Chapter 126 Late-night Help (1/2)

The two looked up and saw that Boss Crow was flapping his wings vigorously, holding a chubby, sleepy little bat tightly in his claws, and landing on the roof of the taxi with a panting sound.

Song Qiuyi was stunned and pointed at the roof of the car: "Little, Little Principal Xia... Is this the bodyguard we called for?!"

Xia Zhining opened the car door as if it was a matter of course: "Yes~ Professional team, always available!"

"And look, they can fly all the way to your senior sister's house by themselves. They don't take up seats or share a ride, which saves a lot of money!"

The taxi slowly started to move, and Crow Boss immediately pecked Fat Bat's head with his beak: [Wake up! Weight loss training has begun!]

[Take off, take off~ Note the route, by the way.]

The fat bat groaned as he was pecked, then reluctantly opened his eyes and yawned loudly: [After the traffic light, turn left... zzz...]

Before it could finish its words, its head drooped again and it lay back on the roof of the car, about to fall asleep again.

The crow boss was immediately furious. He grabbed the crow by the scruff of its neck and swung it into the air: "Gah! You lazy bastard! You never sleep all day and work all day! Fly up! Wake up!"

The fat bat was thrown around so hard that his head spun around, his four little paws flapping around: [Woohoo! Boss, stop shaking me! I’m going to vomit!]

[I'm flying seriously!]

Then, a strange sight appeared in the night sky of the city:

A taxi was driving smoothly through the old town. Low above the roof of the taxi, a crow was menacingly holding the scruff of a fat bat in its mouth, pecking at its head frantically as it flew, as if spurring a weakling.

The fat bat was pecked until tears welled up in his eyes, but he still had to open his eyes wide to find his way: [In front... turn right at the next intersection...]

[Wow, boss, stop pecking! I really didn’t fall asleep this time!]

Boss Crow's curse pierced the night sky: [Gah! I don't believe you! Hurry up!]

[If you dawdle any longer, I'll deduct half a mealworm from your midnight snack tonight!]

The taxi driver didn't notice the movement on the roof at all, and just happily followed the navigation.

In the back seat, Xia Zhining and Song Qiuyi exchanged a tacit glance. The former's shoulders trembled from trying to suppress laughter, while the latter, listening to the birds chirping overhead, sighed, "This bodyguard team... is really quite cost-effective."

The taxi slowly stopped in front of a somewhat messy old residential building in the old city.

These buildings are closely packed together, with mottled exterior walls, narrow floors and dim lighting, and clotheslines crisscrossing between the windowsills.

Xia Zhining paused slightly as she got out of the car, her eyes a bit dazed. This scene was all too familiar to her.

When she was kicked out of the Xia family, she dragged Li into a similar old building to survive.

The neighborhood may be closer here, but the dilapidated facilities and complex floating population also mean countless hidden dangers.

Song Qiuyi explained softly, "Not long after my senior sister resigned, something unexpected happened at home, and our finances became tight all of a sudden... We can only rent here temporarily now."

"And the landlady took good care of her and treated her like her own granddaughter."

Xia Zhining nodded and said softly, "I'm Mingqi."

They walked up the narrow stairs to the third floor and knocked on an old iron door covered with flyers.

The person who opened the door was a thin girl with a pale face and dark circles under her eyes.

When she saw Song Qiuyi, her dull eyes finally showed a faint light.

But when his eyes fell on Xia Zhining's face, that little bit of light froze instantly.

Mingshuang stood there in a daze, her fingers clenched around the door frame.

Xia Zhining tilted her head slightly, stared at her, and asked softly, "Have we... met somewhere before?"

Ming Shuang seemed to be pricked by something, and shook her head violently, her voice a little dry: "No, no... You must have recognized the wrong person."

Xia Zhining didn't ask any more questions, but just smiled faintly.

But she could tell that Mingshuang was hiding something.

They must have seen it.

Xia’s Pet Hospital has many branches.
