Chapter 74, Fever
At first, Li Donghao thought she was tired and had fallen asleep, but he realized something was wrong when he got a blanket to cover her up.
Her cheeks were flushed, her arms were crossed, and her body was trembling. Li Donghao's hand instinctively touched her forehead, only to find that it was burning hot.
She has a fever!
Terrified upon reaching this conclusion, Li Donghao disregarded everything else and immediately carried her from the sofa back to the bed. When he helped her take off her shoes, he noticed that her leggings were particularly thin. Li Donghao muttered to himself, "No wonder she has a fever," but he still brought a thick blanket to cover her up, then went to boil water to find fever-reducing medicine, and finally took her temperature with an ear thermometer.
38.7℃. He had originally planned to give her fever-reducing medicine, but given her current condition, they probably needed to go to the hospital. With no other option, Li Donghao wrapped her in his down jacket, then took his phone and carried her downstairs.
Zhang Youyou had fallen into a coma and couldn't sit still in her seat. Li Donghao fastened her seatbelt and grabbed two thick coats to shield her from falling. He kept glancing back while driving. Finally, they arrived at the hospital, and Li Donghao carried her inside. Upon seeing this, the nurse immediately brought him a wheelchair and asked what had happened. Li Donghao said she had a fever and was now unconscious. The nurse told him to register and then take them for examination.
Li Donghao sat by the bedside, looking at the unconscious Zhang Youyou with worry on his face. Holding her hand, which wasn't receiving an IV drip, he felt a pang of sadness. He thought he had only taken her away from those people, but he hadn't expected it to make her sick. Such a lively girl was now lying in a hospital bed, and Li Donghao began to doubt his own actions.
He wanted to be good to her, but that might not be what she wanted.
“Grandpa!” Zhang Youyou suddenly murmured. Li Donghao wiped his eyes, stood up, and looked down at her.
"Youyou, what did you say?"
"Grandpa!" Zhang Youyou repeated, then groaned, "It hurts!"
Li Donghao's pupils constricted. "Where does it hurt? Ah, tell me where it hurts?"
Zhang Youyou seemed to be in great pain; her brows were furrowed, and she looked like she was about to cry. "It hurts!"
Li Donghao looked around but couldn't figure out where she was in pain, so he ran out to find a nurse. The nurse checked her over, made sure the IV drip was working, then checked her eyes and took her temperature. She simply said that she was probably feeling unwell due to a fever and that she would be fine once the fever subsided. Li Donghao didn't know anything about medicine, so he could only listen to the nurse.
Zhang Youyou has always been the one who hurts others, never herself. Li Donghao felt guilty and didn't know what to do, so he could only stay with her and silently rub her hands.
After two IV drips, Zhang Youyou's fever finally subsided, and she opened her eyes. Li Donghao immediately went up to her and asked if she felt unwell anywhere. Zhang Youyou looked at him without speaking, her eyes full of confusion. Li Donghao didn't dare to provoke her, so he could only coax her by saying that she had a fever and was receiving IV fluids at the hospital, and that she would be able to go home soon. Zhang Youyou didn't seem to understand, staring at him for a while before closing her eyes. Li Donghao remained silent.
After the IV drip was finished and she underwent further examinations to confirm that she was alright, they took her home. On the way back, Zhang Youyou was unsteady on her feet. Li Donghao offered to carry her, but she refused, so he had to help her back to the car. Zhang Youyou sat in the passenger seat, leaning against the back of the car, staring blankly out the window. Unlike yesterday, she had no emotions today, like a soulless doll.
When they got home, Li Donghao took her to her room to rest, while he went to cook her some porridge, but she refused.
“Youyou, I…” Li Donghao wanted to apologize to her but didn’t know how to start.
"I'm tired, I want to sleep."
Li Donghao wanted to say something, but in the end, he respected her wishes, covered her with the blanket, and left.
Lying in bed, tears streamed down her face, soaking her pillow. Her body ached, and her heart ached. Zhang Youyou wanted to go home, but she wasn't on holiday.
My arms ached, but I still gripped the blanket with both hands. My eyes were sore and strained, so I stared at them for a while before closing them.
It hurts! I'm so tired!
