Chapter 4

Chapter 4

In the neighborhood supermarket, Du Jiajia and Gu Yuan stood side by side in front of the glass cabinet. Du Jiajia tilted her head and asked, "How much beer did your mother ask you to buy?"

Gu Yuan: "I definitely need to buy more. If it's just a few bottles, I can come down myself."

Du Jiajia suggested: "Why not just buy a box?"

Gu Yuan nodded in agreement: "Okay, anyway, the unopened beer can be kept for a long time, and I can always use it in cooking in the future."

After Gu Yuan paid the bill, the two of them worked together to lift the heavy beer box.

Du Jiajia struggled to adjust her grip, "Why is it so heavy? My dad bought a whole box of Coke before, I don't remember it being this heavy."

Gu Yuan glanced at her and couldn't help laughing: "Coke is in a plastic bottle, and this beer is in a glass bottle. What kind of question are you asking?"

“Glass bottles can be sold for money.”

"Well, the recycling price is still higher than that of plastic bottles." Gu Yuan looked at the beer he was holding and quickened his pace.

When they reached the stairs, Du Jiajia took a look through the gap between the stairs and said, "I've never felt your house is so high."

Gu Yuan waved at Du Jiajia: "Go ahead, go ahead. If you keep dawdling, my mom won't be able to cook later."

Du Jiajia: "No way, I'll make it go up no matter what."

Gu Yuan laughed at her: "You really are very powerful when it comes to food."

"Hurry up, hurry up."

The two of them climbed up the stairs with great difficulty carrying the beer bags. Du Jiajia was so tired that she leaned against the wall and gasped for breath.

Gu Yuan was better off. He took out the key and inserted it into the keyhole, but found that no matter how hard he turned it, it wouldn't turn. It seemed as if someone had locked the door from the inside.

Gu Yuan raised his hand and patted the door: "Mom, open the door."

Du Jiajia propped herself up on her knees and gasped, "Aren't you holding the key? Is the key broken?"

Gu Yuan turned around and looked at her: "My mother seems to have locked the door."

Gu Nian, who was in the room, heard the noise at the door and urged Lin An: "Can you hurry up?"

Lin An's face was stern, and a thousand silver-white threads suddenly burst out from his fingertips. The force penetrated Gu Nian's body like a sharp blade, and then wrapped around him in the next second.

The entire room was suddenly engulfed by a dazzling white light. Even the air trembled, and the entire space was distorted by this force.

Lin An raised his other hand lightly, and a silver light flashed across the air. The surging and distorted energy in the space instantly calmed down.

Gu Nian groaned, a fishy-sweet taste rising in her throat. The silver-white threads were frantically draining strength from her limbs and bones, and then being peeled off and crushed by this force.

Lin An lowered his eyes and looked at Gu Nian who was kneeling on the ground: "Six hours."

"Your consciousness will dissipate during this time, and this body will die. Please spend the rest of your time saying your goodbyes."

Gu Nian stood up: "Thank you for keeping me so long."

"Senior...Teacher."

Lin An paused and continued, "I never thought that we would meet again, and that you and I would be in this situation."

"I never thought about it, but I think this time in the human world is worth it, and I have never regretted it."

"I regret it. Perhaps I shouldn't have fallen asleep. You might not have gone astray."

Gu Nian patted the wrinkles on his hem and said, "I don't think this is the wrong path."

She took a few steps and opened the door.

Outside, Gu Yuan knocked on the door suspiciously: "Mom...Mom?"

Du Jiajia sat down on a beer crate, tilting her head and wondering, "Could it be that Auntie has gone out?"

Gu Yuan shook his head: "Impossible, even if my mother is not here, Sister Mo is at home."

Gu Nian suddenly opened the door: "Have you been waiting for a long time?"

Du Jiajia quickly stood up and said, "No, no, Auntie."

Gu Yuan walked in with a beer in his hand, "Mom, why are you taking so long to open the door? And it's locked?"

Gu Nian: "I didn't pay attention when I closed the door just now, so I locked it casually. Your classmate and I were in the kitchen just now and didn't hear it."

On the sofa, Lin An raised her cold eyes slightly and looked at Gu Nian's figure. She could see that there was trembling under the strong body, but the senior was still pretending to be calm.

All this was just to avoid making Gu Yuan worry. Lin An raised his lips in a sarcastic arc and murmured, "How can I be so worthy of your kindness."

Du Jiajia came over: "Sister An, what did you say?"

Lin An: "Nothing."

Du Jiajia looked at her clenched phone and said, "Sister An, what were you looking at? Your eyes are so cold."

Lin An casually placed his phone on the coffee table and said calmly, "I didn't see anything."

In the kitchen, Gu Yuan hugged Gu Nian, who was stir-frying vegetables, from behind and rubbed his head against her back: "Mom, are you tired today?"

Her arm felt a slight tremor, and Gu Yuan's heart tightened. He quickly asked, "Mom, what's wrong?"

Gu Nian twisted her body slightly: "It's itchy when you hug me, what's wrong."

Gu Yuan looked at her expression, loosened his arms, and pretended to be angry: "If you dislike me, I will never hug you again."

Gu Nian's movements faltered slightly. "Alright, go out and entertain your classmates. I don't need your help here."

Gu Yuan responded and turned to walk out: "Then I'll go out."

As soon as she stepped out of the living room, she ran into Lin An's gaze and couldn't help but ask: "Sister An, what's wrong?"

Du Jiajia followed her gaze and glanced at Lin An, then leaned over to Gu Yuan's ear and whispered, "Sister Mo was watching videos just now. Maybe she saw something that made her unhappy. She looked at me with such cold eyes just now."

Lin An said: "I'm sorry, I haven't recovered from my emotions for a while."

Gu Yuan walked to Lin An and said, "It's okay, Sister An." Then he sat down next to her.

The three of them watched TV quietly. After a while, Gu Nian came out of the kitchen and shouted, "Dinner is ready, come and eat."

At the dinner table, Du Jiajia said: "Auntie, your cooking is really delicious."

Gu Yuan looked at her with a smile: "Every time you come here, you say this."

"Eat more if you like. You're welcome."

Du Jiajia: "Thank you, Auntie"

The food on the table was steaming. Gu Yuan suddenly stopped picking up the food and looked at Lin An, who had barely touched her chopsticks. "Sister An, why aren't you eating?"

Lin An noticed Gu Nian's gaze and felt impatient, but still said, "Auntie, the food is delicious, but I just ate too much fruit and don't have much appetite."

"Don't worry about me, just eat it while it's hot."

Gu Yuan opened her mouth but didn't respond. She was puzzled. Just now in the living room, Lin An didn't even touch the fruit plate on the coffee table. How could he have eaten so much fruit?

Maybe, maybe it happened before she came back? Thinking of this, she stopped asking.
