"Are you crazy? What if the captain finds out?" Bai Rongjun felt her head throbbing from the shock of his news.
“This is the only way to make money right now, but the captain won’t give me leave. Rong Jun, this is the only solution I can think of.”
Zhou Han looked at his girlfriend earnestly, hoping she could help, but Bai Rongjun shook her head repeatedly.
"If you sneak out, I can help you keep it a secret. But if you need to take a few days off, how can I help you?"
"He's gone mad! He's gone completely insane!" Bai Rongjun thought Zhou Han had completely lost his mind; he was being far too reckless.
If it were really that easy to make money, why would anyone tell him the news?
"Yes, I can. If I don't rescue my dad, our future will be affected by him. Rong Jun, you don't want to stay in this place forever, do you? Please help me."
"I..." Bai Rongjun wanted to refuse, but Zhou Han had helped her a lot before, and their relationship was already intertwined.
"You must help me. They are not only my family, but also your family."
She had no choice but to agree, and the next morning, the educated youth at the settlement got up one after another.
Breakfast consisted of mixed grain porridge and steamed buns made a few days ago, and everyone blindly stuffed themselves into their stomachs.
Bai Rongjun was sipping her porridge when she suddenly frowned and looked around. "Where's Zhou Han?"
Everyone then realized that Zhou Han was not there, and they all shook their heads.
"I don't know. When I came out, he seemed to still be on the kang (a heated brick bed)."
"Those important people are busy." Wang He noticed that the two of them had rekindled their previous relationship these past few days, and their words were tinged with sarcasm.
Maybe that guy went out again last night. He's really lucky with women; he's got two fields to cultivate without worrying about exhaustion.
Bai Rongjun was a little anxious, "He's never been late before."
"Then I'll go take a look." Lin Haiping sighed. As the person in charge of the confidant point, he didn't get any benefits at all, but he was asked to do all these little things.
Everyone got up and put away their bedding, but Zhou Han was still lying on the kang (a heated brick bed), and he didn't respond when Lin Haiping called him several times.
Sensing something was wrong, I quickly went over and touched his forehead, finding it burning hot.
"Zhou Han, Zhou Han, wake up!"
"What's wrong?" Bai Rongjun put down her bowl as soon as Lin Haiping got up and followed him to the dormitory door. Hearing his anxious voice, she rushed in.
"Zhou Han?" Bai Rongjun's face turned pale with fright, and the others gathered around when they heard the commotion.
"What's wrong?"
"I seem to have a fever."
Zhou Han's face was flushed, his forehead was burning hot, and his eyes were tightly closed. No matter how he was called, he did not respond.
"What should I do? What will I do if something happens to him? Zhou Han, wake up!"
Bai Rongjun was afraid something would happen to him, so she went over and shook him a few times. He finally seemed to regain consciousness and responded in a daze. Before everyone could breathe a sigh of relief, he suddenly started foaming at the mouth again. This time everyone realized the seriousness of the situation.
As the person in charge of the educated youth settlement, Lin Haiping quickly made arrangements for everyone.
“You guys go and talk to the brigade leader and ask if the team can send him to the hospital. Bai Zhiqing, don’t cry. He’s probably having convulsions caused by a high fever. Let’s try to bring his temperature down first.”
Several people ran out to find the team leader, while the others remained standing there. Lin Haiping quickly told them to go to work, leaving him and Bai Rongjun behind.
"Then you should pay attention."
The work bell had already rung, and they hurried over. Just before they left, Zhou Han vomited again.
Lin Haiping and Bai Rongjun had just wiped away his vomit when the brigade leader rushed in.
"What happened?" If something happens to this perfectly healthy person in the village, how can he explain it to the educated youth office above?
"Captain, he was probably vomiting because of a high fever. Bai Zhiqing and I wiped his forehead with cool water."
"Waaaah, Captain, what should we do? His forehead is burning hot, he's already delirious from the fever. Zhou Han has never been this seriously ill before, was he too tired before?"
The brigade leader was driven crazy by her crying. He never expected that the first one to give in would be this strong young man, while the female educated youths hadn't even fallen ill yet.
However, he dared not neglect the patient since he was sick, and there was only one barefoot doctor in the village, who was not available.
"I'll go get some strong liquor to rub on his body. If it doesn't go down in time, we'll have to take him to the hospital."
The brigade leader brought over some liquor, and Lin Haiping used a cloth to wipe him down. He originally thought that Bai Zhiqing, the female comrade, would avoid him, but she stood there the whole time. However, since she was engaged, it was understandable.
Bai Rongjun kept a close eye on Zhou Han, who had his eyes tightly closed, afraid that the captain and the others would notice something was wrong. After a while, Lin Haiping reached out and checked his temperature.
"Captain, it seems the fever has subsided."
"That's good! Now that the fire has gone down, one person can stay here to watch over things."
Lin Haiping had already been delayed for a while and was about to leave when Zhou Han, who was getting better, started vomiting again.
"Why is the captain vomiting again? He started by foaming at the mouth, and he's vomited three times now. Could he be seriously ill?"
"Quickly, get ready to take him to the hospital."
If the fever can be brought down, that's fine, but if it can't be brought down, we can't afford to delay.
The brigade leader told them to prepare their things while he went to the village to call a tractor. Fortunately, spring plowing was almost over, and the tractors in the fields weren't busy.
The rumbling tractor carried the man straight to the county hospital, where the doctor examined him and prescribed an IV drip.
After he finished his IV drip, almost half the morning had passed. Seeing that there was no use in having so many people gathered around, the captain decided to have Lin Haiping stay and take care of Zhou Han.
