Chapter 138, Conversation
When the two arrived home, it was past dinner time, but the grandfather chose to wait so that he could have dinner with his grandchildren. Not only that, but Zhang Youyou's mother and Li Dongshuo's mother also waited together.
Zhang Youyou rushed into the house and threw herself into her grandfather's arms, crying as she expressed how much she missed him. Zhang's mother and Li's mother exchanged a smile, already used to such scenes.
Seeing that only his grandfather, mother, and Zhang's mother were home, Li Dongshuo asked why Uncle Zhang wasn't there. Zhang's mother said he had gone to the hospital for his night shift. As for Li's father, he knew without asking that he was still at the company.
The maid helped deliver the items to the room, while Zhang Youyou sat on the sofa with his grandfather and chatted. Li Dongshuo spent some time with the other two, laughing and joking before going to eat.
Zhang Youyou naturally stayed there that night, as did her mother, though she slept in the guest room.
After returning to her room, Zhang Youyou sent a WeChat message to Li Donghao to let him know she was safe. Then she went to take a shower and was about to blow-dry her hair when the doorbell rang. Zhang Youyou had no choice but to open the door and, seeing that it was her mother, invited her in.
When Zhang's mother saw her with a towel on her head, she asked why she hadn't dried her hair. Zhang Youyou said she hadn't had time yet, so she told her to find a place to sit while she went to the bathroom to dry her hair.
Zhang's mother looked at the room's layout. Although it was the same as before, it was obvious that the room's owner had changed.
Zhang Youyou has lived in the Li family for most of the years, to the point that many people have forgotten that she has a daughter. Now that the child is older and can live on her own, and with the winter and summer vacations, the mother and daughter have time to spend together. It's just unknown whether she is willing to go back.
When Zhang Youyou came out, her mother was sitting in a chair staring blankly at the pen holder on her desk—Zhang Youyou's desk was exceptionally clean, with nothing but the pen holder and the stationery inside.
"What are you looking at?" Zhang Youyou asked.
Zhang's mother turned around, smiled, and said it was nothing. She got up, pushed the chair in, and continued, "Your table is so clean!"
Zhang Youyou found a bathrobe and wrapped it around herself, saying nonchalantly, "My things are all in the study." After saying that, she left and returned a little while later carrying a laptop bag, from which she took out her laptop and tablet and placed them on the table.
"Didn't you go to the meeting?" This time, Zhang Youyou sat in a chair and asked her to sit on the sofa.
"No, there's not much to do this year."
Over the years, due to work, she and her father have rarely spent time with Zhang Youyou, which has resulted in her not being very close to them.
Even the lively Zhang Youyou didn't know what to say. She really had very few topics to talk about with her parents, even fewer than Li Donghao.
"You," Zhang's mother began, not wanting the atmosphere to become awkward, "how's your school? Are the dorms nice? How do you get along with your classmates?"
"It's alright, Li Donghao is over there, I can stay at his place." Thinking of Li Donghao, Zhang Youyou picked up her phone to check if he had replied to her messages, but unfortunately, he hadn't. Zhang Youyou was a little disappointed.
Mentioning Li Donghao reminded Zhang's mother of the arranged marriage between their children. Although it was an agreement made by Grandpa Li and Grandpa Zhang, they would still respect Zhang Youyou's opinion if she disagreed. So Zhang's mother steered the conversation to her relationship with the two Li brothers, and Zhang Youyou didn't shy away from the topic.
"Wouldn't it be inconvenient for you to stay at his place?"
"What's inconvenient about it? He's rarely home."
"Wouldn't it be awkward if he brought his girlfriend home?"
“He doesn’t have a girlfriend,” Zhang Youyou said firmly.
How did you know?
Zhang Youyou finally looked up at her mother. Her mother realized that she had asked too directly, but Zhang Youyou didn't care.
"First, he said he didn't have one. Second, he and I are betrothed since childhood, and his grandfather is keeping him in check, so he doesn't dare to date random girls. Third, he's always cooped up in the lab, so how many girls would want to be with him?"
Zhang Youyou's answer left his mother speechless, while Zhang Youyou himself gave himself a thumbs up in his heart, after all, his skill in making up lies had improved again.
For some reason, she just didn't want them to know that she was dating Lee Dong-ho; perhaps the test for him wasn't over yet.
