Chapter 11 Going to Work in July

Director Zhang pulled Song Qing to sit on the kang (a heated brick bed) in the main room. Lu Yang went over and picked up An'an, who was rummaging through the old straw pile.

She was unwilling and twisted her small body away from Lu Yang's embrace. Lu Yang could only squat down and tell her not to rummage inside.

When Director Zhang arrived, she knew today would be a tough battle. She had heard her husband talk about Lu Yang a few times; he was a formidable man, but he wasn't the type to speak very politely.

She had already decided that she would first work on Song Qing's position; when doing things, you have to start with the easy ones and then move on to the difficult ones.

Since the couple wasn't together, she decided to take advantage of Xiao Song first. But when she looked away and began to examine Song Qing, she sighed inwardly.

Song Qing is undeniably beautiful, especially her clear and bright eyes, but she has a cool and aloof demeanor. Even wearing a bright red scarf cannot suppress her temperament.

"Director Zhang, of course we accept and carry out the organization's arrangements. If we had been allocated these houses from the beginning, we wouldn't have said anything."

But we're clearly not on this side of the deal. We can't just do what anyone tries to cheat. If this loophole is opened, what will others think?

As for the next room allocation you mentioned, when is that?

What if someone objects? What if everyone wants to move? Can the military region build so many new houses all at once?

Director Zhang smiled bitterly to herself. She had always thought that Song Qing was not someone she could fool.

The two chatted for a while, and then she looked at the things piled up in the room. Just then, Lu Yang came over.

"Alright, let's be frank. If you're willing to switch, the organization will understand your spirit of selflessness and putting the overall situation first, and will also compensate you."

In recent years, to provide employment for military dependents and to encourage more people to contribute to the country and society, especially in our military region, a number of family-run factories have been specifically established.

Director Zhang didn't spell it out directly, but everyone understood his meaning, and Song Qing readily agreed without hesitation.

It's difficult to arrange jobs now. Even if a factory for military spouses is opened, the site is small and can only accommodate a few thousand people. There are tens of thousands of military spouses in the entire military region.

Even with other tasks included, arranging them one by one in a queue would take forever.

However, there are no extra positions in the factory right now. A new production line will be added in July, and Song Qing will be assigned to it then.

"Xiao Song is a high school student and has worked in the government for several years. Don't worry, the organization will definitely not bury talent and will arrange a good job for you. Work hard and contribute to the country and society."

Everyone's watching our factory right now. We haven't announced the addition of a production line yet, so we'll keep it a secret for now. But don't worry, we'll definitely have it arranged for you by the end of July.

Song Qing has both education and work experience. Once she enters the factory, she might become a pillar of the factory. She definitely needs to win her over and build a good relationship with her first.

This matter shouldn't be publicized. Director Zhang instructed Song Qing not to tell anyone. He told everyone that they had a good relationship with the Wang family and that the two families had voluntarily communicated and exchanged houses. Regardless of whether people believed it or not, he insisted that this was the case.

"Alright, I'm leaving. You guys hurry up and pack up. I'll call a few more orderly soldiers over to help tomorrow."

Hurry up and pack your things, try to move in in a few days, otherwise she won't feel at ease. If the couple starts arguing with Zhou Lian, they'll probably tear the whole new district down.

Director Zhang refused their offer to see her off, waved goodbye, and rode off on her bicycle. She still had to hurry to find Zhou Lian.

Song Qing stood at the door watching Director Zhang ride away on his bicycle and breathed a sigh of relief. Who would have thought that the most difficult work problem would be solved so easily?

Director Zhang brought more than just this good news. When the new houses were built in the new district, some cement bricks and other building materials were left over. It wasn't much, but it would definitely be enough for them.

This really helped them a lot; now all they have to worry about is finding manpower.

Lu Yang had already gone to check on the remaining building materials, while Song Qing wandered around the room, pondering what to do with the wood.

"An'an, don't touch anything inside, be careful of snakes."

An'an had been tapping and banging around inside with a small stick, but upon hearing her mother's words, she immediately dropped the stick, ran to her mother's side, and hugged her leg.

Song Qing wasn't trying to scare her; it's common for snakes and other animals to get into houses that haven't been lived in for a long time.

Plus, with the heavy snow outside, there might really be snakes hibernating inside. Even if there aren't, it's so dirty inside, full of old ash.

He carried her to the entrance of the main room and let her sit there to play. Song Qing picked up a long stick and started tapping and banging around in the yard.

The pile of wood in the yard is probably quite old. Although there's a tarpaulin on top, it's useless with so much snow.

She tapped the wood below with a stick and found it was all rotten; it crumbled at the slightest touch. It seemed the wood could only be dried and used as firewood when the weather cleared up.

The wood piled up inside the house is well preserved; if you hire someone to build cabinets, you can probably save some money on materials.

The mention of the pile of wood in the room reminded Song Qing of those large vats. He sighed and began to re-inventory the room's contents.

Those large vats were waist-deep, stacked two on top of each other in the corner, and there were eight of them in total.

Before she set off for Northeast China, her mother had asked around among people who had lived there. She knew that people there had a tradition of pickling sauerkraut, but this vat was far too large and far too big.

She wanted to go to the backyard to take a look, but the passageway was completely blocked, so she could only stand in the corner and crane her neck to look.

The aisle is wide, more than two meters, almost three meters. If we can raise some chickens and ducks in the future, we can put the cages there.

The front yard is also quite large. Once it's cleared out, we can dig up some soil and plant some vegetables. Oh, and there's also a small yard in the back. So this is what it feels like to own land.

Song Qing loved growing flowers. When she was at home, she could only plant a few plants in a few clay pots on the balcony. After graduating from high school, the movement started. Back then, who would dare to grow flowers? It would be considered a sign of being a bourgeois and would be arrested as an example.

She had An'an then, and the mother and son moved to the dormitory, leaving them with even less space and time to grow flowers.

The situation isn't as tense as it was a few years ago, and since they're in a military region, it's understandable that they can grow a few plants in their spare time.

Song Qing stood in the courtyard, hands on her hips, looking up at the sky. Having a courtyard was a very happy thing, and having solved her job problem made her even happier.

When An'an saw her mother looking up at the sky, she ran to the yard and looked up too. Although she couldn't see anything, it didn't stop her from feeling her mother's happiness, and she giggled.

"What are you laughing at?"

She shook her head, not answering Song Qing's question, but simply smiled and threw herself into her arms.
