Chapter 47 (Venturing Out of Anger)
Huiyi was staring at the Xie family's side when she suddenly heard a strange sentence in her ear. She couldn't figure out who the "he" that Lin Er was talking about was, and she looked confused for a long time.
Why aren't you saying anything?
"Did I really hit the nail on the head? You're still thinking about him?"
Lin Lanting was merely hot-tempered with others, such as the brothel and that scholar, but Xie Sanlang was different.
He was right there and witnessed everything that happened.
He watched as Huiyi took a liking to Xie San, that pretty boy, and even gave him a token, intending to make him her son-in-law.
If Xie San hadn't refused me, I probably wouldn't be sitting here now.
The thought of this possibility made Lin Lanting feel a pang of jealousy all over her body; how could she not feel resentful?
Huiyi became more and more confused as she listened, and glared at him sideways, saying, "What nonsense are you talking about? I can't understand a word of it."
"Why not eat a few more bites and talk less!"
His parents are still alive, and he doesn't know what's wrong with him. He's making a fool of himself.
Lin Lanting was even more furious, her eyes wide as she questioned, "Are you still pretending to be stupid? You dare to do it but not admit it?"
The fish slices were as thin as cicada wings, and with orange shreds and wasabi, they looked incredibly tempting. Huiyi was about to take a bite, but Lin Er's repeated words made her hesitate.
She got angry too, slammed down her chopsticks, and Lin Er retorted, "What, is there poison in the food that's made you stupid? What nonsense are you spouting!"
"Who am I thinking about now that you're so jealous?"
Although she always belittled the other person's feelings, Huiyi knew in her heart that Lin Er had been persistently pursuing her for so long.
Lin Er did indeed admire her, but he was also petty and jealous.
Although she didn't know who he was talking about, Huiyi knew he was jealous again.
A strange mix of anger and secret pleasure lingered within Huiyi's emotions; she felt both angry and amused.
Lin Lanting felt that being able to pretend so flawlessly was quite an achievement, and while he was furious, he was also extremely impressed.
"Thank you, San."
Finally, Huiyi understood and her expression became clear.
"It's him. He's not worth your jealousy because I don't miss him."
With a calm expression, Huiyi picked up her chopsticks again and finally ate a bite of sashimi, completely satisfied.
Is it really true?
"Then why are you looking at him?"
Lin Lanting remained skeptical and continued to ask questions, determined to get to the bottom of it.
"Xie San?"
Where is he?
“When did I see him? I only saw Xie Yun.”
Huiyi was surprised and completely confused.
The atmosphere fell silent for a few moments, and Lin Lanting also quieted down.
Suddenly, he burst into laughter, and his expression changed completely.
"It's alright then. I was too talkative. I should be punished. I will punish myself with three cups as an apology to the princess."
In a flash of realization, Lin Lanting, now clear-headed, stopped caring about anything and calmly drank three cups of wine.
He was overthinking it; he launched a void attack to search for enemies.
Huiyi looked at him with a complicated expression, hesitated for a few moments, still feeling somewhat uncomfortable, and retorted, "You should punish yourself with three buckets of rice; you're so petty."
Perhaps reminded by Lin Er, Huiyi's gaze shifted and fell on Xie Xi, who was standing next to Xie Yun.
Oh, so Xie Xi is here. No wonder Lin Er thought that way.
In that instant, Xie Xi looked over precisely, smiled gently, and was very friendly.
Huiyi was immediately stunned, and then her heart skipped a beat. Before she could think about why Xie San was doing this, she glanced at Lin Er beside her.
Sure enough, the other party was staring at her intently, as if he would make a scene if Huiyi responded to Xie San.
Huiyi shuddered, immediately lowered her head, and took a bite of the nearest fried spring roll, pretending she hadn't seen anything.
After the afternoon nap, the autumn hunt begins.
When the sage-like grandfather shot the first arrow into the mountains and forests, the autumn hunt of this year officially began.
Dressed in a fiery red Hu-style robe, Huiyi rode her horse and said to her father with a smile, "Father, do you believe that I will hunt even more game this year!"
Emperor Yongxi doted on this daughter the most, and immediately laughed loudly, "I believe it, Your Majesty believes it, then Your Majesty will wait and see!"
Li Ling rode over, glanced at his brother-in-law who was skilled in archery and horsemanship, and teased, "Isn't that obvious? With your brother-in-law helping you, you could probably even compete for first place!"
Huiyi didn't like hearing this and made a move to grab a whip to lash him, but was stopped by Lin Er, who was acting like a good husband.
“Princess, please do not be angry. The Third Prince is not wrong. If the princess wishes, I will naturally fight for her.”
This was quite a boastful statement, especially when the emperor himself went hunting; it made him seem even more arrogant.
But the one being pleased was his own youngest daughter. Emperor Yongxi not only felt no offense at all, but also thought that he had chosen a very good husband, knowing that pleasing his daughter was the best thing to do.
The spirit of youth is most precious.
It is also the most delightful.
Emperor Yongxi had always admired the spirited and arrogant nature of the second son of the Lin family, and after he became his son-in-law, he found him even more pleasing to the eye.
Only Huiyi glared at him unhappily and retorted anxiously, "Who wants you in the way? Go hunt your own game. I didn't ask you to help me, so don't follow me."
Huiyi was serious, but Lin Er ignored her and kept riding alongside her, which made Huiyi feel very threatened.
He's probably trying to steal his prey!
But later Huiyi realized that she had been overthinking things.
Lin Er would only act when Huiyi failed and the prey was about to escape, and then shoot the prey dead with an arrow.
Not only that, Lin Lanting also brought his falcon named Zhufeng and caught a beautiful tit for her.
With red feathers and a silver tail, a round belly, and a very pleasant chirping sound.
Huiyi planned to take her back to keep Cuiyi's mother company.
Seeing that he was capable and sensible, Huiyi tacitly allowed Lin Er to follow along.
The mountain breeze was chilly in the forest, and the sunlight was dappled. Every time Huiyi shot a prey, Lin Er would praise and cheer her from the side, appearing genuinely pleased, which made Huiyi feel embarrassed.
However, it must be said that Huiyi's mood became increasingly cheerful, so she gave him a lot of friendly looks and occasionally chatted and laughed with him.
That was enough for Lin Lanting.
Like boiling a frog in lukewarm water, he has to proceed slowly and methodically.
As dusk fell, Huiyi returned laden with spoils, riding back to camp with Lin Er under the setting sun.
She was very happy today; it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say she was thoroughly enjoying herself.
For the first time, Huiyi thought that finding a consort like Lin Er wouldn't be bad.
Although he was a martial artist, unlike the talented and romantic scholars many women admired, Huiyi truly disliked spending her days with a bookish and rigidly conventional scholar.
The advantage of being with Lin Er is that you can be carefree and unrestrained, without having to change yourself in the slightest.
She doesn't have to experience any of the hardships her older sister went through.
When the cook took away the game that Huiyi had hunted, Lin Lanting said, "Prepare the meat and bring it over. I'll grill it."
The cooks naturally obeyed, and none of them disobeyed.
Huiyi listened from the side, a subtle smile playing on her lips.
She's quite sensible; she's really craving this!
As night fell, the roasted meat feast was bustling and lively. Huiyi watched as Lin Er fiddled with the various slices of meat sizzling and dripping oil on the grill, and her stomach finally couldn't take it anymore and started to rumble.
The surroundings were bustling, and Huiyi assumed no one had heard her, so she pretended to be nonchalant and rested her chin on her hand, waiting for the meat.
Unexpectedly, Lin Er suddenly looked up and said sarcastically, "It is my fault that the princess is so hungry. She will be fine soon."
Fortunately, the firelight concealed the blush on Huiyi's face. She retorted angrily, "You misheard me, my stomach didn't growl!"
Lin Lanting didn't argue with this young lady, but just smiled and said, "Yes, yes, I have an ear problem and misheard. The princess is not hungry at all."
Huiyi managed to save face a little and urged angrily, "Hurry up, I'm going to be hungry soon."
"knew."
Lin Lanting laughed heartily as she fussed over him.
Huiyi ate to her heart's content tonight, because every kind of meat was roasted by Lin Er until it was fragrant, tender and delicious.
Halfway through the meal, Lin Er thoughtfully handed over a glass of fresh, sweet, and refreshing pear juice. One sip and it was sweet and refreshing.
The downside is that after eating too much venison, I had a burning sensation in my heart and felt hot all over at night.
The consequence was that when she was sleeping peacefully at night, Lin Er shamelessly climbed into her bed and kissed her until she was dizzy and disoriented.
Huiyi should have refused, but the night was so hot that she didn't feel much resistance. She struggled a few times before letting him kiss her.
Putting aside the shame, tonight's passionate kiss with Lin Er was quite enjoyable.
It relieved most of the restlessness in her heart.
But he only allowed Lin Er to kiss him a few times; he wouldn't allow any more.
So just as Lin Er was about to bury himself down along the collarbone, Huiyi shoved him away and yelled, "Get out of the way!"
Then he turned his head away and ignored her, leaving Lin Lanting, who was in the middle of a good time, with a resentful look on his face and suppressing his anger.
"You stingy person!"
In the darkness, Lin Lanting muttered something resentfully. Not only that, he deliberately pressed himself against her, letting Huiyi personally experience his displeasure.
With her lower back pressed down hard, Huiyi knew without a doubt what kind of dirty thing it was.
He tried to dodge by twisting and turning, but not only did he fail, he also angered Lin Er behind him.
Suddenly, her waist was grabbed, and she heard a hot breath on her ear: "If you move again, I won't be polite!"
Knowing how impolite he would be, Huiyi froze, not daring to twist or turn any further.
The breathing behind him gradually changed from heavy to even. Huiyi, who had been hunting all afternoon, was also tired and fell asleep under the watchful eyes of the tigers and wolves behind him.
Lin Lanting reluctantly moved her hand over the collapsed, slender waist for a while, even kneading it a couple of times for her own pleasure.
Lin Lanting looked forward to a future where she could mold things as she pleased.
All was silent, except for the soldiers on duty patrolling with torches, and the tents were plunged into darkness.
As midnight approached, a dark figure darted between the tents, precisely targeting the tent of Princess Li Xiuyun of Liang County. Unbeknownst to anyone, the figure sneaked in, drugged her, and took her away, disappearing into the pitch-black forest.
Soon, the shadowy figure darted away again, returning to his warm and fragrant wife, and contentedly pulled her into his arms.
Perhaps because she had just gone out and caught a chill, her arms were a little cold. When Huiyi snuggled in, she wanted to leave, but the warmth of the body quickly dispelled the chill. The warm embrace was very pleasant in the chilly autumn night, and Huiyi no longer resisted, letting the other person wrap her arms around her.
The autumn night is long, but the signs of spring are quietly emerging.
Huiyi had a good night's sleep, and her already good mood was further enhanced after learning that Li Xiuyun had suffered misfortune the previous night.
It is unknown which brave man had hung Li Xiuyun in a net in the mountains all night, and she was only discovered and rescued this morning.
The chill of an autumn night in the mountains and forests, coupled with the fact that they had been hanging all night, meant that when they were found, they were shivering and inevitably suffered from a high fever.
Huiyi could only say she deserved it. The hardships Li Xiuyun had brought her were far more than these. It was only because she was too foolish back then that she was trampled on again and again.
When Huiyi saw her suffer, she would only clap her hands in delight.
But what she didn't expect was that not long after she found happiness, she too would suffer a terrible misfortune.
