Chapter 148, The Watch

Chapter 148, The Watch

The two went to the mall. Zhang Youyou browsed through each floor and bought bracelets, watches and clothes. Ji Huai'an watched her carefully selecting items and occasionally offered suggestions, but Zhang Youyou wouldn't listen. It wasn't until she said she was tired and needed to rest that the two found a milk tea shop to stop and rest.

Ji Huai'an looked at her curiously, but she continued drinking her milk tea, completely unaffected by his gaze, which made Ji Huai'an restless.

Don't you want to say anything?

Zhang Youyou looked up, the straw falling from her mouth. She smacked her lips and said quietly, "Can I order another drink?"

Ji Huai'an became increasingly curious about what kind of man could win her over.

"You didn't buy all this stuff for your boyfriend, did you?"

"Is there a problem?"

"There's no problem, but as a girl, you should be a little more reserved. You can reciprocate appropriately based on what he gave you."

“Our business is none of anyone else’s business,” Zhang Youyou retorted. “This milk tea is awful.” She then packed her things to leave, reminding him not to see her off before she left.

All guests are welcome, and besides, he hadn't gotten anything substantial out of her yet, so he certainly wouldn't let it go. He glanced at the half-full cup of milk tea left and immediately got up to chase after her to help her carry her things, but she refused.

Are you angry?

"No, it's just that I don't like being judged or criticized, and I don't like others judging or criticizing my family and friends."

He's got quite a temper. Oh well, it was his rudeness, so he apologized.

Zhang Youyou didn't refuse, and with a tilt of her chin, she said, "I'm tired, take me home."

"twitter!"

On the way back, Zhang Youyou remained silent. Ji Huai'an wanted to break the silence but didn't know what to say, so they remained silent together.

When the car arrived at the hotel entrance, Zhang Youyou got out and took out her things from the back seat. Ji Huai'an wanted to help, but by the time he went around to her, Zhang Youyou had already taken everything out. He had no choice but to stand there, and Zhang Youyou handed him the bag containing the watch.

"Here, your gift."

She had been silent the whole way, thinking she never wanted to see him again, but unexpectedly there was a gift. Ji Huai'an didn't reach out.

"What's the meaning?"

"Consider this a thank you for spending time with me today," Zhang Youyou said. "Here you go!"

Ji Huai'an took it, looked at it, and said with a smile, "I thought this was for your boyfriend."

It was just a polite remark, perhaps with a touch of teasing, but she replied without hesitation, "He doesn't like this brand."

Okay, this girl's mouth is unbeatable.

"Alright then, since it was a gift from a beautiful woman, I must treasure it!"

"It's just a watch, it's not worth much money."

Ji Huai'an didn't know how to answer, after all, he had scanned the watch before paying and found it cost five figures. Being so generous to someone he'd just met—was this girl genuinely wealthy or just naive? Either way, he accepted it.

"Alright, I'm going back now. You should go home early too. As for Xuanxuan, if it gets late, let her stay with me."

So, the reason she gave him the watch was to steal his girl away? He wouldn't dare do that.

"No way." Ji Huai'an held the bag up to her and said righteously, "Don't think you can bribe me with a watch. No matter how late it is, Ji Yuxuan has to come home with me!"

Zhang Youyou glanced at him and said helplessly, "It doesn't matter, then you can only wait downstairs." After saying that, she went to the front desk to get a spare room card and went upstairs.

Ji Huai'an drove to the parking lot but didn't get out. Instead, he called Ji Yuxuan. Ji Yuxuan said they were at the tourist park and planned to stroll around before going to eat. She asked if he had eaten and if he wanted to come along. Ji Huai'an immediately agreed and even said he would bring Zhang Youyou along. Ji Yuxuan agreed and said she would tell him where to eat later.

After hanging up the phone, Ji Huai'an was about to put his phone on the passenger seat when he saw the bag containing the watch. After thinking for a moment, he took it out.
