going to the construction site was just a side trip,” Li Donghao explained.
Zhang Youyou looked at him curiously, then turned her head back, deflated.
"What's wrong?"
"I'm starting to regret it." Zhang Youyou's hands were twirling together, and she was caught in a dilemma.
"Regret what?" Li Donghao asked curiously.
"I regret not telling him I was going back to my hometown," Zhang Youyou said. "Grandpa probably wanted me to go back."
Li Donghao remained silent, but what he was thinking was: Grandpa would prefer you to marry into the Li family.
