Gu Yulin ignored her and simply hugged the Ultraman in her arms even tighter.
When he moved, Xu Zhaozhao felt much relieved.
"Baby fish, why aren't you talking to Mommy?"
Xu Zhaozhao leaned down and lay down next to Gu Yulin. "Tell Mom that Mom will definitely change."
The hand that was rubbing his head slowly moved to his shoulder and patted him gently.
Gu Yulin didn't answer her, and Xu Zhaozhao didn't speak either, but just patted his back lightly.
"No."
After an unknown amount of time, a muffled sound came from under the covers, so faint that it was hard to hear clearly.
Xu Zhaozhao paused, thinking she had misheard.
Gu Yulin finally poked his head out from under the covers, turned around gently, and let Xu Zhaozhao see his face clearly.
Her eyes were red and swollen from crying. Her little face was covered in tear stains, and her lips were slightly pouting in grievance.
He removed his hand from Ultraman and took Xu Zhaozhao's hand in his.
Xu Zhaozhao was usually warmed by him, but today she felt coldness in his small hands.
Why are you crying, baby?
Xu Zhaozhao panicked and tried to reach out to wipe his tears, but then realized that her right hand was being held in his hand.
They froze for a moment.
"Mom, I thought you didn't want me anymore..."
Gu Yulin moved Ultraman aside and snuggled into Xu Zhaozhao's arms.
Her long eyelashes trembled slightly, like a little hedgehog curled up in insecurity.
He held Xu Zhaozhao's hand with one hand and her clothes with the other, as if she would disappear from his sight if he let go.
Xu Zhaozhao had no choice but to use her other hand to reach around to his back and pat him gently.
"Silly fish, Mommy will always be with you."
She leaned down and kissed his cheek.
For a moment, Xu Zhaozhao was lost in thought.
Could it be that my staying out all night gave Yu Yu this misconception?
But I left him a little note, and he didn't react this strongly the last time we went out...
"Mom is lying."
Gu Yulin buried his head even deeper, not daring to look up at Xu Zhaozhao.
She no longer wanted Gu Qingyan, nor did she want him anymore.
Everything Yin Qi said came true.
His memory immediately returned to that day in the lounge.
The lounge is filled with small toys, specifically designed to help them pass the time.
He was dragged by Xiao Kai to build with blocks.
After three layers were erected, Yin Qi opened the door and walked in.
He seemed to know them very well, and naturally greeted them, "Hello, Yu Yu, Xiao Kai."
"I am a new guest, my name is Yin Qi."
Both of them greeted him very politely.
He walked straight to the wooden table with the building blocks, sat down next to the two of them, and asked, "Can I play with you?"
This building block table wasn't made exclusively for them, so of course they had no reason to refuse.
Two little kids and one big kid—this combination looks a bit awkward.
Yin Qi picked up a building block, playing with the rectangular block in his hand, but hesitated to put it down.
"Gu Yulin, I know you."
Thump.
Gu Yulin slammed the building blocks he had just picked up back onto the table, looked up at Yin Qi, and frowned.
He had never met Yin Qi before, so it was normal for this person to know him online.
But he has never revealed his real name online, so how did he find out?!
"I don't know you."
Gu Yulin stopped what he was doing and looked at Yin Qi.
Yin Qi didn't care at all, instead smiled and said something that he found very strange.
You really don't recognize me now.
Gu Yulin frowned even more deeply and did not answer him, but Yin Qi continued speaking on his own.
"Fish? That's a nice nickname for you."
He looked away from Gu Yulin and changed the subject, "Your parents are probably getting a divorce soon, right?"
Clang.
The rectangular block he was holding fell to the ground, and the stack of blocks he had just built collapsed completely.
A gloating voice followed the sound of the building blocks collapsing, "What a pity, it's a pathetic wretch nobody wants."
Thump!
Gu Yulin slammed her little fist on the table, glaring at Yin Qi, "Stop lying, Mommy won't abandon me!"
He didn't mention Gu Qingyan, only Xu Zhaozhao.
"Don't believe me? That day will come soon."
Yin Qi stood up, picked up a wet wipe from the table, and wiped his hands as if he had touched something dirty.
"Admit it, your arrival was a mistake."
"You big bad guy, you big liar! You're the one who's wrong, you're the one who's wrong! Brother Fish can only be right!"
Xiao Kai didn't understand much of what the two were saying, but he understood the last sentence.
It's bad if the teacher says something wrong.
He clenched his little fists and waved his chubby little hands haphazardly at Yin Qi not far away, like Ultraman fighting a giant monster on TV.
It was obvious that Yin Qi wasn't interested in him; he merely glanced at him before throwing the wet wipe into the trash can.
"Gu Yulin, we'll wait and see."
Yin Qi's eyes gleamed with an unwavering determination to win.
Gu Yulin's face was cold, and his turbulent emotions almost overwhelmed him.
"Kids, you can come in now!"
The staff called from outside the door.
It was as if it were an escape route for him; he almost fled in panic in front of Yin Qi.
Xiao Kai chased after him, telling him not to pay attention to what Yin Qi said.
How could I not care...
The moment he saw Yin Qi, those words came to mind, enough to ruin all his good mood.
When Yin Qi later proposed "family swapping," his first reaction was that he wanted to ruin the relationship between his parents.
When the director, or rather, Grandma, asked him what his concerns were, he couldn't answer.
He shook his head sensibly, "No, I'm willing to switch with him."
She also had her own selfish motives; she wanted to prove to Yin Qi that his parents had a good relationship and that he wouldn't be unwanted...
But just last night, everything Yin Qi mentioned happened so quickly.
His parents are really getting a divorce.
He secretly pieced the pieces back together. The divorce agreement stated that he would have custody of the child from the Gu family.
So... Mom really doesn't want him anymore.
Gu Yulin woke up especially early the next day. He wanted to wait for his mother to get up, to be affectionate with her, and to ask her to take him with her when she left.
He searched the entire villa but couldn't find Xu Zhaozhao.
I ran around the entire villa again, and while going up the stairs, I accidentally bumped my knee; it hurt a lot…
Finally, he found the little note his mother had left for him in front of his own door.
However, the words above had already taken on a different meaning in Gu Yulin's eyes.
He tore off the note, locked the door, picked up the first gift his mother had given him, and cried silently in bed.
His mother left, leaving him a small note before departing.
His mother didn't want him anymore.
