Chapter 125 The Person Has Disappeared

"Not here?" The kind young man repeated, a look of shock and confusion flashing across his face. Where else could the educated youth have gone if they weren't in the village?

He exchanged a glance with the two men, then looked nervously at the captain.

"What do you mean? He's not participating in labor production in your village. Where did he go?"

He came here to cooperate with the two comrades in their investigation, but he didn't expect the educated youth to be absent. He hoped something might have happened.

"He's sick. It seems like he has some kind of encephalitis or pneumonia. He's still in the hospital, and some other educated youth are taking care of him."

The young man breathed a sigh of relief; it turned out he had been hospitalized.

"Which hospital? Let's go see him now."

The captain didn't dare delay their business, so he quickly got into the jeep and drove them to the hospital.

“This educated youth, Zhou, was very hardworking. He was not feeling well, but he still insisted on working. We only found out when he developed a fever, so we sent him to the hospital.”

The brigade leader followed behind the three men, explaining anxiously that he was afraid they would think the village was mistreating the educated youth. He said that, in all honesty, although he hoped they could earn full work points every day, he had never forced them and had always let them do what they could.

Zhou Han completed all his work points himself and then helped his girlfriend make up the difference, but no one forced him to.

“We specially arranged for a tractor to bring him here, and we were even willing to pay his medical expenses in advance in case he didn’t have any money, but…”

The two men didn't say anything, but walked very fast, and the captain almost couldn't keep up.

“We arranged for someone to stay in that ward to take care of him.”

The captain glanced cautiously at their expressions, unsure of their attitude. Just as he reached the door, he rushed forward and opened the ward door.

“Someone is coming to see you, Zhou Zhiqing.”

The small ward had five beds, all of which were occupied, but none of them were the educated youth they were looking for. The three of them looked at the brigade leader with doubt.

Where are they?

The captain thought he had gone to the wrong ward. He remembered that Zhou Han had been assigned to the bed by the window that day, and now an old man was lying in that bed.

"Hello comrade, where is the young man in this hospital bed?" What happened? Where is he?

The old man in the hospital bed was a farmer from the countryside who had rarely been to a hospital in his life. When he saw the three men in military uniforms standing behind the brigade leader with such serious expressions, he quickly sat up and shook his head at them.

The captain asked him several questions, but the old man just kept shaking his head.

"Were you assigned to another room?"

The other people in the ward were also frightened by their aggressive arrival, and almost no one spoke. Only then did the person in the next bed react and cautiously asked a question.

"Was it the young woman who took care of the gay man? They left a few days ago."

The speaker was a woman in her forties who had undergone surgery in the hospital and had been there for a long time. She remembered the captain.

I also remember that young couple; they were strikingly good-looking and didn't look like people from the countryside at all.

"You were the one who brought him here that day, right? They packed up and left not long after you left, saying they didn't want to delay the work in the fields."

"What?" The captain gasped inwardly, then saw the three men's faces turn frosty. He could only hope that the man had made a mistake and that the hospital would arrange for Zhou Han and the others to move to other wards.

"I'll go ask the doctor."

Just then, a nurse came to check on the patients, and the team leader quickly pulled her aside.

"Comrade, is there a young man named Zhou Han in the hospital here? He has some kind of inflammation, and the doctor has prescribed him medicine for several days."

The nurse flipped through the forms in her hand and shook her head. "Zhou Han? They didn't go through with the admission process; they just left."

"How is this possible? He's here now, how could you let him go?" The captain was sweating profusely. What on earth had happened?

The nurse was very busy, so she shoved the form in front of the team leader.

"He's already gone, we can't force him to stay here, who knows where he went."

The nurse left after speaking, and the young man's eyes sharpened.

"Where did he go?"

"I don't know. He had a fever and was vomiting that day, so we brought him to the hospital. The doctor said he would have to stay in the hospital for a few days."

Yesterday, they sent someone back to tell us whether he had encephalitis or pneumonia and needed to be hospitalized.

The captain was so anxious that he became incoherent and hurriedly tried to explain to the three men.

"Comrade, what should we do now?"

The young man was there to cooperate with the investigation. He didn't know what they wanted from Zhou Han, and now that this had happened, he quickly asked them.

This person was under the management of their educated youth office, and he was also somewhat worried.

"Um, I might know where they are." A middle school girl in the middle bed cautiously raised her hand, and her family tried to hold her down.

"Where are they?" The captain was overjoyed and quickly went to them.

It turned out that the little girl was there that day too. She often came to take care of her grandmother. She knew that a handsome young man had come to the ward, and the girl next to him was also very beautiful. She was impressed by the two of them after only seeing them once.

While they were getting injections at the hospital, the young girl went home to cook. Just as she was carrying the food out the door, she saw the young couple in the alley.

The sick man who needed an IV drip showed no signs of illness on his face. He held tightly to the anxious woman as they passed by.

"I saw them enter the alley where we live, but I don't know which one exactly."

The girl glanced at the food and went to deliver it. The two men exchanged a look, asked the girl where she lived, and then left with the captain.

"You talk too much." Seeing the group of people leave, the little girl's family slapped her hand in an annoyed tone.
