Chapter 2: Is she still thinking about her young boyfriend?

Lu Yang held two metal lunchboxes in his hands, looking coldly at the mother and daughter who had finished packing and were about to leave.

Song Qing was also a little stunned. The last time the two met was on An An's 11th birthday.

He was transferred to the Northwest and I haven't heard from him since. It's been more than two years since I last saw him.

Actually, the two were never very close, living apart and he only taking a vacation every few years. When he was on vacation, she would send An'an back to Xin'an so that the father and daughter could reunite at the Lu family home.

Lu Yang is only 26 years old now, and he is far from having the imposing presence he had when he held a high position in his previous life.

Song Qing had already honed her courage by facing Lu Yang, who was in his thirties.

Now, facing him, who is clearly much younger, I feel not afraid at all, but rather calm because I am actually a few years older than him.

For example, even now, knowing that he is angry, she is not intimidated at all.

If the two of them really wanted to live together, they probably wouldn't be able to make it work with him always having such a sour face.

Thinking about his future military rank and salary, Song Qing felt that he might be able to give him a few more chances.

But if he keeps keeping a cold face, she won't serve him.

Lu Yang glanced coldly at the mother and daughter before staring intently at the letter in Song Qing's hand.

He didn't know why he knew she was planning to leave so early, yet he still got up early with a glimmer of hope and went to the cafeteria to get them breakfast.

Afraid that the breakfast would get cold, he stuffed the scalding hot metal lunchbox directly into his clothes and hurriedly ran over through the heavy snow.

The metal lunchbox he was holding was still warm, but his heart was as cold as the snow outside.

"You absolutely have to leave?"

Perhaps because his expression was too serious, An'an was frightened and quickly hid behind Song Qing, hugging her mother's leg and looking warily at her adoptive father.

Song Qing was a little troubled; she hoped that the father and daughter could cultivate their relationship properly.

Even if they can't make it work and still get divorced, their daughter still needs her father's love.

If the father and daughter have no feelings for each other, and Lu Yang remarries and has a stepmother, he will become a stepfather, and at that time he will be completely unreliable.

But his current seriousness has already nipped the father-daughter bond that had been building up over the past few days in the bud.

Song Qing quickly patted her daughter's head to comfort her.

Lu Yang noticed it too, and he suddenly felt like laughing.

He wrote back to ask if she would be willing to come and join the army. The letter took seven days to travel from Northeast China to Xin'an.

During those seven days, he was distracted and kept waiting for the letter to be sent back.

He knew she had a job in Xin'an, and the military would arrange jobs for military dependents, but it would take time to finalize the arrangements. Besides, there were many military dependents these days, and simply not enough positions available.

Lu Yang had always disdained using connections, but if she was willing to come, he was willing to ask his former superiors for help.

He's built up a network of connections over the years, so he can definitely arrange a suitable job for her.

And then there's An'an, whose daughter is already three years old, and he's only met her a few times.

In recent years, the country has been focusing on developing heavy industry in Northeast China. The environment here is much better than in Xin'an, and children can receive a better education here.

Most importantly, he wanted them to come.

But he also knew that leaving their familiar surroundings and abandoning everything to live in an unknown city was extremely unfair to them.

He could offer nothing but an empty promise.

He would be happy if they came, but he wouldn't mind if they didn't.

That's what they said, but that day he received a call from Xin'an saying they would come to join him.

He told him that the mother and daughter had packed their bags and boarded the train, and would arrive in Northeast China in a few days.

Lu Yang didn't know how to describe how happy he was the moment he hung up the phone.

During the days he waited for them to arrive, he ran around submitting reports and getting approvals. In order to get a few more days off to spend with them, he even promised his superiors to mentor new employees for them.

He's settled on a new apartment, and he's thinking that once he's tidied up and added some furniture, he can move in and finally have a home.

But all of this changed after Song Qing received a letter from an old classmate.

She said she was going to Ancheng, where her classmate had found her a new job.

Lu Yang also sobered up from the excitement of those days. He forgot that Song Qing didn't like him and that she originally had a boyfriend with whom she had a deep affection.

If it weren't for her father forcing her, she probably wouldn't have wanted to get married.

If you don't want to, then you don't want to. Why give him hope and then leave? If you had just said you didn't want to come, would he have bothered you? Now you're backing out at the last minute. What kind of person does Lu Yang take him for?

"You're really that unwilling to be with me?" Lu Yang gritted his teeth.

Is she still thinking about her ex-boyfriend?

It's no wonder he's so vicious. That Chen boy has been in the countryside for so many years, who knows if he has a new lover? Besides, their child is already three years old. Does she really want to divorce him?

Impossible. He can't get a divorce. He'd rather die than let those two lovers be together.

How could his daughter possibly call someone else "Dad"? Song Qing had better give up on that idea.

Song Qing sighed, knowing his anger wasn't without reason. She remembered how, in her previous life, when she was determined to leave, he had been angry for a long time.

Even for the first two years after she went to Ancheng, he didn't send any letters back.

If it weren't for the constant money being wired to her, she would have thought the two were a divorced couple just one step away from finalizing their divorce.

In truth, she was in the wrong. She had already gone all the way to Northeast China, but as soon as she got a job, she abandoned the person.

"I didn't agree."
