Chapter 312 Snowfall

"Mom is going to be busy for a while longer. They're having dinner here, so she told us to go eat first."

"Oh well"

Lu Yang picked up his daughter again, nodded to Fang Hui, and led them downstairs.

Wei Hui, who was standing to the side, suddenly frowned. Ever since Lu Ronghui came out, she had been deliberately looking in his direction.

Under normal circumstances, her gaze would definitely sweep over him, but the two did not make eye contact after she came out.

"Alright, stop watching. Your dad's probably starving at home. Let's hurry back."

Fang Hui felt okay after being rejected, thinking there would be plenty of opportunities to eat together in the future.

"Don't let Xiao Hui's quiet demeanor fool you; she was incredibly eloquent when she spoke to the customer just now. She's just as quick-witted as you, so you can't bully her."

She kept rambling on and on, while Wei Hui silently carried downstairs with the things his mother had brought back from other places, his brows furrowed the whole time, unable to figure it out.

Everything was fine just a short while ago, how did it change in just over an hour?

"I'm talking to you, are you deaf? You've really forgotten your mother now that you have a wife, you're completely useless to me."

Wei Hui stopped and looked at his mother seriously. "Mom, I have nothing to do with her now. Please don't say that anymore."

"...Is it okay now, or will it never be a problem in the future? Can you be a little more oblivious? Giving birth to you was such a misfortune."

Fang Hui complained a few times, but when she noticed that her son was still looking at her, she hesitated and nodded.

"Fine, then I won't say anything more. I don't want to interfere in your affairs. Do whatever you want, whatever."

After saying that, he turned and left, and Wei Hui could only follow him with his things.

During the meal, An'an sat next to her aunt, and Lu Ronghui rolled up her sleeves a little.

"Brother, sister-in-law wants us to go back first."

"Where's Mom?"

"Mom won't be home for a little while longer, let's wait for her at home."

It was getting cold, so the restaurant served a bowl of pepper soup. Lu Yang ordered one and served a bowl to each of them.

An'an stirred the tea a few times with a spoon, took a sip, and immediately frowned with a pained expression.

"...Spicy"

Lu Yang smiled and urged her to swallow. She could only frown and grit her teeth and swallow it, but she refused to touch the rest. Lu Yang took his daughter's bowl to his side and gave her some meat from the soup.

Lu Ronghui glanced at her brother, but Lu Yang didn't say anything about Wei Hui. Instead, he chatted with them about family matters.

"I'm going to the mountains tomorrow. An'an, you stay home with your mother and the others."

"I want to go too!"

"No, this time we're going to go very, very deep into the mountains. It's so cold, the children can't go up the mountain."

She puffed out her cheeks in protest, but no matter how many times she tried to coax Lu Yang, her father just wouldn't agree. In the end, she snorted twice and put on a stern face.

"What's wrong?"

Lu Yang served food to his younger sister and noticed that she was frowning and looked like she wanted to say something but couldn't, which he found strange.

"fine."

He had deliberately forgotten about what happened at the department store, but seeing his sister's strange expression, he suddenly remembered it.

He wanted to ask Xiaohui what she thought of Wei Hui, but he was afraid that his sister hadn't even thought of that, and that pointing it out would only make things worse.

Raising a girl is definitely different. Whether it's a younger sister or a daughter, Lu Yang's teeth started itching at the thought of his daughter falling for someone else in the future.

"Dad, that soup doesn't taste good, so you shouldn't drink it either."

An'an, noticing her father's expression, asked very sensibly, "It must be that the soup was too awful that made my father's expression change."

But it would be a waste of food if she didn't drink it, so she didn't want to. Her aunt liked to drink it, but she could only drink a little. Oh well, Dad should drink the rest.

After finishing their meal, Lu Yang led them towards the department store. He had just arranged with Xiao Wang to have him wait for him there.

"It seems to have gotten colder again."

As Lu Ronghui spoke, she pulled up her collar. An'an let out a "huh" and buried her face in her father's neck, but she wasn't actually cold at all.

Her warm little face brushed against mine, the tip of her nose feeling slightly cool.

Lu Yang slapped her on the bottom, and An An hugged her dad's neck and giggled.

When the car drove into the residential compound, it was already completely dark outside. Xiao Wang drove them directly to the gate.

"Thank you, Xiao Wang."

The car was warm, and An'an gasped as soon as she got out. She finally felt cold, so Lu Yang quickly picked her up, thanked Xiao Wang, and went inside.

The lights in the yard were on, and An'an stood there looking at the bare apple tree, on which hung various little trinkets woven by her aunt.

"Go inside quickly and we'll see tomorrow, it's freezing."

An'an still didn't move. Lu Yang wanted to come over and carry her inside, as he needed to heat the kang (a traditional heated bed) later, and she was oblivious to the temperature.

"Xiao Hui, drink some hot water before you go to sleep."

An'an blinked as she looked at the dark night sky in the distance, where dim yellow lights illuminated a small patch of sky.

"Dad, it's snowing!"

She stood there staring for a while, then suddenly exclaimed in surprise, "It's snowing!"

Lu Yang raised his hand, and sure enough, a small snowflake fell down. He caught it in his hand, and An An immediately grabbed it to look at it.

Lu Yang squatted down to show her, but his palm was empty.

"Huh? Where's Xuehua? I clearly received it, where did it go?"

Lu Ronghui also came out. She looked up at the night sky and asked, "Is it snowing?"

Lu Yang smiled and tapped An An's nose. "It's snowing. The snowflakes have melted. You'll see lots of them when you come out tomorrow."

Sure enough, a few more flakes drifted down after a while. Lu Yang went inside to heat the kang (a heated brick bed), but she refused to go in and just sat at the door looking outside.

"I wish Mom were here. I want to tell her it's snowing."

Lu Yang filled a thermos with hot water and put it in her arms. The thermos was a hospital IV bottle. After washing it, he put a cover on it and tucked it into the quilt so it would stay warm until midnight.

"Mom will be back soon."
