Chapter 33 The Little Cat Prince Consort
In an instant, all the blood in his body rushed to his head. Lin Lanting couldn't control himself, and his face turned from black to red, which was quite a sight to Huiyi.
"Hahaha, General Cat!"
"This is absolutely hilarious! How can it be so funny!"
"Heavenly Bodhisattva, do you know how long I've been holding this in? I've finally said it, it feels so good!"
Ignoring Lin Er's reaction, Huiyi laughed so hard she almost fell over, and Jinque and Yinque nearly lost their grip on their princess's arm.
After bandaging the last finger, the two breathed a sigh of relief, wiped non-existent sweat from their foreheads, and left.
Even a fool could see that the princess and her husband were about to cause trouble again.
"Stop talking."
After his face turned pale for a while, Lin Lanting gritted his teeth and said.
He disliked the nickname "Li Nu" ever since he was old enough to understand, and he rejected it even more after learning martial arts and joining the army.
It's fine for a delicate young lady to have such a nickname, but for a strong and upright young man to have such a name is simply laughable.
In particular, he also embarked on the path of fighting on the battlefield.
How could a general who had distinguished himself on the battlefield have such a delicate and frail childhood name? It would be shameful to say it out loud.
Over the years, he had almost forgotten that he had such a nickname, and his mother had accidentally told the unruly princess about it.
This is utterly devastating.
"I'll say it, I'll say it!"
"Kitten! Kitten! Kitten!"
With her status as a princess and her husband, Huiyi wasn't afraid of what Lin Er could do to her; at most, he could only scare her.
It would be good if she didn't fall for it.
They laughed and mocked each other. Seeing Lin Er walking angrily toward her, Huiyi got up and ran away. The two chased each other around the house, darting back and forth like cats and mice.
When the young couple were bickering, Yu Niang couldn't intervene. She could only lead a few maids to chase after them, acting as a human wall for Huiyi. From time to time, her own princess would use them to block the prince consort.
Unfortunately, no matter how agile Huiyi was, she was no match for Lin Lanting, who was as nimble as a monkey. Before she knew it, Lin Er grabbed her wrist.
Just when Huiyi thought that the fierce Lin Er was about to give her an over-the-shoulder throw, she was lifted into the air, and when she regained her senses, she found herself being carried by Lin Er.
He was heading to bed.
"What are you doing? What are you doing!"
With that posture, and leaning towards the bedside, it was hard for Huiyi not to have wild thoughts.
Lin Lanting shouted at the maids, "Get out! The princess and I are going to rest!"
Everyone looked at each other, and finally all turned their attention to Yu Niang, who was in charge.
Yu Niang was also conflicted, because rules are not something you can always talk about and live by, especially when it comes to husband and wife.
Even emperors and empresses don't follow any rules, so how can princesses and their husbands live their lives according to the rules every day?
A good relationship between master and servant can even lead to joking and playful banter.
But seeing the prince consort's fierce appearance, and how he even lifted the princess up like a sandbag, Yu Niang couldn't help but guess that it was something between husband and wife.
Seeing the princess so frightened, Yu Niang still mustered her courage and stood in front of the prince consort.
"If the princess is unwilling, the prince consort should not frighten her."
Without giving her a single glance, Lin Lanting carried Huiyi, who was still struggling on his shoulder, past her and came to the bedside.
This terrified Huiyi, who was afraid of ruining her newly painted nails. She nudged his back with her elbow and yelled, "What do you want, you scoundrel? Let me go right now, or you'll regret it!"
Because her head was facing down, Huiyi's face turned red after she shouted that sentence.
No sooner had she finished shouting than she was thrown onto the soft bedding, followed by another dizzying spin.
As a child, Huiyi slept on hard, uncomfortable beds for a long time. After her family became wealthy, she developed a preference for soft beds, finding them more comfortable the softer they were.
So being thrown down doesn't hurt, but it's bound to be frightening.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that Lin Lanting seemed to be coming over again. Huiyi cried out and burrowed into the quilt, wrapping herself up tightly so that not a single finger could be inserted.
Lin Lanting could only see a person wrapped up in a ball inside the blanket, making incoherent noises.
But Lin Lanting thought it must be something that was cursing him.
Even with the wrapping so tight, Lin Lanting couldn't tell the beginning or the end. He casually tapped on it, which elicited another shout from the person inside.
"Weren't you so powerful just now?"
Lin Lanting's mischievous impulse surged, and he reached out and tapped a few more times, saying maliciously.
The next moment, Ren suddenly popped her head out from under the covers, her face flushed red, clearly angry, and yelled, "Don't touch that! That's my butt!"
Huiyi was so angry that she blurted out everything.
As soon as these somewhat crude and blunt words were uttered, Lin Lanting's smile froze, and his embarrassment and awkwardness were clearly visible on his face.
He hurriedly put his hands behind his back, took three steps back, and said with a strange expression, "Why didn't you say so earlier?"
He muttered that one sentence to himself, then didn't look at Huiyi a second time before running away in a flash.
In the dead of night, he disappeared somewhere, and only sneaked in after Huiyi had finished washing up and was almost asleep in her brocade tent.
The creaking sound of the door opening and closing drifted over, and Huiyi knew that it was that scoundrel Lin Er who had returned.
It's too late to get angry and cause trouble, so Huiyi will just pretend she doesn't know.
Seeing that there was no movement from the brocade tent, Lin Lanting breathed a sigh of relief and tiptoed to the bathing room to rinse her body with the remaining cold water.
Water droplets slid down the scattered scars on the swollen muscles, rising and falling with each breath.
After rinsing off the daytime stains, Lin Lanting dried herself with a towel.
Just as she was about to move down to her lower back, Lin Lanting remembered what had just happened, paused, and hastily wiped twice more.
It seems quite soft.
It's much softer than mine.
While Lin Lanting was absentmindedly dressing, she was unaware that a figure in a white dress with flowing hair had appeared at the entrance of the bathhouse.
Her nightgown was snow-white, and her hair was disheveled and hanging forward; she was clearly dressed as a ghost.
Huiyi couldn't resist and wanted to take the opportunity to scare that scoundrel Lin Er.
Based on her past experience of scaring her mother, elder sister, and Yu Niang, she knew that Lin Er would be so frightened that he would turn pale and might even fall flat on his face.
The thought of this filled Huiyi with energy.
After getting ready, Huiyi arrived at the entrance of the bathhouse, waiting for the fish to take the bait.
Finally, Huiyi heard footsteps coming from inside; it was Lin Er coming out.
Finally, the felt curtain was lifted, and Huiyi seized the opportunity to let out a loud "Wow!"
But instead of being terrified, she was slammed against the wall with a chokehold, her back aching from the impact.
Although the incident happened suddenly, Lin Lanting's agility, honed through years of martial arts training, allowed him to respond immediately.
But because it all happened so suddenly, he didn't have time to think about who the woman who could appear at the bathroom door at this moment could be.
He immediately seized the man and pinned him against the wall, as if subduing an enemy.
"Well……"
It wasn't until the person beneath his palm let out a soft groan tinged with pain that Lin Lanting realized what was happening. He immediately released his grip and exclaimed in surprise, "How could it be you?"
"you……"
Before she could ask anything else, Huiyi slid down the wall, coughing and clutching her neck.
They look so pitiful.
Lin Lanting was both angry and helpless. He immediately helped her up, restraining his strength, and gently patted Huiyi's back.
Once he recovered, he immediately punched himself in the chest.
At this moment, Lin Lanting dared not laugh at her for her weak punches, as if she hadn't eaten.
If someone dares to pull this stunt at a time like this, they'll be dragged out and beheaded!
"Lin Lanting, you brute, how dare you murder this princess!"
With such a huge accusation leveled against him, Lin Lanting was at a loss. Although he felt extremely guilty and felt sorry for her, he still had a stubborn streak and forced himself to say, "Who told you to play tricks here? I was just acting in self-defense."
Feeling guilty, Lin Lanting didn't dare to look her in the eye. Seeing her cough a few more times in anger, her face turning bright red, Lin Lanting stopped arguing and patted her hard, softening her tone considerably.
"It is my fault. I was too rude and reckless. Please forgive me, Princess."
"Or should the princess also repay me?"
Lin Lanting spread his hands, adopting an attitude of accepting whatever beating or scolding he might receive.
His attempt to steal a chicken backfired, and he was beaten up. Huiyi was still furious and wouldn't let him off easily.
Besides, Lin Er's body is as hard as stone, and it would be painful to hit him, so she doesn't want to!
"No, you'd better kneel down and kowtow twice to apologize!"
This is what Huiyi finds most satisfying, and it's perfect for punishing that scoundrel Lin Er right now.
Lin Lanting's face stiffened, and she asked, unwilling to give up, "Isn't there a more dignified punishment?"
Just as Huiyi was about to reject it, a sudden inspiration struck her, and she came up with an even more fun idea.
She smiled and said, "There is one, but I don't know if you'd be willing."
The spoiled princess's smile was so eerie that Lin Lanting was unsure of what to do, but he still asked, "Please speak, Princess."
"We're about to see a good show!" Huiyi's back pain and cough had subsided, and she smiled and said, "You're saying the kitten knows it was wrong."
Just saying that made Huiyi unable to suppress the smile on her lips; she was secretly delighted.
Lin Lanting's situation was less pleasant; his face was covered in various colors, which was quite comical.
"Choose one of the two, cough cough cough~"
Seeing that Lin Er didn't want to choose, but this wasn't the time for him to be picky, Huiyi coughed a few times in a fake manner, full of threat.
Lin Lanting really didn't want either of them, but out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of red on Huiyi's neck.
Those were all his doing.
His heart suddenly softened, and the word "okay" escaped his throat.
Which one to choose?
He said "good," but Huiyi wasn't sure which word he wanted to hear, so she asked with great interest.
Lin Lanting closed his eyes briefly and answered resignedly, "The second one."
Very good, Huiyi is intrigued and even more eager to hear this.
So she urged expectantly, "Then tell me quickly!"
These words were too hot to pronounce, so Lin Lanting just moved his lips and blurted out a sentence.
But I couldn't hear anything.
This displeased Huiyi, who frowned and said angrily, "What nonsense are you spouting? Is your tongue covered in mud?"
"Say it again, but slowly!"
Left with no other option, Lin Lanting had to slow down.
But here's the problem: the voice was so weak it was like a mosquito's buzz, and Huiyi didn't enjoy listening to it.
"Are you even a man? What are you dawdling about?!"
No young man could bear to hear such words, especially Lin Lanting. He glared and almost shouted it out.
"The kitten knows it was wrong!"
His voice was strong and resonant, like a bell.
That shout not only stunned Huiyi, but also startled Yu Niang and the others, who gathered at the door to inquire.
"Princess, what has happened? Do you need us to come in and serve you?"
The prince consort was eccentric and frivolous, and could not be judged by conventional standards; they were worried that he might offend the princess.
Huiyi was laughing so hard she couldn't stand up straight, and she couldn't respond to Yu Niang and the others for a moment.
Needless to say, Lin Lanting's face was as black as the bottom of a pot, and a thin layer of red had quietly covered her neck and the tips of her ears.
It wasn't until Yu Niang and the others asked again from outside that Huiyi suppressed her laughter and said loudly, "It's nothing, just playing around with the Prince Consort. You all go back and rest."
After hearing this, the noise outside gradually subsided.
Huiyi continued to laugh, tears welling up in her eyes, almost sliding off the wall.
Lin Lanting watched coldly, his lips twitching. Finally, he couldn't hold back any longer and gritted his teeth, saying, "Have you laughed enough?"
Huiyi wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, all grudges gone.
Her bad mood was dispelled, and a smile appeared on Huiyi's face.
