Chapter 653: All Laws Return to One: Ninety-Five Changes
After the studio opened, there were four rooms, one of which served as Chunlai's bedroom, and another as my rest room.
The remaining two rooms are: one is used as a studio to receive guests, and the other is used as a private conversation room for guests to chat alone.
Chunlai and I sat in the workshop, feeling a bit like the atmosphere of You Ran Ju back then. If someone came to ask us questions, we would just ask them. If no one came, we would just chat. Master and apprentice talked about history, China and the world, astronomy, geography, and folk customs.
I began to teach Chunlai about the Tao.
Chunlai studied very hard, often asking questions, and I patiently answered them. He made rapid progress, and before I knew it, more than a month had passed.
One morning in May, Chun Lai asked a question:
"Teacher, you said that every seven brings about changes, and you also said that every nine brings about changes. How do we distinguish the changes caused by these sevens and nines?"
I said, "Let's do an experiment."
After that, I wrote down a string of numbers on the paper:
1÷7=0.14258714258……
2÷7=0.28571428571……
3÷7=0.42857142857……
4÷7=0.57142857142……
5÷7=0.71428571428……
6÷7=0.85714285714……
7÷7=1
After I finished writing, I asked, "What do you see?"
Chun said, "It's always the numbers 147, 258 that keep repeating."
I said, "That's right. The 0 is because the number before it is less than 7, forming a zero-something. So, this 0 doesn't need to be considered, but the following two groups of numbers are alternating.
It never shows numbers like 3, 6, or 9. Therefore, seven is a small change. It repeats infinitely within a certain range. Now I will write another set of numbers.
I wrote on the paper:
1÷9=0.111111111……
2÷9=0.222222222……
3÷9=0.333333333……
4÷9=0.444444444……
5÷9=0.555555555……
6÷9=0.666666666……
7÷9=0.777777777……
8÷9=0.888888888……
9÷9=1
After I finished writing it, I asked, “Is this easy to read?”
Chun said, "This has only one number cycle."
I nodded and said, "Nine is a big change. The so-called big change is to form a straight line."
Chun said, "I understand now. Seven represents small changes. Small changes are like waves. Big changes are like a straight line, which is a directional change."
I laughed and said, "The boy is teachable. For example, a man is 27 years old, and in the future he will be 28 or 29.
He can't jump to 30 all at once.
However, a person is 29 years old, and later he is 30 years old.
The jump from 29 to 30 is a phase change. You can't say he's in his 20s. 30 is a whole different age group.
Therefore, every seven is a small change, and every nine is a big change.
"Nine" means jumping from one age stage to another. Therefore, people avoid using the number nine when referring to age changes. For example, if a person turns 59 this year, people usually say he has turned 60. Turning 60 is called "full 60."
Chun said, "So this is how folk customs came about."
I said, "Chunlai, do you believe that I can guess what you are thinking?"
Chun said, "No way?"
I said, “My teacher, Mr. Dong, once said that if something can be calculated with numbers, then you have understood the Tao.
Since breaking up with him, I've been researching this whenever I have time. Of course, my current skills haven't reached that level yet.
But I have some research results to share with you.”
Chunlai widened his eyes.
I said, "Before I show you, let me teach you a few basic concepts."
Chunlai stood up, took a notebook, paper, and pen, came over and sat down, waiting for me to teach him the true teachings.
I started talking and he started taking notes.
I said, "In traditional Chinese culture, numbers don't matter how many there are, only whether they are odd or even. For example: 9+6=15.
We don't need to worry about whether the number is 15, we only need to consider whether the units digit is odd or even. So, when we calculate later, we will not carry.
For example: 357+9=366, this is arithmetic, it is a calculation result.
My method is: 357+9, which is calculated like this: 3+9=12, 5+9=14, 7+9=16. I only want the units digits, and the three units digits are: 2, 4, and 6. Is that right?
Chunlai nodded.
"Okay, do the math: 479 + 9 =?"
Chunlai wrote: 479+9=368.
I said, "Yes, from now on, when we study numbers, we will express them this way."
Chun said, "Teacher, I understand. It means adding each number to 9 and taking the unit digit."
"Yes, my first concept is: when we study numbers, we only focus on the ones place."
Chun said, "I remember it."
"Next, let me teach you a second concept. In Chinese culture, there is a book called the Hetu Luoshu. One of its key principles is: 05 is centered.
1234——05---6789
From this theory, we can see that 5 is used to adjust numbers.
For example: 1+5=6, 2+5=7, 3+5=8, 4+5=9
The decimals 1234, adjusted by the number 5, become the larger number 6789. Do you understand?
Chun said, "I understand."
I said, "If you understand these two concepts well, you will witness a miracle tomorrow."
The principle I want to demonstrate to Chunlai is the Nine-Five Transformations. I'll explain it in detail tomorrow. Everyone, read this first and understand it. Then tomorrow you'll be well versed.
