Chapter 51 "Starving"

Chapter 51 "Starving"

After nearly a month of filming, the crew moved from the west side of the film studio to the east side, planning to film all the scenes in the hospital wards first.

On the first day after the change of location, two uninvited guests arrived on set.

"Cut it out, that's fine. We'll switch to camera C and do another take in a bit. Everyone, take a break."

Zhang Linzhi stepped out from behind Yu Jianshan, raised her chin, and called out to Wen Jia, "Baby." As she spoke, she draped the down jacket over Wen Jia's shoulders.

Wen Jia seemed a little dazed, still not quite out of character. "Sister, what brings you here?"

"Let me give you an answer."

What reply?

“Twenty-five percent of the shares.” Zhang Linzhi rubbed her fingers together.

"You agree to partner with me?" Wen Jia's eyes, which had been dazed, became clear and bright.

"I've thought about what you said for a long time, and it makes some sense. But the main reason is that since you left, I can't say that Wen Jia is under my command anymore. I'd lose face and lose all my dignity."

Wen Jia glanced at her, "...Come on, can't you just say you can't bear to part with me?"

"Alright, alright, I'm reluctant to part with you." Zhang Linzhi pushed her to sit on a rest chair, looking a little melancholy. "Actually, I... had a little conflict with Lao An."

"What do you mean? We had a fight and then you decided to be with me, and I'm just a backup option?"

“What backup plan?” Zhang Linzhi wasn’t in the mood for jokes. “I’m completely heartbroken. Lao An only has eyes for Jin Yan now. He’s completely biased. He wants to take everything away from this new darling. I told him that we’ve nurtured the other artists in the company bit by bit, and he gave me a hard time, saying that the company needs to make money, not be a place for sentimentality, and that if I keep acting on my emotions, I’m fired.”

Wen Jia laughed incredulously twice, "And then you're really going to get out of here."

"I won't leave and fawn over him. I won't do it. And that's not all. What I can't stand the most is that on the day we argued, I said you decided to leave, and he didn't show any regret. Instead, he told me that it was good that you left, so that he could concentrate all your previous resources on Jin Yan and make sure to make Jin Yan a top star."

My temper flared up instantly. I said, "President An, isn't this incredibly disrespectful? Wen Jia hasn't even left yet and you're already undermining her? I'm not a pawn in your game, and artists aren't commodities you can just switch around!"

He turned around and protested, accusing me of being unreasonable, emotional, and ignorant of the rules. Me, ignorant of the rules? In all my years at this company, the only rule I've ever heard of is him showing favoritism and treating me like a pushover?

Zhang Linzhi became more and more excited as she spoke, her voice rising involuntarily. She was about to stand up when Wen Jia pressed her down, saying, "Is this Jin Yan's birth chart auspicious for him? Why do we have to support her like this?"

Zhang Linzhi sneered, "If Jin Yan's birth chart is favorable to him, then my birth chart clashes with his. We've argued hundreds of times in the past few years, and this is the first time I've had the thought of leaving Xing Shuo."

"Are you really determined?"

Zhang Linzhi nodded without hesitation.

"So how do you plan to explain this to the company?"

“I’m much freer than you. There are no unfair contracts. It’s just that after leaving the company, I have to stay out of this industry for a period of time, about three months.”

"What about the one under your command?"

“I wanted to discuss this with you,” Zhang Linzhi hesitated for a moment, “The company will probably need to sign people in the future, right? After all, it’s not a personal studio anymore, so why don’t you consider him?”

"Who? Zhong Rui?"

Zhang Linzhi nodded.

"He's not planning to renew his contract either?"

“He signed a five-year contract, which is expiring this year, but it wasn’t me who forced him to leave; he wanted to leave on his own.”

Wen Jia was a little embarrassed. "Do you trust me that much? I haven't even gotten up yet, and you already have people under your command."

Zhang Linzhi clicked her tongue and said, "You don't have confidence in yourself, but you need to have confidence in me."

Her statement wasn't meant to be arrogant; objectively speaking, Zhang Linzhi is definitely one of the top-tier talent agents in the industry. She entered the business at twenty-four and has been in it for over a decade, with every artist she's managed achieving phenomenal success.

The stars under her management are few in number but of exceptional quality.

This is also one of the main reasons why Wen Jia tried so hard to poach her.

Currently, besides Wen Jia, there is also Zhong Rui under her management. Although he has not yet reached the top level, he has at least stepped into the threshold of becoming a leading actor, so he can be considered a promising talent.

“We’ll discuss this in more detail later, let’s put it off for now,” Wen Jia said, her mind not on Zhong Rui. “I heard from Zhou Jingcheng that Zhong Rui’s sister…”

She didn't say the rest.

All she remembered from what she overheard in Zhou Jingcheng's car was that Zhong Lan was kept by a sugar daddy, who paid her a lot of money every month, and then other men took a liking to her, and the sugar daddy gave her away on the spot.

"What did Zhou Jingcheng say?"

"He said that Zhong Lan was being kept at home by a famous director, who gave her a million a month. But the director got tired of her recently, and someone at a dinner party took a liking to her, so he just sent her away. Is that true?"

Wen Jia and Zhang Linzhi huddled together, whispering to each other.

"That damned Zhou Jingcheng is quite well-informed; even within the industry, not many people know this."

"So it's true?"

"Really? But it probably wasn't as exaggerated as a million a month, maybe 800,000. She's completely retired from the entertainment industry now, living a peaceful life. I heard she even had a child with that director. She's quite virtuous, taking care of her husband and child every day, but if you ask us which husband she's with, none of us can say. Now this guy wants to marry her, so she'll probably have another child. She's gone along with the man, putting her uterus and belly in the womb, she can't make her own decisions anymore. She doesn't act anymore, she lives a life of dependence, maybe she still has to depend on the man's mood." Zhang Linzhi seemed to feel sorry for her, "No wonder they say marrying someone unfavorable is like swallowing needles."

"It's such a pity. When I worked with her before, Director Chen said that she was the most likely to become a new leading lady in this era."

“Who says otherwise? Didn’t I tell you about that second sister in the company before? If she hadn’t gotten married, she would probably be a hot commodity in the entertainment industry now, with everyone vying for her. Why would she be fighting with others for an endorsement like this?” Zhang Linzhi’s eyes widened slightly, and she shook her head, her tone full of regret. “It really is true that choice is more important than effort.”

After she finished speaking, there was a moment of silence between them, as they both considered their words. Zhang Linzhi seemed to realize that what she had said was inappropriate, and nudged her with her elbow, "Should I have said this in front of you? You're practically halfway into a wealthy family."

Wen Jia paused noticeably, for some reason, all she could think of was Xu Bozheng's face.

She didn't dare let out such a long line, "with half a foot hanging in the air, I don't know if I'll step in."

Zhang Linzhi sensed the hidden meaning in her words and, in a flash, understood what was going on. "What, are you two having a fight? Or have you met his parents?"

“No,” Wen Jia’s gaze was unfocused, and she suddenly felt a void in her heart, as if something was missing. “It’s too early to meet my parents now. I haven’t thought that much about it or that far ahead. Actually, the main thing is… I’m not very brave to meet them.”

"Aren't you very afraid to meet? Why?"

Wen Jia shook her head, not answering her, but resting her head on her shoulder. "Sister, how come I never realized before that it's actually quite difficult for two people to fall in love?"

She wouldn't talk about her difficulties, and Zhang Linzhi didn't force her. He simply put his arm around her shoulder to comfort her, and was about to say a few kind words when his thoughts were interrupted by a bright, girlish voice:

"Hello Director Yu, it's nice to see you again."

Wen Jia looked in the direction of the sound and saw another uninvited guest—

A young girl whose entire being was enveloped in an understated sense of extravagance.

-

In principle, it is absolutely impossible for Xu Yitang to sneak into the Yu Jianshan film set.

However, since her older brother is an investor, he can use the excuse of visiting the set to send someone in, and no one dares to say a word.

But this wasn't Xu Shaoting's intention; it was purely her own gossip, wanting to meet her future sister-in-law and enjoying the excitement.

She was well protected from a young age and rarely appeared in the media. In the entire crew, from top to bottom, probably only Yu Jianshan and Shen Zhiyun knew her. The rest of the staff stopped what they were doing and looked at the girl who had made the sound.

Xu Yitang wasn't wearing the crew's standard down jacket, but she professionally wore a work badge from the film studio around her neck.

Wen Jia was not far from her. She glanced at it and saw that there was only an English name on it.

Yu Jianshan introduced himself in a grand manner: "This is my friend's younger sister. The little girl is interested in movies and came here to learn."

He wasn't wrong; she really is his friend's sister.

After saying this, he hesitated, unsure whether he should reveal her identity as the second young lady of the Xu family.

Xu Yitang adopted the demeanor of a wealthy young lady, smiled demurely twice, and immediately replied, "Hello everyone, just call me Eva."

The film crew is a mixed bag, with many visitors every day. They're used to set visits, and as long as it doesn't interfere with the filming schedule, everything is fine. They have no interest in people who get in through connections or back channels.

After listening to Yu Jianshan's introduction, everyone turned their heads indifferently and went about their own business.

Yu Jianshan knew about Xu Shaoting and Shen Zhiyun's past. He looked at the latter meaningfully and said, "You should know her?"

Shen Zhiyun covered her lips with the script, "I know him, Director Yu."

"Don't make a fuss about it yet."

Shen Zhiyun nodded.

After a half-hour break on set, it was time to get back to work, Yu Jianshan shouted into the director's microphone.

Wen Jia took off her down jacket and handed it to Yu Kaiqing, revealing a blue and white striped hospital gown. The warmth she had managed to build up instantly dissipated, and she shivered from the cold, but she was used to it.

She lay back down on the hospital bed and read the script for a while.

The lines in this scene aren't difficult; the challenge lies in conveying the emotions.

Feng Yingxue has entered the palliative care stage and has little time left to live. She doesn't like noise, so Chen Xu decided to give her a simple and quiet wedding at the end of her life, so that there would be no regrets between the two of them.

Feng Yingxue's love for Chen Xu is a conscious indulgence. She is intoxicated by Chen Xu's warmth, yet she rationally knows that she is a lover on a countdown. It is this rationality that leads to her hesitation, reluctance, unwillingness, and caution. It is not an easy thing to blend these emotions on one face.

Yu Jianshan deliberately slowed down the pace to give the main characters room to develop their characters.

To echo the film's title, this scene was originally planned to be filmed on a snowy day. The production team had been watching the weather forecast for a week and finally decided on today. Fortunately, the weather was blessed, and Yungang had its second snowfall in nearly five years today. It wasn't heavy, but it was white enough.

"Get into character and try to get it right in one take. This snow might stop anytime, or it might start again, so don't delay things." Yu Jianshan's voice came from outside the set.

After Wen Jia finished rehearsing with Song Yanlin, she nodded to the audience outside the set.

Yu Jianshan raised the megaphone and announced, "Script supervisor, take your position."

The clapperboard was photographed.

On the monitor, the camera cast a soft light as Chen Xu lifted Feng Yingxue's frail body into a wheelchair and pushed her onto the balcony. Snowflakes drifted down, landing on Feng Yingxue's hair and eyelashes; her face was so pale it seemed to blend into the pure white.

She looked at him, puzzled.

Chen Xu knelt on one knee in front of Feng Yingxue. He wasn't wearing a suit, just a neat sweater, and held her cold hand tightly. "I told you I would give you a wedding, do you remember?"

Feng Yingxue's smile was pessimistic, her eyes were lifeless and empty. "I can't stay with you for much longer."

Chen Xu shook his head, took out two plain rings, one large and one small, from his pocket, and grasped her stiff hand. Just as he was about to slip them onto her ring finger, her hand twitched slightly.

He looked up at her and saw tears in the corners of her eyes.

Feng Yingxue's condition had worsened, and she was unable to move around much; her tears meant resistance.

"Are you rejecting me?" he asked incredulously.

Feng Yingxue was still crying, "I can't be with you."

"I don't care."

Tears streamed down her cheeks. "You deserve better, Chen Xu."

Chen Xu became somewhat hurried, and without thinking, slipped the ring onto her ring finger, took her hand in his, looked at her, and spoke sincerely.

"Miss Feng Yingxue, in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, until the end of your life, would you be willing to let me accompany you on your final journey?"

Feng Yingxue didn't speak again, but blinked slowly. After a long while, she finally stopped crying.

He understood her, and finally smiled with joy, putting his arm around her shoulder.

The film set was extremely quiet.

Offstage, Xu Yitang sat next to Yu Jianshan, watching.

The plot is quite touching, if you ignore who the male lead is.

She took a picture of the set and sent it to Xu Shaoting: "Brother, you really should have been here."

The photographer zoomed out to a distant view.

"Click, that's a good shot." Yu Jianshan nodded in satisfaction. "This one is very good."

Everyone present breathed a sigh of relief upon receiving a pass from Yu Jianshan.

Wen Jia's performance was incredibly nuanced. Sitting motionless in her wheelchair, she conveyed grief, numbness, and despair entirely through her facial expressions and tears.

The acting was flawless. Producer Lin, watching from the sidelines, also had tears in his eyes.

The "click" had already been made, and Wen Jia was about to stand up when she felt a resistance.

Song Yanlin's voice rang in my ears, "The publicity for the drama is being filmed."

Wen Jia sat back down, but her peripheral vision caught a glimpse of the drama director walking away. She then pulled away, wiped her tears, and broke free from his embrace without hesitation.

Fortunately, Kaiqing arrived at the set in time, took her hand, and helped her to rest.

Wen Jia only told Yu Kaiqing about Song Yanlin's persistent entanglement that time. After that, every time a scene was filmed, she would rush into the set to separate the two of them.

Yu Kaiqing was so angry her liver hurt. She had already written a draft in her memo and secretly collected some evidence, ready to expose it when the time was right. She had also thought of telling Xu Shaoting several times, but Wen Jia stopped her each time, saying, "Don't tell him yet."

It wasn't that she didn't want to speak up, or that she didn't want to vent her grievances and disgust. But she wasn't sure what Shao Ting would do. If this only affected Song Yanlin personally, Wen Jia might have let it go without hesitation. But he was now tied to the interests of the production team; if one of them got into trouble, the whole team would suffer. She had to weigh the pros and cons.

-

When Xu Shaoting received Xu Yitang's message, he was listening to Lin Youzhe's report.

He opened the picture she sent; it was blurry, but he could still make out the figures of a man and a woman embracing.

Xu Shaoting only cares about one question:

"Is this on screen or off screen?"

Xu Yitang didn't understand her brother's subtext: "Of course it's in the play. If it were outside the play, would I dare to film this for you?"

Xu Shaoting rephrased the question more directly: "Did he cross the line?"

Xu Yitang reported everything: "Based on my observation over the past half day, there hasn't been any. My sister-in-law's assistant will arrive promptly after filming, and that man won't dare to cause any trouble."

God knows how complicated her feelings were watching Wen Jia and Song Yanlin filming; perhaps she felt no better than Xu Shaoting.

On one side is his sister-in-law, and on the other side is his own family.

The trenches were assigned to specific units.

The relative importance of each is self-evident.

Xu Shaoting looked at the words "sister-in-law" and smiled. In a good mood, he transferred a large sum of money to her as a "change of address fee".

Her purse jingled as she chuckled twice. Accustomed to being a greedy swindler, she wasn't satisfied: "If anything comes up, I'll let you know. One million for every word, guaranteed to be a verbatim recitation. How about it?"

Xu Shaoting had never done such an easy business deal before: "Deal!"

"No abnormalities found at present"

"Five million"

...

"We need to close a deal first, otherwise how will I know if you're reliable?"

Xu Shaoting chuckled. It was the first time he had ever seen a client question a client, and he found it intriguing, but there was nothing he could do about it.

"Secretary Lin will call you later."

Although Xu Yitang was greedy, he still had some conscience. He felt that relying on himself to report information was not a long-term solution, so he asked, "Brother, aren't you coming to visit the set?"

Upon seeing this message, Xu Shaoting lost all interest in listening to Lin Youzhe's report.

He did come to Yungang once recently, but it wasn't a proper visit to the film set.

That day, he got off the plane at 10 p.m.

After finishing work, Wen Jia didn't go back to her room as usual. Instead, she was fully armed with a hat and mask and waited in the hotel's underground parking garage.

The man's voice came through the phone, "Wait for me in Area A, five minutes."

To avoid her colleagues, he deliberately bypassed the hotel where the film crew was staying and booked a five-star suite elsewhere.

He arrived even faster than she expected; within two or three minutes, a black Rolls-Royce braked lightly and stopped in front of her.

There's no need to honk the horn; the license plates are still consecutive, making them very easy to recognize.

Before she could even reach for the back door handle, the man inside opened the car door, revealing a long, broad hand that grasped her arm and then supported her entire weight, gently pulling her inside.

By the time she realized what was happening, she had already fallen completely into his lap, and all she heard was the slam of the car door closing.

Xu Shaoting said nothing, ripped off her mask, grabbed her chin tightly, and kissed her fiercely. The only sounds in the back of the car were her soft moans and the sucking of their lips. Fortunately, the car had a partition that had been raised, so the driver couldn't hear.

She didn't know how long they kissed, but the scenery outside the car window was already completely unfamiliar. She felt as if the man had taken away all the air around her, making it so thin that she couldn't breathe. She tried to push him away, but she couldn't move him.

He had no intention of letting her off so easily.

Still on the train, unable to have sex with that other mouth, I had to compensate with this one, and so the offensive became increasingly fierce.

He kissed her and felt her reactions before finally stopping, still wanting more.

He kissed her until her lips turned pink.

Wen Jia's eyes were glazed over as she nestled in his arms, panting. She shifted her body slightly, feeling the height of his erection beneath his expensive suit trousers.

This was too outrageous. She gasped, and in an instant, she had already imagined what would happen to her that night.

She asked intriguingly, "Are you that hungry?"

Xu Shaoting buried his face in her chest, chuckled, and said in a low, hoarse voice, "I'm starving."

The suite was on the top floor, and there were few guests. A man and a woman walked along the empty corridor, kissing as they moved. Neither of them could control themselves, and their leather shoes and red-soled patent leather high-heeled boots walked haphazardly.

Finally finding the room, Wen Jia was in a daze and knew nothing. She only knew that the lights in the entire bedroom were off and that Xu Shaoting was frantically sucking the taste from both of her mouths at the same time.

Wen Jia was afraid she wouldn't be able to film the next day, so her brother and husband begged her for mercy again and again, but she still couldn't escape Chu Chu's traces.

Fortunately, the costumes she'd been wearing lately had all been conservative, high-necked. She thought to herself, lost in a daze.

She lost her sense of time after being pressured.

She was tainted by his hormones and took his shape.

Burning with desire, Hsu Shao-ting said playfully, "Now you really have to film with other men while carrying my scent, baby."

They only stopped when they were both completely satisfied and satiated by each other.

When she woke up the next day, she saw that her waist was covered with red finger marks, while Xu Shaoting's broad shoulders and back were covered with countless fine and deep bright red scratches.

It was only then that she truly realized what he meant when he chuckled and whispered in her ear that she was like a wild cat that liked to scratch people.

That night, the five words he spoke most often were,

You're so amazing, baby!

Xu Shaoting savored the memory, but dared not think any further.

Since that time, it's been a while since we last met, but we still talk on the phone every day, even more frequently than before.

However, longing is like thirst; no matter how much you look at water, it won't quench your thirst.

He remembered how she would say she missed him every night with teary eyes, and his heart would soften.

It's time to put the next set visit on the agenda.

Xu Shaoting replied to Xu Yitang:

"Time will pass."

Xu Yitang smiled with delight. She knew that her older brother had never been interested in women before, but now he was showing off his peacock feathers, and to a popular female celebrity no less. Naturally, she was happy to see her brother and sister-in-law become a couple.

She wants to stand out among all the fake couple fans and become the first person to ship a real couple on the spot.

Xu Yitang breathed a sigh of relief.

Filming resumed on set. She put down her phone and was just about to watch when someone tapped her on the shoulder.

She turned her head and saw that Shen Zhiyun had somehow walked up behind her.

Xu Yitang and Shen Zhiyun weren't exactly close. During the time when the Xu and Shen families were engaged, she was studying abroad. She only met Shen Zhiyun once on New Year's Day.

"Sister Zhiyun," she greeted politely.

"I didn't expect to run into you here." Shen Zhiyun smiled faintly. "You've become much prettier. Your face used to be a bit chubby."

Xu Yitang didn't know how to respond.

Seeing her silence, Shen Zhiyun pulled her to sit down on a bench. "Why did you suddenly come to the film set to learn? Are you planning to develop your career in film?"

“I used to go to film sets often, but recently I’ve become interested in movies, so I came to the film set to experience it first,” she answered matter-of-factly.

"It's great. You can ask me anything you don't understand or want to know."

The two weren't very familiar with each other, nor were they really sisters-in-law or sisters-in-law. They had barely exchanged a few words. Xu Yitang was getting restless and wanted to escape, but her upbringing wouldn't allow it, so she had no choice but to patiently chat with Shen Zhiyun for a while.

After going around in circles and asking all sorts of trivial questions, Shen Zhiyun finally glanced in Wen Jia's direction and asked, "How is your brother doing lately?"

Xu Yitang knew she was asking about relationships, but he didn't know which direction to take in his answer. He couldn't mention Wen Jia in front of Shen Zhiyun, as Xu Shaoting had instructed him to.

Now that he is not by her side and cannot protect her at all times, he is worried that Shen Zhiyun might harm her, not physically or mentally, but verbally.

He had already given him a good talking-to when he overheard some trivial gossip from company employees in the restroom. But if he actually heard Shen Zhiyun embellishing what she said, that would be a different story.

Xu Yitang's answer was vague: "He's fine, still busy with his own things, and occasionally goes abroad."

Where are your uncle and aunt?

"It's all good."

"Hmm, have they mentioned me?"

"...Daddy occasionally."

Shen Zhiyun seemed to have been waiting for this answer, and finally a smile appeared on her face.

"What did you mention about me?"

"Of course...it's about how good you are."

Xu Yitang left room for maneuver in her words. Xu Bozheng not only praised her, but also expressed regret for not holding onto this daughter-in-law, and he said this not only to Xu Shaoting, but also to the whole family.

Sometimes, when there's no one around to talk to, even the personal butler gets a lecture from him, and his ears are practically calloused from all the nagging.

"And what about your brother?"

"What about my brother?" she feigned ignorance.

Has your brother ever... brought me up on his own initiative?

"I don't mention it much." She paused. "Oh no, there are some, though."

The mist in Shen Zhiyun's eyes clearly dissipated, as if she was anticipating her reply.

“My brother often tells Daddy that he will handle things with Shen Zhiyun himself. Does that count as bringing it up?”

Xu Yitang had watched too many other people act. He said hurtful things, but his eyes were innocent, as if he hadn't meant it. "I often tell Daddy that you are great, that he is not good enough for you, and that you deserve someone better."

Shen Zhiyun thought her tense expression could finally relax, but the more she listened, the more she frowned.

She didn't care about being worthy or unworthy, nor did she want Xu Shaoting to give her a "friend zone" card. All she wanted was his love, and she would do anything to get it.

A fleeting hint of displeasure crossed her face, but Xu Yitang still caught it.

"Sister Zhiyun, do you still have feelings for my brother?"

Shen Zhiyun habitually smoothed her short hair, her gaze wandering, and remained silent, which was tantamount to acquiescence.

She, a young lady of high birth, never held back when it came to speaking. "My older brother has a girlfriend now."

After these words, there was a moment of silence between the two. Shen Zhiyun, holding warm water in her hands, suddenly felt a chill run through her body. After a long while, she spoke again.

"Is it Wen Jia?" She stared at her with her narrow eyes.

Xu Yitang was still too young compared to her, lacking in cunning, and hadn't expected her to say it so directly. He just laughed awkwardly twice.

"Yes, they have a very good relationship."

Shen Zhiyun changed the subject, asking, "How long have they been together?"

"It may have been some time."

"Do you know how they met?"

Shen Zhiyun pressed for details, appearing eager and curious, but she wasn't really concerned about the answer. Instead, she wanted to find evidence that the relationship was unreliable from every little detail.

"You should ask my brother about these things."

"I have no right to ask." Shen Zhiyun's tone and expression suddenly became aggrieved, even a little pitiful, whether unintentionally or intentionally.

“Sister Zhiyun, it’s enough to think things through in your own mind if you don’t have the status to ask questions,” Xu Yitang smiled. “Even I, a junior, understand this principle.”

“You’re right,” Shen Zhiyun nodded slightly, the topic inevitably turning to Wen Jia, “Has your brother ever mentioned marriage? Or rather, will he marry Wen Jia?”

“I don’t know. But I can tell that my brother definitely wants to marry her.”

In an instant, Shen Zhiyun's eyes lost all light. She didn't know what to say for a moment.

The atmosphere became slightly tense.

Xu Yitang wanted to stand up and leave, but before he could even move, Shen Zhiyun's words stopped him:

"So... what do your family members think of her?"

"Her eldest sister, second brother, and mother all have a good impression of her."

In fact, she had a hundred more nice things to say to Wen Jia, but she knew that these words would be nothing short of spears aimed at Shen Zhiyun. She couldn't hurt her, or even provoke her. A strong woman like Shen Zhiyun was the best at fighting back.

But who would she retaliate against? Xu Yitang knew the answer perfectly well.

"Why not mention your uncle? Yi Tang, what does your uncle think of her?"

The more you say, the more mistakes you make, so Xu Yitang didn't answer.

Seeing that her prediction was correct, Shen Zhiyun chuckled softly, "Even if your older brother really wanted to, your uncle probably wouldn't agree, right?"

Rather than asking a question, she seemed to be talking to herself.

Just as he finished speaking, the filming crew cut the scene. Xu Yitang seized the opportunity and quickly stood up. "Sister Zhiyun, I'm going to Director Yu's place now. We can talk again when we have a chance."

He hadn't gone more than a few steps when Shen Zhiyun called out to him again, "Yi Tang."

"Do you think your father would agree to a female celebrity marrying into the Xu family? And as far as I know, Wen Jia seems to have had some rumors with other men before... I'm afraid your uncle won't accept it, right?"

Xu Yitang wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, but she felt that there was a hint of mockery and sarcasm in her tone.

But she didn't respond, didn't ask what the rumor was, or who it involved; she simply pulled out her phone and called for help.

"Brother, please come quickly!!! Shen Zhiyun has a lot of prejudice against my sister-in-law."

Author's note: Mr. Xu is going to see his wife soon...!

(There won't be many scenes of Feng Yingxue and Chen Xu filming together; if there are, they'll mostly be scenes that are useful later on.)
